Thank you so much. I loved the way the two sides of this scene were done in the show by splitting them out into two episodes, but at the same time, my mind was craving to view them continuously, just for fun. But what a great concept, and what a great scene. Love this show. So well done.
At first I thought that meant to trick them, that they were not actually leaving nor they ever had the choice to, just a mind trick. It hits harder knowing it was her outer self coming back in, damn
Of course. Seen from the innys perspective its an infinite loop. Everytime she tries to open the door and get out, she comes back to the same place. Actually she succeded but has no memories of her outy coming back by her own. From the innys point of view, it all happens in an instant, just like when its time to go back home. They are going upstairs in the elevator and suddenly they are going down.
Dam this show was perfect. All that mystery was built up and answered within a good amount of time. Unlike other shows where the mystery DRAGS ON and by the time the answers come, you don't care anymore.
Now I get this scene. The first time I watched it, I didn’t understand it. The inny was fighting against the outy. The outy wanted to stay in lumon to see the process through but the inny saw what it was like in there and wanted out.
Exactly. Inny wants out, but Outy wants in, and has no clue how Inny feels. The thing that always rubs me the wrong way here is how Mr. Milchick is lying to Outy Helly. He's a great character (and actor), but I'm hoping we see his background developed more in Season 2. I suppose he has to lie to Outy here, because of who she really is and what Lumon is trying to accomplish in the outside world.
@@laeditor SPOILERS: How is he lying to Outie Helen? I get the feeling that Outie Helen knows exactly how awfull it is for the innie, with her being the daughter of the CEO and all, but she really doesen t care. Milchick is simply telling her the truth, that innie Helly is learning that she wants to be there, becayse she litterally can t go anywhere else.
SPOILERS: Thanks for the comment, but my interpretation of the scene is different than yours. When Inny Helly first comes through the door, Milchick says, "Your orientation's been so much fun". That's a lie. Up until that moment, Inny Helly has angrily refused to answer the interview questions, thrown a speaker at Mark's head, and demanded to leave. Not sure how that's "so much fun". Then, Milchick says, "...we help by bringing them here to the stairwell...". That's also a lie. Nobody brought Inny Helly there. She demanded to leave because she doesn't want to be there. Finally, Outy Helly looks at the door and asks, "Oh no, I'm trying to leave?", and Milchick replies, "No, no". Again, that's a lie. Inny Helly is trying to leave. An honest answer from Milchick would be something like, "Yes, your Inny is trying to leave, but that's normal for new severance employees".
@@laeditor I agree with your interpretation. SPOILERS: What's especially great from a writing point-of-view is that Milchick has already been shown to be duplicitous with the innies. But here he's being duplicitous with an outie too. And, because of this, his "It's amazing what you're doing" can be easily dismissed as him just blowing smoke up outie Helly's backside to get her to play along (even with the previous bit about a 'miracle') so you don't really click that he's showing genuine servility. Yes, by the end of the season, it's pretty clear that Helena knows about how innies are treated and doesn't care. She may even know at this stage - even before her innie tries to kill her(self). But Milchick is still lying to her here.
Yes, fantastic. It's not often I get excited about a show, but this one is the whole package...great acting (and casting), writing, directing, set design, cinematography, music...the whole kit and caboodle. I'm looking forward to season 2, and am really hoping they don't "Lost" it, if you know what I mean (plot points that were thrown out there and never developed). 🤞🤞
@@laeditor It's a while since I'd seen the show, but just hearing the tinkle of the piano playing that lilting tune brought it all back....that and Britt Lower😍.
I just started watching the show a few days ago, finished it now. Man I really can’t wait at all for season 2! I only have to wait a few months to January, and even that is too far- so I really feel for everyone who watched it closer to when it was first released
Of course. Seen from the innys perspective its an infinite loop. Everytime she tries to open the door and get out, she comes back to the same place. Actually she succeded but has no memories of her outy coming back by her own. From the innys point of view, it all happens in an instant, just like when its time to go back home. Agreed. Plus I think Helena acted a bit too much like Helly in this scene. I get they didn't want to spoil anything, but from the little we've seen of Helena, she's colder than Helly and obviously more authoritative. But that didn't come across here.
I didn't get it until I watched it the second time around. But I love how they show you thru only Helly R.s eyes. Then only from Helena's eyes. I hope they do more of that in season 2. The Innies days are only indicated by the closing and opening of the door at 5pm because they don't get to sleep.
When she says “Where am I?”, it can be assumed that this may be how she feels as an outie at times. I think, that putting it together, it may be possible that when she goes into the lift, she then appears at the end of her day, in the lift, and is able to leave through the car park. However, for the innie, they are able to leave through the stairwell, and this scene explains what happens when she does that. Alternatively, the innie is unable to leave through the elevator, as when she goes in, due to the outie seeing as though nothing is wrong, the innie proceeds to go through the elevator and work on an infinite loop. The outie being none the wiser, and the innie relying solely on the outie to escape means she will never leave, unless the outie decides to quit. Even in the case that the innie quit, the decision was put in the outies hands. This is a story about abuse of power. It is not by any means a fair or just system.
@@laeditor it's funny I hadn't realised we had seen her outie in the flesh already before we see her on the tape where she told Helly that an innie is not a person. I guess it didn't strike me because Helena just seemed as confused as Helly and it doesn't show yet how little she cares about her innie's fate
@@leila7254 yeah exactly. That's why I included the shots of Helena getting the implant...because from her perspective, she goes from the operating room straight to the stairwell, which confused her.
“When we heard you were coming here, it was like a miracle.”
Now knowing who she is, it makes sense.
Yep!
who is she?

👍. Actually that Milchick character (odd name) didn't have to even be there in the stairwell, as she wanted to go back in anyway.
I need to re-watch. I had completely forgotten about the exchange in the stairwell and having seen the whole show, it completely changes it.
Thanks for putting this together. Can’t wait for season two!

I feel like if it weren’t for the risk of spoiling the twist, Milchick would’ve called her Helena and not Helly when she was out in the stairwell.

Wait I hadn't realised, so this is Helena Eagan the heiress and not Helly R. the employee that's talking to Milchick each time in this scene
True. When she's outside of the door (or up the elevator), she's the heiress. So here, talking to Milchik, she's the heiress.
