The quantity of fire in a flame burning steadily appears to remain the same, the flame seems to be what we call a ‘thing.’ And yet the substance of it is continually changing. It is always passing away in smoke, and its place is always being taken by fresh matter from the fuel that feeds it. This is just what we want. If we regard the world as an ‘ever-living fire’ (fr. 20), we can understand how it is always becoming all things, while all things are always returning to it.”
I don't want to sound rude but the element that arises all others and of which the seperation of the others is an illusion is pulled from eastern philosophies and spiritual beliefs. The 5 elements, which often include water, fire, earth, and wind (though it can change from time period and location with others like wood), and "the void" which all things come from and go back to. I think you may be relating back to similar sounding philosophy because the entire concept of the show arises from these 5 elements which are present in the gung-fu styles teachings the various nations use, and these can be seen in various philisophical writings and martial arts teaching from China and Japan. The very fact that "energy bending" is what is called the bending before the avatar and can give and take away element bending, i.e. saying fire arises from this 5th element and not that it's the primordial basis of bending itself goes to show this.

One of my favourite little visual details is how the slow-mo shot of Aang firebending after facing the dragons is animated in a way that's almost identical to the scene from "The Deserter" in Book 1 where Aang accidentally burned Katara. That right there is perfect visual continuity
also it is such a full circle moment.. from seeing fire bending as the evil that destroyed his people(ep3 book 1) and using it to hurt someone he loves (ep16 book 1), to accepting that he is a fire bender (ep 19 book 2) and that the fire nation needs compassion and deserves redemption (eps 2, 3 and 6 book 3), to finally seeing fire bending as something pure that was actually corrupted (ep 13 book 3)
woah, that's such perfect storytelling... I love that I keep discovering new tidbits and having new realizations in every comments section of this playlist
There is nothing like the first time, but IMO this show is better with multiple viewings, so definitely watch it at least 3 times all the way through and then you'll be able to fully appreciate all the subtle humor and beauty of the writing. : )
Kilpta Vari, I disagree with your disagree lol ;) I was in my last years of high school when it originally aired. You be your bum I bought the DVDs and rewatched it (no commercials!) I don't have the dvds anymore so I rewatch the series (and Korra) every year now and have for a while, thanks to awesome reactors like these. I think it is beneficial to rewatch it. My countless ones let me remember what goes on in each episodes so much more than if I watched it only 1 time ever and it lets me appreciate it more. To each their own I guess lol
@@kilpta4746 Of course you can appreciate the story with a single viewing, but to fully catch all the jokes and more subtle moments, you need to watch it multiple times. Did you see last episode when Milena was talking about re-watching season 2 with her brother? When you already know the characters it allows you to pay more attention to the humor and story, which elevates the show to an even higher plane IMO.
So true what she said about how she's gonna watch it probably a 1000 times. For the past 13 years, I have watched this about twice every year and introduced it to many people. I have tried to follow it's lessons and values in real life ever since. Such an impactful show for those who are able to realize it.
Its my favorite episode. Idk why but I love those moments where they go back to the sources of bending. It feels like they have a more pure and rare kind of bending after this.
Yeah this really explains a lot of who Iroh is. He is literally the most lively character on the show and that sense of balance of all life explains so much.
i've been catching up to the avatar reactions for the past few days, and im finally caught up, this is such a wholesome reaction, everything u guys feel, it feels genuine and that is so good to watch and experience
Post Avatar depression is a thing. Korra is good too but the difference is, the main characters are not as adorable and as endearing as the Ang Gang. This show makes you love every single character I swear minus Zukos father of course
The first waterbender was the moon spirit, The original earthbenders are the badger moles, The original firebenders are the dragons, And original airbenders are the sky bisons.
CAUTION SPOILER - DON´T READ IF YOU HAVN´T WATCHED THE LEGEND OF KORRA I forgot about this part of the show explaining it that way. So what about the Lion Turtles in the Legend of Korra?
well that was the case until Korra came around and fucking destroyed all the lore and worldbuilding lmao. so yes you are correct but only if you ignore the existence of korra
Im loving the avatar series. But you need to make sure that when the final episode is over you let the credits play. The music is different and it makes the ending so much better.
And here we learn that the closing credits song is a sort of theme for fire ending, or Zuko. (the song the sun warriors played as the kids climbed the stairs to be judged). That song has been playing since episode 1.
Zuko's theme is the tsungi horn when he's being wise and good (also known as Iroh's theme) and the fire nation horns when he was bad. He also has the blue spirit theme. The one you're talking about is a good fire bending theme though! Reminds me of the agni kai music too
When Aang firebended for the first time in a long while with the sun warriors, its exactly the same scene when he firebended and hurt katara, when he smiles while firebending
@@joejames1794 its possible nick & avatar creators are back together & doing stuff. Its either animating the comics, new story or new chapters not on comics

a good thing about you guys having these videos is that even though you can only watch something for the first time once, the videos will always show how that first time experience was
Zukos smile at the camera when Aang tells him he's smart is honestly one of my favorite moments of the entire fucking show! It's so cute :D @Korra: In my opinion, as a whole, it was definitely not as perfect of a show as Avatar is. But Korra is a very different show compared to Avatar. Avatar does have tons of nuance, but the nuance is mostly in the characters, the world it establishes is still very simple. There's a war. There's a bad side and a good side. Everyone agrees that the Fire Nation must be stopped. I'm oversimplifying but it fits. It's a very romanticized story set in a world where things are more clear. The world Korra establishes builds on Avatar and develops the ideas from Avatar further. Questions like 'What happened to the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom after the war?' and 'How does society deal with the inherent second class citizenship of non-benders?' come up. The world of Korra is a much different, way more nuanced world where nothing is purely right or wrong anymore (except for the villain of season 2, which also happens to be the worst season of Korra, though even that villain makes some good points). I genuinely like Korra and almost all of its characters, even if it's not as good as Avatar. It's still very good.
My problem with Korra's nuanced subjects is their execution. Each season had a great sometimes complex set up but then ends in a simple and mostly unsatisfactory way.
It makes me so happy to see how much you guys love this show. There are so many good values that the show embraces, and it's such an encouragement in these dark times.
Thanks so much for sharing your reaction with us. In the same way that you both mentioned that you only get to see this series for the first time, once. Me and the rest of the others watching, get to relive what it was like seeing it for the first time with both of you! I saw Avatar when it came out 15 years ago, but the emotions and feelings I have towards this show never changed. Excited for you to close the book on this amazing series!
This was one of the episodes that, when I first watched it many years ago, I thought would be a cutesy training montage episode. It was that, and then the part with the firebending masters and the pillar of fire came up. I got goosebumps, ya'll. Think about this too, Lola and Milena. Zuko, from S1-present, has constantly been judged by everyone and been found lacking. Lacking in courage, lacking in love, lacking in training, lacking in family, everything. No one ever considered Zuko worthy of anything. The only one who ever truly loved him was his uncle, and Zuko put him into prison, so he probably feels extremely guilty and undeserving. Then Aang doesn't consider him lacking. Flawed, yes, but not lacking. There is a need for his skills. Aang accepts him into the Gaang. Even goes on a field trip with him, whole heartedly. Lastly, the last 2 original firebending masters in existence don't find Zuko lacking. They find him worthy. Worthy. Can you imagine how much that meant to Zuko, to be considered worthy? It brings tears to my eyes. Milena's face from 9:05-9:27 was and still is my reaction to the latter half of ATLA Season 3. Just... mouth open, in amazement, that this nuanced storytelling is a kids show from 2 decades ago.
Now that I notice them, I'd advise when watching the legend of Korra to not watch the version with subtitles. I don't know how important the subtitles are for you guys but they do spoil certain reveals in the series so keep that in mind
@@skush9146 it is good, is see no reason to not watch it. yeah, i agree it is not as good, but are you going to never watch anything else? because almost nothing is as good as this show.
8:49 , because they are both accomplished martial artists , remembering fighting positions is what they do , not to mention one is the avatar and the other is the prince of the fire nation, both received above average martial art training. ps: great reaction ❤️
Korra isn't that bad. I definitely agree with the fact that the creators were under different circumstances like you guys mentioned, but each season of Korra is great. They definitely could have taken each season and expanded each season of Korra into their own 2-3 seasons because of how fast the seasons came and went due to Nick studio's stupidity.
I think the main problem with Korra is inconsistency, due to those circumstances, but at its best I actually think it's even better than ATLA. At the same time, its lows are much lower than ATLA's.
For me, Korra is ok. I dont like the fact, that the people were messing so much backstory ... nearly the one with the most backstory is Korras Father (no spoilers). Also i dont like the "great happenings" that kinda happen in the Show. My favourite Seasonnof Korra is the first one (because it has the best antagonist ... relaying on the story) ;)
@@zeallust8542 Oh, I misswrote it ... it should be missing, not messing. For that, i did not research, who the writers were. But i think the point, that the characters lack backstories counts anyway, regardless who the writers were. Maybe its because of the series structure? That you have nearly 4 seperated storys. What do you think, am i completely off ?
@@jonathanhaaga703 If you meant missing, then I do agree. Lots of characters are just kinda, there. You get some like, mentions of their past, but not a lot. The characters that do have proper backstory are great, and so are their stories, but its not the majority. Thats true.
Lmao, thankfully the rewatch value on this show is through the roof! Nothing like your first watch but it’s a series you can watch as many times as you want and still enjoy every time.
I absolutely love watching your videos. I personally feel that this show is clearly one of the very best stories ever made! Thank you to the both of you for your reactions!!!❤️
The original will always be better, but Korra is awesome when people don’t try to compare the two, it has different goals, different themes, different writing, different age range, so I get why people don’t like it but yeah, people should at least give it a chance, the only portion that I actually think is bad is the second half of season 2. otherwise it’s pretty consistently good
@@thewhisper4269 even the second half of season 2 is still pretty alright. I wouldnt quite call it bad personally. Though it certainly could have been much better
Korra is actually really good, fans are just disappointed because they know it could have been amazing and possibly have matched or surpassed Aangs story if the creators were given an exact number of seasons they could make from the start. Each season finale of Korra feels like the end of the series, but then the next season reverses key character developments from the previous season so a story can be told. The end result left many people not being able to fully connect with Korra's character like they were with Aangs.
I think this is my favourite episode. Zuko learning to be humble, more like Aang, and really fast-tracking their friendship (given how few episodes are left to do so).

when Aang said he thought firebending was all about destruction it was thanks to Jeong Jeong who told Aang it was SOLELY about destruction... he's a good master but doesn't understand the meaning of his own power
Probably due to PTSD as a former soldier n the whole propaganda spoon fed to them by their rulers were responsible for his pessimistic n self deprecating ideals. Even if Jeong Jeong didn't tell him, Aang had numerous bad experiences with fire benders n only a few of them he met didn't resort to fry him at the spot the moment they realize who he was
Avatar studios was recently announced and its being lead by the original creators. So soon we all might be getting brand new amazing stories from the world of Avatar.
Awesome reaction! One bright side, from now on Zuko is going to be a reasonable part of every episode. Though judging by how invested you girls are, the after ATLA depression is going to be enormous... 😥
That's a hot firebending form, Chan. Careful, you could melt the hull of an Empire-class Fire Nation battleship, leaving thousands to DROWN at sea..... Because...it's so hot.
You guys are so fun to watch and your emotions are so exciting to experience with you haha! I remember watching this episode for the first time and I thought it was beautiful and I loved that the writers made Iroh lie to protect the last dragons. Great episode :)
Notice when they said that their ancestor will be responsible for zuko and Aang judgement. Zuko being descendants of sozin, azulan, and ozai it really put a lot of bad judgement into him. But with aang being there is like roku is there to represent his own grandson. If aang wasn’t there zuko would of been destroyed on the spot.
Theory i just connected... MINOR SPOILERS FOR KORRA AHEAD. When Zuko picks up the dragon egg in the gold casing and says it almost feels alive. Its because it is, its the child of the two masters.. And the dragon Zuko mounts in Korra.
...it's a great one I wish was true. It's better than what we're given honestly. there's no explanation for how zuko found his companion Druk. Unfortunately the theory can't ever be true because of this: "There is only one known dragon egg: the one laid by the dragon Aang and Kuzon encountered before the start of the Hundred Year War." - Dragon Days comic for Book 3
Korra is interesting. I loved it and there are parts I like more about it than the gaangs story. The massive new wave of streaming fans all love korra and there are a ton of older fans backtracking who initially hated the series because it was a different.
not that it matters in the slightest, but the word is "bawl" (unless you're saying that this episode makes you want to shoot some hoops, in which case game on) :)
The Sun Warriors have taken serious losses I imagine. They are right to scrutinize Zuko and Aang....since they've essentially been exiled from their own culture, albeit probably self-imposed exile. Who are they to know? Zuko has the power to ruin them all by simply spreading word of their existence, along with some of the last remaining dragons. "Why didn't they do something?" Something about an entire nation suddenly disagreeing with their entire way of life, probably, but who knows what the transition was from the Sun Warriors to present day Fire Royalty.

There’s no way this is a filler episode ... this is huge character development for Zuko as a person... and Zuko and Aang as a team.
Wow I never noticed that!!
YEAH!
woah, that's such perfect storytelling...
I disagree. You really don't need to feel obligated to watch it multiple times to be able to appreciate the story.
I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR THE SOUTHER RAIDERS
Kilpta Vari, I disagree with your disagree lol ;)
I was in my last years of high school when it originally aired. You be your bum I bought the DVDs and rewatched it (no commercials!)
I don't have the dvds anymore so I rewatch the series (and Korra) every year now and have for a while, thanks to awesome reactors like these.
@@mitsukitai2713 I don’t think it’s a bad thing to rewatch it, I just think that it’s not needed either.
"Fire in firebending come from the breath, not the muscle!" iroh said that to zuko in the book 1 episode 1, need 53 episodes until we realized 😂

Zukos smile at the camera when Aang tells him he's smart is honestly one of my favorite moments of the entire fucking show! It's so cute :D
@Korra: In my opinion, as a whole, it was definitely not as perfect of a show as Avatar is.
And then 2 secs later zuko realises...
Lol
My problem with Korra's nuanced subjects is their execution. Each season had a great sometimes complex set up but then ends in a simple and mostly unsatisfactory way.
It makes me so happy to see how much you guys love this show. There are so many good values that the show embraces, and it's such an encouragement in these dark times.

@@jonathanhaaga703 "the people" You know Korra was the same writers, right?
Thats true.

Korra is awesome too, just in a different way. You’ll love, just differently. Promise.
"It's a dragon egg! Zuko is Khaleesi!" 😂 I'm dead.
My favourite episode! It's so beautiful and funny, and I just love Aang and Zuko's relationship!
Lola is soo keen to what will happen next in every episode, it's awesome. What a great show, and great RUclips channel.

when Aang said he thought firebending was all about destruction it was thanks to Jeong Jeong who told Aang it was SOLELY about destruction... he's a good master but doesn't understand the meaning of his own power

Notice when they said that their ancestor will be responsible for zuko and Aang judgement. Zuko being descendants of sozin, azulan, and ozai it really put a lot of bad judgement into him.
Unfortunately the theory can't ever be true because of this:

True cause it’s just not good. It also actively denigrates ATLA through making Tenzien look bad.
