Indeed it is a sad day for people who remember Trini Lopez. His partner/drummer Mickey Jones was a great musician as well as Trini. I knew Mickey personally and he also was a great man. Mickey taught me how to play drums when I was about 16 years old, by listening to Trini's albums. Its been a real treat to be aware of both Trini and Mickey in this lifetime. They are both sadly missed. Rest in peace my musician friend.

The song was not written by either Ritchie Valens or Trini Lopez, La Bamba is a traditional Mexican folk song written long ago by an unknown author & was a dance from the Mexican colonial period.
