He was held captive by a nobody named "Jailer Zerus", and though freed, died as a result of the torture. Paladin players would later go on to take up the Ashbringer for the duration of the expansion.

It's a good thing that the classic world is back so people can play the exile of Tirion. That quest chain was awesome, and the one I most loved when starting the base game of WoW.
