  • This week we get a chance to explore the Marquesas Island called Hiva Oa. Most of the locals on the island speak French so it's pretty easy for us Canadians to get by. We don't have a lot of time to spend here as we need to keep on going to American Samoa where we will do our next big provisioning run on our way across the Pacific Ocean. We try and squeeze everything into one day and film as much of the island as possible. There are some amazing tiki sculptures which end up taking up quite a bit of our time as we want to be able to see every one of them. We even get a chance to fly the drone later for some spectacular scenery. Before the day ends we hop in the shower just like the locals and finally get a freshwater rinse after all of that time at sea!

    Very nice and helpful. The drone video needs improvement, but this is the first one I see from Hiva Oa, so kudos to you, and good luck with the next drones - I love drone videos! I am looking for a chance to visit Hiva Oa, the island with my name! I do not have a boat and am not much familiar with its maintenance, but I am wondering why people clean up the outside lower part of the boat and do you wax it afterward, maybe you can shed some light on that :). Also, it would be interesting to hear your description of the taste of local food and fruits - if you try them.

    It would have been nice to hear a bit of commentary about the great French post-impressionist, Paul Gaugin. It was likewise, the island where he died.

    I'm not sure why it is so satisfying to watch boats being cleaned below the water line. Anyway get those extra fishing hooks ready small boats just might be coming up to say hello, but this is whay they will trade for. : ) peace old clothes to

    Very interesting about the museum there. Too bad that it is so expensive. I am always amazed at how so many of the roads are paved with concrete! Must have been done many years back and they look to be in good condition. Don't mind me, I worked in the asphalt paving industry for over 40 years and I have a habit of looking down at the surface a lot! Too bad you didn't get picked up and given rides. Made for some long walks to get to town but having yummy foods there as a reward made it worth the effort. The drone shots were good but quite dark. Safe journeys kids.

      @DaleOnolack  5 лет назад

      Thanks Edward, we also were quite disappointed with the drone shots but unfortunately we only had one day to fly it up, so the shots we got were what we were left with. One of the days Captain Kevin got offered a ride but other than that we just walked. Couldn't imagine paving in that heat.... thank goodness you weren't there in the summer working, you would melt!!!

    I find it interesting the museum won't allow photos or video, perhaps they are afraid people won't visit, or it's some traditional belief in offending Gods. which doesn't make much sense since I don't think they had cameras back then. The way I see it's just missed publicity for their museum. By the way your audio on my end anyway needs a little improving, it sounds distant and the background music is barely audible. (Which sometimes is a good thing. Most background music is usually way to loud). Cheers Guys!

    • @DaleOnolack
      @DaleOnolack  5 лет назад

      We didn't get it either but we wanted to respect them. Sorry we got a new microphone and we thought it would improve our videos but sometimes it doesn't work. Our background music does suck but we don't have copyrights to good music LOL
