What your seeing is brittle plastic break down of the Lhr21 anti spinning shroud. Didn't follow dielectric lubrication which is normal maintenance referenced in the directions. A replacement is $15. Item # 651.245. Or google the Kevin Brown Washer Mod.
I have a copy of rupes that you got, on battery ! Modified to fit the Parkside 8a battery and also have problems with heat ! Great tool 15mm throw but the gearbox and the backing plate gets very very hot, especially the gear box gets hot and have to use gloves because if I touched with my hands I will bun myself ! It’s the perfect copy that you got over there but on battery! Nice power Dah!
Great video, very intuitive. I’ve burned up backing plates and a whole lot of pads with the Mark II, I just figured it was because it had more power than my Mark I...it got so bad, I parked the Mark II unless I was dealing with a really bad paint. Glad to see this, I’ll give it a try...the good news, if I don’t like it, a new boot can’t cost too much, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy the savings in pads and backing plates. Thanks again!
A lot of guys had problems with that grey backing plate in those tools. Mostly It's from the plate losing it's grip on the pads. This is because the grey plate is designed to be easier to remove pads. The hooks are thinner allowing for easier release. When operators used heavy pressure (causing excessive heat) on them, they melted the hooks, which killed their effectiveness. After burning through a rubber shroud, and trying the washer mod, I backed off on the pressure and went back to the stock settings. No heat at all.
Wow, it looks so much like the Horbor frate . HOW much did it cost and you still have to modify the tool I would ask that tool copy for some kind of discount. At the Snap-on coast of tools why trick out a tool if you pay so much. Over all great content
Nice hack. I'm disappointed with my LHR21 II , had it for just over a year and has already failed. I suspect the speed controller module is faulty. I tested the armature and field. They seem to be fine. I've taken apart the machine a few times. The bearing on the armature was also giving a bit of trouble, for a machine that is used by professionals I'm really disappointed it didn't last with home use. This is the first and last time I buy another rupes buffer. Just my 2c
Hi Very good explanation. I have had this problem since i bought 15 mark 2. That dust boot touches backing plate when doing cutting phase. Mad overheating, i have to cool it down with air. I already destroyed one backing plate and several pads. I will try this and comment was this help for me.
@@MrBod4life My friend changed the new bearing set for my Rupes, and in the same time he made a custom washer between backing plate / rupes.I have only done 1 car since the fix. It was a finishing pad & compound only, so not much heat anyway. I will update this when I have the next project with cutting.
I have mk3 15 and 75 and although very good machines they are not worth the extra money in my opinion. I’ve had issues with both and rupes never replied! I think their marketing is very good and not so much their machines

awesome insight thanks
So are you saying that the blue colored backing plate is the better choice vs the grey backing plate? Heat issues less with the blue ones?
@@MrBod4life - No, the grey is fine if the operator isn't putting a bunch of pressure on the machine.

@@aor3200 yes please do!
I just burned my backing plate on a Mille, any link where I can buy it?
I Also my replaced brushes to my LHR75 and she lost power.
If it’s that simple why didn’t they notice that during 100s of hours of testing.
