    The contrast between Isiah and Larry in regards to Magic is huge. It took decades for Magic to forgive Isiah and also is one of the many reasons Isiah wasn't part of the Dream Team. Magic wasn't going to support him, either did Bird. But Larry, his RIVAL, not only publicly ( and privately) supported him and remained his friend to this day says ALOT on who Larry Bird is. Many reactors say this should have ended racism. I think it is more than that.

    Magic and Larry are my favourite players, they was so amazing.
    Ps: it's absurde to see Larry phisical's condition in the last years and to see how incredible his trash talking still was even in those years (the story told by Jamal Masburn with Rodney Rogers in the dreamteam practice was litterally unbelevieble, Larry is a true legend).

    Our generation was tougher. I'm 58, started working in my dads shop in the fourth grade. Worked in auto body shops most of my life. Fractured my elbow on Friday, back to work on Monday. Had surgery taking my appendix out on Thursday, back to work on Monday with staples in my side. Different mentality in today's generation.

    You raised the question of the difference between HIV and AIDS. My understanding is that while HIV is the name of the virus itself, as the infection with that virus started showing symptoms then the appearance of any of those symptoms was referred to as AIDS. The HIV attack on the immune system resulted in any of a variety of possible immunological deficiency-related illnesses (Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome).

    • @sarahsloot2290
      @sarahsloot2290 6 месяцев назад +1

      You’re spot on. AIDS is a manifestation of a bunch of infections (it’s non specific) but you only get torn up in this way when your immune system isn’t doing its job.
      I’m happy they could take care of Magic back then, really great that he can still light up rooms with that smile.

      HIV/Aids destroyed my people back in the late 70s through early 90s. I’m a hemophiliac(my blood doesn’t clot) and if you went to get a blood transfusion you could get dirty blood. Around half of all hemophiliacs got HIV, Hep C, or both. I was lucky and only get Hep C. Also it wasn’t just us Hemophiliacs, it affected people with a variety of bleeding disorders. They tried to say it was just a gay man’s disease or a drug users disease, but the government knew the whole time. They knew the blood was dirty and just didn’t care until upper middle class white people started getting it and then the pressure came to clean it all up and act right. Raegan and Bush were straight up evil when it came to HIV/Aids.

    Excellent reaction video! I've enjoyed watching with you. These two are warriors. Magic took care of himself. But there wasn't anything back then that could help Larry's back. You can see the fiberglass brace in some of the clips, and it definitely slowed him down some. I love these two.

    And that's the crux of the argument against Load Managment. You said it right. I saved up to see my favourite player in a once of a lifetime game, and he's sitting out. AND still getting paid. While I know this isn't LeBron's idea, but it is one of the argument against him. That and the player injury list. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact when they do play, it seems they aren't trying. Not everyone but alot. And here's Larry, playing like he's trying for a spot on the team for 13 seasons. And the '80's and '90's are crap basketball?!?!? JJ Reddick and the rest of those losers who cannot be bothered to do their research and due diligence and flags everyone as plumbers and firemen and not great shooters and all the other crap.
    On a happy note, Cooper FINALLY got his spot in the Hall of Fame!!! Well overdue as one of the few people who did a really good attempt to stop Bird...and was one of the few who did stop him! He used to take a VCR and tapes of Bird's games on vacation to watch them and learn Bird's every move. I'm a Bird fan, but give credit where due!

    In another video, they talked about how Larry would send him notes and things to keep him up. Like, " get a job" etc. But during that time, there was much ignorance concerning HIV. We all thought he was going to die. I personally had not seen anyone beat it. Truly sad. This young boy received it from a blood transfusion and the horror his family went thru. I believe his name was Ryan White.

    The players are property, expensive property, but property. The owners don't want their property getting damaged if they don't need them on the court.
    How much would players be making without their fans?

    People now don't realize what HIV or AIDS meant back then. For one, it was thought to be strictly from homosexual relations or drug needles, then there was the death sentence as well because of how new it was. That's why Magic was asking "how or why me" at the time.

    The fact that Magic was able to avoid the fate of the vast majority of HIV CASES is to this day, pretty incredible to me. My guess is that 1) it was caught in the very early stages & therefore easier to combat, 2) Magic’s high profile made finding a cure more urgent & 3) Magic (along with Princess Diana & Elizabeth Taylor) being the “ambassador” for HIV/AIDS education & outreach really helped the public be more compassionate towards HIV/AIDS victims. As others mentioned in the comments, in those days HIV/AIDS was pretty much a death sentence & the primary cause of transmission was gay sex. That’s why Magic was shocked that he caught it because he’d only been with women.
    Which is why he was so mad at Isiah, bcuz the implication was that Magic had secretly been with men…

    Why are you interrupting the very tender, sensitive moments of Magic and Arsenio just so that you can mock them? I guess you don't understand that back in the day it was assumed, no actually believed, that someone could only get AIDS through homosexual sex. That's the explanation as to why they would ask "how can it happen to me?" AIDS was also incurable at the time and anyone who started showing those symptoms would die through a process of physical deterioration and associated illnesses. And that was unstoppable. However, I also remember that sometimes people would have HIV infections where the disease would essentially be dormant for a decade or so before AIDS symptoms began to appear. I'm not sure that was known at the time, but that would probably explain Magic's condition.
