For picks, I also like the Cat Tongue picks. The grip is a little finer so doesn't affect the "feel" of the pick if that makes sense.

Helpful thank you it was a aha moment when i realized i was rushing tje up strum. And that i already do it haha.. my only issue is that my down strums fell smooth no jerkyness in the pick but the upstrum feels like its tryna yank the pick out my hand.. so i tense up to keep it from getting oulled out my grip but that tenses my wrist and forearm.. little lost on this

Hi Lauren, you are the best teacher for learning guitar. I have gone through 50 different channel for guitar tutorial but you the best among all. The way you explain is easy to understand for beginners and its really encouraging. It's just been few (6) months I have started learning guitar and after learning from you I can play open chords and play my favorite songs. But I still struggle with strumming pattern specially when the tempo of the song is slow. Now I've stated with fingerpicking style and it seems more difficult than stumming but probably it needs more practice. All your videos are so so helpful. Just wanted to thank you for the effort you put in each video. Will really appreciate if you could do more videos on barre chords, when to start and how to practice it. Specially for the people with small hands. Again, thank you so much. ✌ take care.

I carved out a circle a little bigger than a quarter out of elk antler, thinned it down to about 1/8" and with a rotary tool (I use a Foredom, which is like a Dremel on steroids without the uncontrolled aggression because of the foot actuated rheostat) on both sides carved a curve in the thickness about 1/4" from the edge all around with a 1/2" wood shaping ball, carved a nickel sized depression (pretty much) in the center deep enough to put a 3/8" hole in the center with the same tool, polished the outside edge but not the inside so there's a rough texture for my finger and thumb to get a gentle grip. It's solid enough to pick without the annoying click and it doesn't matter which direction I'm holding it because it's the same all around. It just doesn't fall out of my fingers or feel like I need to adjust it mid-strum. The picking edge is approximately the same (I just compared the two) as a dunlop 0.46 mm. And, like the acoustic guitar I just finished rebuilding with new stainless frets, new elk antler bridge and saddle and a tailpiece (so the belly bulge won't come back), tuned up with new Martin medium strings... I just need to learn how to use them!
I have two questions for you:
    1) do you think I'd make more progress if I just stuck with one of my guitars? (as opposed to jumping back and forth between all five)
    2) do you know "Lonesome Town"?
Thanks for all the lessons, really enjoy them.

My problem with strumming is that the pick moves between my fingers and I find the tighter I hold the pick, the harder I tend to strum....I therefore try and use a pick that has some sort of "grip" on it. Thank you for sharing and tutoring. Blessings from Kruger Park, South Africa.

Another good one. I struggle with fluid up strums. Can you elaborate on how tightly you are holding the pick and the angle at which it strikes the strings, please? Are you holding it perpendicular (90 degrees) to the strings or slightly angled? And then during the strum is the pick pretty flat or do you angle the tip down to help it slip over the strings rather than getting caught on them?
