- “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” 2 Peter 3:10-12
The great Day of which we read here is coming. It is as sure as the law of gravity and as reliable as night turning to day. Christ is returning to receive us unto Himself. He will take the Throne of His father David and will rule over the House of Jacob forever, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end. He will dissolve that which now is and will make all things new. Seeing then that these things shall soon come to pass, what manner of persons ought we to be?
This is Part Seven of our series, What Manner of Persons Ought Ye To Be?
Be ye RECONCILED TO GOD - καταλλάσσω , katallasso - to change mutually, to compound a difference, also in that change to join back together that which has been separated
2 Corinthians 5:14-21, Job 22:21-23, Matthew 6:33, John 14:6, 17:3, Corinthians 4:6
Be ye THANKFUL - εὐχάριστος , eucharistos - feeling of being well favoured, grateful
Colossians 3:15-17, Colossians 1:9-18, Philippians 4:6-7
Be Ye GLAD - שישו , suso - bright, cheerful, rejoice
Isaiah 44:23, 65:18, Psalms 100:1-5, Revelation 21:1-6
What manner of persons ought we to be? Let us be a happy people, a joyous people, a people reconciled unto God and delighting in Him and in His goodness!
These are indeed dark and evil days in which we live, but we know in Whom we have believed, and we know that He is able - more than able - to see us through the storm and land us safely on the shore of that Heavenly Kingdom.
Press on! Heaven’s joys await!
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25
