  • Nagarjuna's poetic presentation of the fundamental teachings of the Great Vehicle, or Mahayana, is remarkable for its concise style and memorable imagery, making it one of the most widely quoted sources in other commentaries on the Mahayana path. The great Indian Buddhist master Nagarjuna (first-second century C.E.) wrote his celebrated poem "Letter to a Friend" as a gift of advice to a South Indian king, and it has since become a monument in the Indian shastra tradition.

So many suttas cramped in this letter. It feels like a summary of the Buddha Dharma, written for us, his friends :)

Great Teacher Acharya Nagarjuna, my home town hardly 20 miles from his Buddhist monastery in present day Nalgonda district in Telangana state, India. My family living there since centuries. When I read his works some time ago, I felt as if I am rereading the text again after a long gap.

The artwork is signed by someone named ‘Premachandra’ in Sinhala, the main language in my home country, Sri Lanka. Just noticed it and thought I’ll leave a note here.

could you please recommend any good book interpreting Nagarjuna's philosphy? I am not ready to read serious books. I would like to start with reading any simple good book.

i think that there has to be a connection between christianity and buddhism. Maybe some the greeks that settled in the east and in central Asia became culturally assimilated and brought these ideas to greece, which eventually became the inspiration for christianity. the insistence on obedience, guilt, shame, constant incessant threats of hellish torment, promises of a vague reward in heaven, this is christianity for indians !
i became curious about buddhism after deconverting from christianity, thinking that maybe they have something unique, and to my surprise i found more or less the same thing in buddhism.
