    First we had to find the unicorn of bikes now the unicorn of tyres! Where does it stop. Ride what suits you then put it on the tyres that suit your conditions. Some like the D606 I reckon they were shit I've got shinko 804/805 on now I like them.I wanted 605 but the local guy suggested 606 Dunlop as he had them in stock. Good clip glad your enjoying the crf really like your content thanks

      Cheers John 👍 The "Unicorn" bike doesn't exist yet, but maybe a Husky 701 🤔 Glad you like the Shinko's, bloody good long wearing honest tyres. I'll get them again if the 605's don't last 5000 kays minimum. Cheers mate 😎

    Merry Xmas Phil, I remember as a 90s mountain biker the hype around tyres - the advertising and eternal search for light weight and grip. Black, round and cheap was my motto and my memory is filled with all day adventures on whatever I could find. Cliff Young Specials would be my tyre of choice

      Merry Xmas to you too William! Cliff Young - what a legend! Mate, all we have to be is realistic about what we do, the rest just follows. Enjoy your Christmas buddy 🍻😎👍

    Have 606 front and rear… expensive, very good on dirt, super stable, can easily do 60mph casual on a loose dirt road. On roads it’s not the best. The stock irc for me was a little too unstable off the pavement for me but really good on pavement… if I could hit the rewind button I would do what you did and just keep the irc till at least the rear wore out a bunch and then go 605 (front and rear). Lesson learned ($440 for 606 front and back installed and balanced here in USA… insane). But ask me how things are when I’m grinning on the dirt roads and not sketching out… is it worth the money? Not really… next time 605 and I figure out how to mount and balance myself or figure out a cheaper way.
    Edit… I’m not that concerned about wear and tear as where I live it’s hard to ride 7+ mo a year… and then when it’s nice to ride it’s mostly slow/shorter distances in the mountains.

      Hi James. Wow, tires are pricy over there! The 605's are $139 here. and the 606 $170. And the 605's are liable to last longer - up to 8000 kays (5000 miles) so represent pretty good value. The Shinko 805 will last around 8000 miles! Great 50-50 adventure tyre. Cheers mate😎👍

      Yeah $300 ish after tax for 2 tire and another 140 (I got a deal) for remove old tires and remount and balance the 606…. Crazy expensive. The roads we have here the front IRC just wanders… it’s diatramatious earth with larger round marbles on top… the rear IRC is ok. The 606 is pretty much perfect for this type of road. The paved roads here are very rough so the 606 grab a bit and so while they are fine they kind of grip too much kind of thing on paved. For background I’ve ridden dirt bikes for 20+ years and can ride pretty hard off-road but don’t anymore since I’m there to take in nature not “ride hard man” anymore.

    Mate I couldn’t agree more, what people think they will use the tyres for and what they actually do are two different things a lot of the time. I love the d606 but like yourself and many they don’t last, motoz tractionator adventure for me was the one👌the old saying horses for courses still rings true. Good advice Phil👍

    • @MidCoastAdventures
      @MidCoastAdventures  Год назад +1

      Ah thanks Curt! 😎👍 The 606 are great tyres, and I'd imagine near perfect for your style for riding. Motoz are tough as nails, loads of grip - as you'd know. Great adv tyre for more serious riders like yourself. For old folks like me (🤣) 605 seems a good compromise. Merry Christmas mate, enjoy your night, and hope you have plenty of sweet rides penned in for 2024 😎👍🍻

    Merry Christmas Phil, i have run a few sets of 605 front and rear on my wr250r and get around 8k on them doing similar rides to you. I have also ran a few sets of the 606 and only get around 4k on them.

    • @MidCoastAdventures
      @MidCoastAdventures  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks Kevin! 😎👍 Agood to hear the mileage from the 605 👍 Sort of figured 5000 to 7000 k, so good you got 8 k. Yeah, 606 seem a softer compound to me. Cheers mate 🍻🎄

    I have a D606 on the rear and still the IRC on front . I actually think the stock IRC tyres a fantastic “ I don’t know what some people complain about,and I ride my 300 Rally very aggressively “.

    All compromise Phil...D605R gave me around 5k, F was a bit iffy in soft sand. Sticking with MT21 F & R. Nothing special but do everything I want and well priced 👍🍺

      I also run the MT21’s front and rear. Installed rim locks and run them at 12 psi. They work well everywhere and are an absolute blast on gravel and dirt roads.

    Cheers …good info , just bought a rally and finding it brilliant , the stock front tyre felt terrible at first , but seems to have settled after 200kms or so , at 97kg finding the suspension ok …how do you find the always glowing front indicators ?
    Do you know anyway of overriding them ?
    It seems odd surely some dozy drivers will see an indicator lit on the side nearest and see it as someone turning ,regardless if it’s blinking ?

    • @MidCoastAdventures
      @MidCoastAdventures  11 месяцев назад

      The more you ride the bike, the more you'll get comfortable with it 👍 Took me a while after coming of a bigger, more powerful machine. I felt the stock tyres to be adequate - not great but do the job. Enjoy the bike, and avoid the city traffic -if you can. Cheers buddy 😎👍

    Same combo I'm running. Ŵorks well but I've only got 2k on the 605 and doubt it'll last another 500km. Got a Shinko next to try. Same bike, same usage pattern.

    • @MidCoastAdventures
      @MidCoastAdventures  11 месяцев назад +1

      It's interesting the different tyre wear hey. Maybe some batches had harder compound rubber, I don't know. I do know the Shinko 805's were terrific on my little BMW on and off road.
