That’s really pretty, Izzy. I’m with you on the shoulder seams; however, you know that only sewists would notice, so enjoy! As much as I love the sleeves on this pattern, I just worry the bodice is too loose fitting for me. Cute on you, though! 😊 -Deborah
I enjoyed hearing your review of this pattern. I have never tried a Pattern Emporium pattern. I do like the sleeves. I was going to make a button up shirt. Now, I may have to look at other blouse patterns. ❤
Thank you Cynthia! I make my daughter Pattern Emporium patterns a lot because they fit her pretty well. Prior to this Be Mine blouse, I had not been able to fit them to my shape at all. I think the fabric would be stunning in a button up but I don’t yet have a pattern for those that I really love and didn’t want to ‘waste’ the fabric. 💞
Izzy, beautiful blouse! We all have personal preference about fit, but really, this looks like it fits you well, and you look so pretty in it. I learn so much by listening to you. Thank you!!
I too bought the pattern. I lowered the bust dart one inch, and went down in the shoulders. I agree with you that the shoulder sits poorly. That being said, it’s now my favourite top pattern
It’s a really cute pattern isn’t it? Sounds like you and I need very similar adjustments. I’ll definitely go down a size at the shoulders and probably waist and hips too as it’s very roomy everywhere. I think once I have the fit nailed, this will become one of my favourites too! 💞
This was the month I was actually quite glad I didn't receive the fabric as I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it but you did the most PERFECT top! That piece will be so useful and I love the fact that as it is quite sheer you can see the facings. It fits you fine in my eyes 😂. I'm with you on necklines and necklaces!! It's a great top for office wear 😉🤣. Good job as always Izzy ❤x❤
I like your new top very much! I agree with you that I want my shoulder seams ON my shoulders unless they are obviously dropped shoulders. And even then, I tend to stay away from dropped shoulder styles. I bet you will wear this top a lot - a good basic color is a wardrobe workhorse.
Thank you Debbie! I’m also not crazy about dropped shoulder styles. I do own a sweater that has dropped shoulders and a boat neck and I love it. But maybe it’s the neckline I love and not the shoulders? 😂
A beautiful blouse and a very helpful review of the pattern. I nearly did the same with my white fabric but went for a long sleeve Patina instead. I've made a toile of the Be Mine and dropped the dart but didn't alter the shoulder width but will do it now as it does fall off the shoulder.
I’m so glad it was helpful! Oh a Patina in that gorgeous fabric must be stunning. I considered doing a button up blouse with it, but in the end, I went with the Be Mine because I don’t yet have a button up pattern I absolutely love and really wanted to love the garment I made. I really want to try the Vernon by Cashmerette. That’s on my list for this Fall. 💞
Thank you Lynn! I really like it and once I fix the fit issues, I think it’s going to be one I use over and over again. I can change up the sleeves and neckline to make it look a little different each time. 💞
Izzy, what a beautiful fabric and it looks great as the Be Mine top. I’m so glad you made this up and gave us a review. Now I know what to look for as I make mine. It’s so pretty on you! Have a wonderful day! ❤
I think your Be Mine Top is beautiful! I did make a muslin first. I measured a size 12 with the FBA2 and it was huge. I made the muslin from a rayon challis and was careful to stay stitch everything to avoid stretching. In my revised fit I used a rayon twill and I went down to an 8 at the neck and shoulders, and a 10 with the FBA 3 for the rest, I also shortened the bust dart 1/2”. I typically have to raise the bust dart on many patterns, this one I did not. It fits perfectly now. Yes, it is designed to be slightly off shoulder. I carefully looked at the finished measurements to determine if I would have enough room at the hip when going to a 10 with the FBA 3. It is 1” smaller at the hip (than the 12 FBA2) and that would give me 5” of positive ease which is perfect. It is one of my all time favorites now! Even received a special compliment from hubby! I of course have another in my plans from a rayon challis.
Thank you Donna! Ok so it sounds like my plan to go down a size and use the FBA 3 once I lower the darts should work well? Most of the patterns I’ve made didn’t need adjustments for the darts so this will be a first for me. 💞
@@dizzyquiltsandsews Hopefully that’s the case. Check the finished measurements to make sure though. Since I printed the 8 and 10 I might use the size 8 FBA 3 instead of the 10 next time. But use the 10 in the side seams. I’m still considering that change. I know what you mean about the neckline and jewelry ☺️. I might make a change to that as well. All in all I really love the uniqueness of this pattern.
What a lovely top, the fabric is really nice. I did initially think it would be great as a lining to a light weight jacket but you have done a wonderful job on the top. Them sweeties are very common here in the UK, my favourite is the Love Hearts; they have some really funny and cute messages on them.
Thank you so much! It would have made a beautiful lining, but because it’s a cotton, it’s not slippery at all so putting the sleeves of the jacket on might be challenging. I loved the sweet treats!! 💞
Hello, Izzy! Wow, your blouse is just beautiful!! That fabric looked so great in that pattern, so trendy! I understand what you mean about the semi-sheer nature but I think you’d be in the height of fashion if you wore it as is 😂 Thanks so much for sharing with us, I love these videos! Happy Sewing❤~Tiffany
Hello Izzy. You've made a beautiful top out of a beautiful fabric. Drop shoulders aren't my favourite feature even if they are obviously deliberate. I checked the shoulder point to shoulder point measurement on the pattern and it was only a little wider than my body measurement, so made a 1cm narrow shoulder adjustment (my most commonly made adjustment) and now it's just right. That said, I did also check the amount of ease in the pattern and decided I wanted less and went down one size. Thankfully I don’t need to worry about FBAs though, more likely SBAs! I made a linen version with the elastic waist - it fits well with a good amount of ease and is so comfortable to wear. Like you, I'd also like to try it in a drapey viscose version now.
That top looks so comfortable. Do you make a muslin for everything you sew? I find that fitting a pattern to my measurements is so hard. When I took a fitting class a while back, we pinned the pattern together after sizing and actually tried it on to check the fit. The pattern rips so easily that you have to be really careful when doing that but it did work to get a good fit. Anyway, Happy Sewing!!
Hi Deb. When I make a muslin for wovens, I trace the pattern off onto Pellon 810 Tru-Grid. It’s sewable. I can easily baste it together to try it on before cutting my fabric, mark changes, and refit. Success!
Hi Deb! I don’t make muslins for every single new pattern I make. But if it’ll be the first time I make a pattern by the company, then I do. I also like to make muslins if I’m not sure of the style on me. And I like to use fabric for my muslins because that’ll give me a much better idea of the overall look and feel of the garment rather than trying tissue fitting. I just need to replenish my stash of muslin fabric now 😂
A very pretty blouse and it's so much fun to see you open the box and then a few seconds later, see the finished results - wow, you really sew quickly 😂! Yeah, guess it took a little longer, but it is instant gratification for the viewer, however. I'm with you on the shoulder seams that are "neither fish nor fowl" because now that I know a little more about fitting I'm starting to want a shoulder seam that is on the shoulder, not a little ways down unless it is pretty far down, and even those "real" dropped shoulders are starting to look a little sloppy to me, or maybe too beginner sewer (yeah, which I am, in truth - just don't want to look like it). The fabric is beautiful but I see what you mean about the transparency - wonder if a cotton batiste lining would work for something like that? Just seems like a lot of work! Anyway, now you have another pattern to make many times after getting a beautiful result the first time - good news!
Thank you so much! So funny how the more we learn, the more we notice things like shoulder seams and bust darts, etc. The shoulder seams being off my shoulders a little bit never would have bothered me with RTW tops but now that I know more about proper fit, they annoy me like nobody’s business! 😂 A lining would work, but I like the idea of just wearing a cami or tank underneath it. I could really have fun with the colours and prints! 💞
I totally agree about the ‘drop’ shoulder. I too posted in the Facebook group and asked the same question. Thankfully I didn’t cut straight into my Think Pink fabric because my top looks too big. Wasn’t the box wonderful? ♥️
The box was really, really good!! I really should have read some of the Pattern Emporium reviews - so many people say they run large. Anyhow, if I wear a tank under it, it'll just look like a very trendy "oversize" top I think LOL 💞
Blouse looks great. I have bought the pattern and agree with you about the shoulders. Would prefer it to be on the shoulder to really showcase the sleeves. Yours does not look frumpy at all on you and you always do a VERY good job!! Lynne
Thanks for the review on this pattern. It does look lovely on you. I think I will pass n this pattern as I am only 4’10” tall and think it wouldn’t be attractive on me. I am planning to make the LN Aria next. Ugh winter is coming and need long sleeves. Barb from Buffalo.
Hi Barb! Thank you so much. I like the Aria a lot but I have to be very careful with the kind of fabric I used because I find that cottons or structured fabric makes the shirt look like a tent on me (big bust and all). But I made an Aria tunic in a beautiful rayon a few months ago and I absolutely loved it. It’s getting cold here in Montreal too… in the low 50s today and cloudy. 😩
Big help! (When I call 📞 you on the phone and when I watch!). This will be the fabric I give myself permission not to sew up right away. I bought the pattern but have not printed it yet. I am on the fence about dying it.
Hi - yes, it’s definitely a bit big so I’ll be going down a size (at least) on my next version. I’m not going to bother fixing this one (because I would be very afraid to damage this incredibly beautiful fabric). I think if I wear a cami or tank underneath, the “oversize” feel is going to look intentional. At least, I think so! 🤞
That’s really pretty, Izzy. I’m with you on the shoulder seams; however, you know that only sewists would notice, so enjoy! As much as I love the sleeves on this pattern, I just worry the bodice is too loose fitting for me. Cute on you, though! 😊 -Deborah
Thank you Deborah! You’re probably right - only sewists would notice. 💞
Lovely blouse on you and looks very elegant . The shape really suits you and a lovely cami under heath would work perfectly . 💞💞
Oh thank you so much! 💞
So gorgeous, Izzy! Excellent choice! 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you! 🤗
Some really useful tips - thanks Izzy. The fabric and finished result look great on you and not the least bit frumpy! 😄
Awww thank you so much! 💞
Your new top looks sublime in this fabric and you look super gorgeous in it. Great review.
Thank you so much Marion! 💞
Very pretty blouse! Love the sleeves ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊 Aren’t those sleeves gorgeous?! 💞

Oh thank you so much! You’re absolutely right about fit. It’s a very personal thing isn’t it? 💞
I love the top and fabric. Also, I agree that a cami would be needed if I wore the top out anywhere. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for visiting and commenting! 💞

Thank you Carole! Yes, this will be super fun for the office. Isn’t it annoying when your necklace disappears behind your top’s neckline? 😂 xx 💞
You look so pretty, Izzy. Very nice job. ❤

Hi Zelda! Were you dictating that comment? 😂 “Dragging” behind your husband?
@dizzyquiltsandsews Lolololol. Yes. I'm going to leave that comment since it was so funny! He is very well after being "dragged!" ha ha ha.

Can you remedy this version with shoulder darts?
