250+ innings pitched for 6 straight seasons. One of those seasons, he pitched 285. Younger fans would think that's ridiculous. But even for that age, Fernando was one of baseball's true iron men. Well deserved for a true dodger great.

Thanks for sharing. Fernando's outings keep México paralized in the 80's, even people doesn't interested in Baseball was captivated by him. There was a magic in the air. Everyone saying something about his games, the Wind-up, the screwball, even his good bat appareances. Fernando made mexicans mostly Dodgers Fans, even today. Muchos éxitos para Fernando, mexicano ejemplar 🇲🇽✔️

A comment mentioned that Fernando was a .500 career pitcher. 173-153 is not .500 And for comparison Nolan Ryan was 324-292 and clearly pitched more games. Let's take a upcoming player. Yu Darvish is 103-82 and there's that same 20 to 30 game spread he'll probably keep the rest of his career like the others. All of these pitchers ERA's are in the 3's. You have to remember, there are only so many Clayton Kershaws 207-91 in the big leagues. And to the teams, Strikeouts and ERA matter more than W/L in the long run. Teams will keep a pitcher hovering around .500 either way as long as that ERA is low. The overall want from a pitcher has always been to 'keep us in the game' and with his low ERA, #34 did just that. Fernando brought the clearly tangible Rookie of the Year, Cy Young Award, a 13-7 record for the strike shortend season, sellouts and yet still brought an intangible to that 81' Dodger team. Remember that most of that 81' team are Dodger immortals and/or Hall of Famers. Fernando gave 100% and clearly to this day, earned their respect. Plus, the Dodgers had not won a world series in 16 years so the City was ready for some 'Mania'. BTW career .200 hitter 10HR 26Dbls 84 RBI's. Batted .368 as a pinch hitter, played outfield and 1st base when called to. Those were stats I did'nt know. Fernando's intensity was seen in his quiet concentration on the mound, not that edge of crazy intensity pitcher's so often have.

It was a great ceremony and class thing for the Dodgers to do. The only person missing from the ceremony is Babo Castillo who taught Fernando the screwball. Congratulations Fernando it is well deserved. Gracias.

In 88 Mets with Strawberry and many others beat Dodgers 11 out of 12 regular season games but lost to Dodgers in 7. Look at us last year 111 wins and get bounced in 1st round by a team we called little brother after beating them in all but 4 regular season games

Never overrated!!! Poor performances in the playoffs yes...as a dodger fan I can admit that we should have more rings given the talent we have had...but maybe we should ask the astros for one back.
