That wiring is older, but not original. Normally they need rewiring immediately. Dressmaker is an actual brand, not a store badge. It’s from a major manufacturer in Japan like Janome or Toyota (who makes even better sewing machines than cars).
All I know is that you NEVER, EVER use 3-in-1 oil on a sewing machine!! It turns to solid gunk and freezes up your machine. Singer makes specially mixed sewing machine oil for basic metal against metal moving parts and sewing machine grease to use on cams, gears and bearings. Evan Walmart sells this stuff. Don’t cheap out on the important stuff to keep your machine running! And when stored properly it lasts a loooong time - so it’s a good investment!!💕
I'm so happy I found your videos! I bought this machine today from a thrift store for $11.00 and am trying to figure it out, as well as clean it because it was a mess too. I plugged it in at the store and it ran immediately without a presser foot telling it to go so now I've got to figure out how to turn it off once it's plugged in. 😬
I agree. But love my old Singer due to the metal parts. Most light weight machines have plastic parts that wear out and are a pain to replace. Thanks for commenting.
I've got a machine very similar to yours and was anxiously waiting to see how you operate the zig zag feature. I can't for the life of me, figure how to use the two small thumbscrews to lock in the zigzag width. I can hold the large knob and it does it's thing but how on earth does it lock in a desired width? Neither of the screws seems to do anything. I opened up the top plate and those screws doesn't do anything. Can you or anyone else help me with this?
1. Turn the stitch width dial to the desired width. 2. While holding the stitch width dial in place at the desired setting, turn the set screws ( the two knobs on the front of the machine) clockwise until they are hand tight. This should set you up for zigzag stitching. 3. To return to straight stitching, simply turn the set screws counter clockwise until the stitch width dial releases. This is how I get the zigzag stitch to work on my dressmaker model. Hopefully it works this way on yours.

Wow, great deal. There is usually and on off button. Something could be pressing on the foot thingy that makes it run or there could be a short.
These are Great Machines. I love vintage, but you almost cant GIVE them away nowadays. Most are going for New out of Box, Light weight!

Wow,nice I was just looking at Goodwill .com for a vintage dressmaker machine😁
I bought one at a Goodwill in 2000 for 10 bucks. I donated it to a resale shop to thin my collection, as I had 16 sewing machines!
Awesome,great find
Use clear sewing machine oil, not 3 in 1, it can stain stuff yellow.
Shouldn’t there be two thread spool spindles on the top surface if the machine like other machines?
That’s a GREAT machine!
Erdei uma da minha vó como eu queria saber usar ela mas não tenho manual.

Hi I have dress maker machine to the problem is my fabric is not moved what should I do
Check to make sure the feed dog is raised. This is the metal “teeth” under the presser foot. That’s what moves the material.
