Ray, congratulations ‼️. I have just spent 10 days with my husband after open heart surgery for an aneurysm. I can’t say enough about what the CCU nurses do. He was 2 days 1 on 1 and then 8 days with the step down. The nurses saved his life. Thank you for all you do❤️
Since my husband retired, he’s often in the room when you are on. He comments on all your knitting and today when he heard about Ray’s new job, he said, “wow, that’s huge!” You are definitely his favorite knitting show!
It's all about Kevin and Ray----I only watch a handful of knitting podcasts and yours is one I look out for so I won't miss it. Thanks for your contribution to knitting and good will.
Congratulations, Ray!!! That is a huge milestone for nursing. You will be fabulous. Watch out for the bureaucracy at the top. People are numbers, and the numbers people have never worked on the front lines. Your easy manner and smile will be a welcome respite for the staff. Kevin, your dyeing has gone next level. Y'all are the greatest.
Congratulations Ray! Awesome promotion. Very similar to my own nursing journey. You will love it, and will make a difference to patient care through a new managerial perspective. Enjoy. 👍
Congratulations Ray! I am a Director of Nursing also. Welcome to the club. I still wear scrubs everyday so I don’t get so far removed from the bedside team. You do you…and advocate for your team.
Congrats, Ray! We are all very proud of your accomplishments in the nursing field and your rise to director of nursing. You should be very proud of yourself.
I believe that wearing scrubs would be the most powerful statement you could make, letting ALL the health pros know that you are a NURSE in your heart and that is your "vision statement" ---- it shows REAL RESPECT for those you are serving as director. Best of luck everyone in the building will be fortunate to have you.
Kevin's blanket and marled hat are gorgeous! Congratulations, Ray, on your new job: if you can't wear scrubs to it, I hope you get to wear your knits :). If you're going to rip out your sleeves anyway, since the brown stripe in the sleeve looks longer than the brown stripe in the sweater, you might try to lose a few inches of the solid brown and see what happens if you graft. (Or if run waste yarn through both sets of live stitches as a temporary connect.) You might also be able to pick up stitches just under the first colorwork, knit up to them, and then graft after the brown on top of the big colorwork section without having to touch the armhole. One thing I always do when knitting cuff-up sleeves is to start with a provisional cast-on just above the cuff, knit up and attach the sleeve to the body, and then block the sweater. Then I know how much cuff I need to knit, whether straight-down or folded over. The ribbing in the cuff makes it unlikely for anyone to see that the cuff is knitted in the opposite direction.
Congratulations on your new job Ray! Fantastic and I’m sure well earned😊 Here’s a potential solution to the sleeves on your sweater Ray - snip the sleeve in the brown section above the 3 whites segments above the cuff. Pick up the sts. Work back down towards the cuff (decreasing as you’d like) and perhaps only work one white section, then work the cuff. This should allow you to significantly shorten the sleeve length.
Yes, I wear my knits at home all the time. Yoga pants and a sweater is my at home uniform! 😄 depending on the weather/temperature it might be long or short sleeve, wool or cotton/linen. Wearing them makes me happy! 😊
Hi guys, lovely podcast as always, beautiful work and love the jackets. Congratulations Ray on your new job. In reply to Kevin’s question about our handmade wearables I definitely wear my sweaters during fall and winter. I keep a couple to wear on special occasions such as going out for a meal etc. have a fantastic week ❤❤❤
I was having a rough day health wise but I broke out in a huge smile when your podcast showed up. I love the way you enable me to knit read buy and watch more. Best of luck with the new job.
Congrats Ray on the new job! You can absolutely cut the sleeve, pick up stitches and re knit them in the other direction. It’s a bit cumbersome picking up the stitches but it can be done. I made a cardigan for my daughter with same issue and this was how I repaired it.
Congratulations on your new job Ray! I know there will definitely be some adjustments to managing a staff that size. I do wear my knits around the house. I have a few sweaters that I think of as dressy so I save those for parties, events, and other similar wears. My more casual sweaters get worn around the house while I knit, watch TV, and so on. I don't wear them while cleaning or anything but they keep me warm around the house for sure.
Congratulations Ray! You put in the effort going to school and working at the same time. Enjoying the podcast and always look forward to see what you both are making. Good luck on your trunk show.
What a fun podcast. Thanks for your humoristic mood , i love your complicity ! Always a pleasure spend this moment with you guys ! Ray congrats on your new job and for your sleeve, i would cut, redo et gartered 😊.
Congratulations Ray on your new job. You will be an amazing DON. I’m so excited for you. 🎉❤ Kevin, Yes I wear my sweaters at home. I’m also a nurse so I rarely get a chance to wear anything other than scrubs ,I definitely wear my sweaters whenever I can. Don’t be precious with your knits, you make them to wear them, so wear them and enjoy.
Great episode! Congratulations Ray, well done and deserved. Wishing you much success in your new position. Kevin, I can only imagine your face as the table collapsed and everything slide to the floor. Well done keeping it together. Wishing you both success with your upcoming trunk show. It is exciting to see your journeys as you both progress in your chosen fields and all you do. Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
Congratulations Ray!! Such a huge accomplishment!! I’m sure the new place will be lucky to have you. You seem to have such a great rapport with all of your colleagues.
Hi, guys. I missed you this morning. I was knitting sleeve #1 of my Druid’s Grove yarn “neck down knitted jacket”. Making progress, only 3” to go until a 1x1 ribbed cuff. I’m planning to start the other sleeve tomorrow. I’m excited. This is my 5th cardigan with this pattern and along with this one I have kept 2 more for myself. I’m glad you went to Seattle and I’m sad that I missed the event. I used to hang out at Park Place Market with my daughter. Great times! Good night…💤💤💤
Ray~ Congratulations! They're so lucky to have you. I think you'd be amazing to work with. I think on your sleeve- I'd either trim the cuff off (insert a safety line where you want to stop but then either knit backwards or knit up again, grafting them together, or treat it like a sock blank, and pick up the stitches from both areas and fill it in with amount you like. I hope that makes sense. Kevin, I'm a sweatshirt person too but I do love my knits.. So I wear them whenever I feel like it. Love the stitch markers. Hugs, Kimberly
CONGRATULATIONS Ray! You have worked so hard the last few years to get this promotion, WELL DONE! See you when we see you, no pressure, enjoy yourselves. 🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
Congrats Ray!! Nice your coworkers invited you to your party, thoughtful how they did that. Try the commute for awhile. I used to drive 15 minutes to train station and then took an hours train ride into work, then a 15 minute walk. It was hard at first. Got used to it, cross stitched a lot on the train ride. Okay, back to watching. So glad we have a basement and large laundry room. I do all of my fabric and floss dyeing for cross stitch there. I’ve had one too many spills.
Ray, congratulations! I am 40+ years as a nurse. Still work 2 12 hr nights at a pretty easy gig. I have not enjoyed admin so just stick to patient care, which I stilll love.
Congratulations Ray on your awesome promotion! Kevin - I definitely wear my sweater around the house in winter months. I intentionally knit some sweatshirt type sweaters for this very reason. Thanks for sharing your makes with us!
I am so happy for you Ray! You will be an awesome DON! Being the boss of so many peeps is daunting, but I am sure you will do great! Good idea to take some time between jobs. Love the sweaters guys. They look so comfy.
Great episode as always guys. Congratulations Ray on your new job. That’s amazing. I work in a hospital too and know how stressful it can be. So good luck in your new role. I testknit the Chianti Cardi and it’s a great pattern. Thank you for showing it on this episode. 🍷
Congratulations Ray! Such great news about your job! 😊 ...and Kevin, I also work from home (bag and stitch marker maker) and tend to wear my knits indoors as it can get very cold (I'm in rural UK) I also wear wristers as they keep my hands warm while I work!
Congrats on the new position Ray! Exciting when your efforts come to fruition for something good. Wishing you and Kevin all the best as you make the transition to sonething new.
Congratulations 🎊 Ray on your new position! Hats off to nurses. I'm a little prejudice, my daughter is a RN. Kevin, I'm retired so not out in the work force. I too just wear "comfy" clothing at home (actually would not want to be seen in public wearing them lol). I do not and would not wear my hand knit sweaters. That's why now almost all my knitting projects are for friends and family. I'm 77, don't need anything for myself, maybe a knitted blanket. Of course, I wear ALL my socks, at my age my feet are always cold, even in the summer time lol. As always, nice to see your charming personalities! Stay well! ❤😊
Congratulations Ray. Well done🎉 I think a move will be a great opportunity for you Kevin to grow your business. A new adventure! I wish for you both the very best. ❤
Congrats Ray on your role! I’m glad you both came on today I’m stuck inside because of the sickness (the one that closes the world 4 years ago). It sucks. I’ve got my knitting to keep me busy since my husband can’t be in the same room. Also I’ve got premium and it’s the best thing ever to me especially on my phone.
Every time a pleasure to watch you both. Gongrats on the new Position Ray🎉 Answer for Kevins Question, i dont turn my heat on in the wintertime, so i wear my sweaters inside and i love it.
Wonderful new job and advancement!!! Well done and lots of classes and extra work you have done to get the new job. The ? gambier sweater/ jacket is gorgeous. If you use it as a jacket, you might have a shirt or light sweater under it, and larger sleeves might allow the under layer to fit better.
Great show as usual! I am currently in LA visiting my son and went to The Knitting Tree LA! Annette gave you big props for blowing up the chickens! Our fiber world is so crazy. Annette and my husband were elementary school classmates at St. Ambrose in Bridgeport which we didn’t discover until we got chatting. Just nuts. Happy knitting and congrats on the job Ray!
Congratulations, Ray! Re: Homewear. I wear long-sleeve linen and cotton sweaters at home (e.g., Erika Knight's Comfort sweater). My major requirement for a home garment is being machine-washable, and it looks like linen and cotton hold up.
Kevin, Y es, I wear certain woolen sweaters at home. Every day. Frequently also in the summer as the a/c can get cold. I have a Boxy (Jodi Locatelli), that I have worn to death out of Jaggerspun. I have a second on the needles now. Sweaters, ponchos, cowls.
Kevin, yes, I do wear my knitted sweaters at home. I work from home 4 days a week and we don't keep the house too warm so my sweaters and shawls get worn a lot. I kinda rarely wear sweaters and cardigans that are not wool. They're too comfy. I wear woolen knits at home during Summer too. They're simply lighter and have shorter sleeves and/or lace.
Ray, congrats on your new job! I’m glad you are considering moving - commuting that long each day is taxing, it takes more energy than you realize. Yes, I’m speaking from experience. Kevin, good job on handling the table fail crisis so well! Perseverance 👍🏼
So true! We'll have to see what it feels like to commute for a bit but I think you are right. We'll keep our options open when looking for our next home. 🥰
Hi Ray. On your gambier you can tailor the sleeves by turning them inside out. Sewing from the underarm to the cuff and then cutting out the excess fabric. Like a steek. Since it’s wool and mohair it should be fine. You can even needle felt the part you cut.
My heart sank when I heard about your table collapse. I used to run a fiber animal rescue farm/yarn shop where I did processing and dyeing. Something like that would have really messed up my day too. I'm glad you were able to turn it round.
Congrats on the new job Ray. Wishing you all the best in your new endeavor. ❤❤❤ Be the leader you wish you had when you were in nursing and you can’t go wrong. ❤❤❤❤
Congratulations on your new position, Ray! I am a retired nurse( best job ever) who gets to knit all the time now. Yipee! You'll be a wonderful boss although you might miss bedside nursing a bit. My daughter is also an RN so I take care of my grandaughter, also the best job ever. I look forward to seeing you both every fortnight! I'm still hoping you all will come to knit city Calgary so I could meet you in person. I live in Montana and have a group that are planning to make it up to Calgary year after next!
Congratulations Ray on your new job. Kevin for crocheting a chain they normally suggest using a bigger needle for your chain if you are a tight crocheter and then go down to the recommended size.
RAY!!!! You’ll be a great nursing director. You are so calm - that’s important in your role. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Thank you 😊
Ray, congratulations ‼️. I have just spent 10 days with my husband after open heart surgery for an aneurysm. I can’t say enough about what the CCU nurses do. He was 2 days 1 on 1 and then 8 days with the step down. The nurses saved his life. Thank you for all you do❤️
Thank you Carole! We hope your husband is doing well.

Kevin, your dyeing has gone next level. Y'all are the greatest.
Thank you Julie!
Ray - treat the sleeve like it’s fabric and sew ( by hand or by machine ) inside to make the sleeves slimmer - it will work!!!!
I second that. I’ve done this before and it works very well. I finished the cut “fabric” with a crochet border.
That was my thought, also. you could also adjust the length in the same way if it is done in the right place.
That’s what I was thinking as well.
Thank you for the tip Trish.
I’ve done it too with great success.
Congratulations Ray! Awesome promotion. Very similar to my own nursing journey. You will love it, and will make a difference to patient care through a new managerial perspective. Enjoy. 👍
Thank you, really looking forward to the new role.
Congratulations Ray! I am a Director of Nursing also. Welcome to the club. I still wear scrubs everyday so I don’t get so far removed from the bedside team. You do you…and advocate for your team.
wearing scrubs is a powerful statement RESPECT
Thank you! Really hoping to wear scrubs at least 3 days a week.
RUclips Premium is the way to go. I’ve had it for years. No ads
Me too! The best, I forgot all about the ads, lol!
Best $10 I spend by far!!!!!!
We signed up for it and will not be looking back.
Fantastic news Ray! I am so happy for you! A well deserved promotion.
Thank you Teresa!
Congratulations, Ray! So excited for you and your new opportunity!! I know you’ll be great!

Ray is going to try to figure out have to bring the underarm, that seems to be the issue.
Great episode showing us more of your awesome knitting talents! Congratulations to Ray on his promotion! That's a big deal and well deserved I'm sure.
Thank you 😊
Congratulations on your new job Ray! Fantastic and I’m sure well earned😊

I hope that makes sense. Kevin, I'm a sweatshirt person too but I do love my knits.. So I wear them whenever I feel like it. Love the stitch markers. Hugs, Kimberly

Love this!! You probably save a lot of money on your heating bill 🤣
Congratulations to Ray on the new career move! Good luck to Kevin on the Skein trunk show. So sorry I can’t get there to participate!
Thank you! Agreed about the jacket, it might fit better with a shirt underneath.
Fabulous news Ray. All your hard work has laid off. How lucky for all your team to have you. Kevin you must be so proud ⭐️⭐️
Or even paid off 😂🙈
Aww thank you so much 😊
Oh no Kevin at least it was fixable and cleanable. Congratulations Ray on you new job. Dunkin is in Minnesota too. Have a great knitty day.

I was in the ER after a bunch of breakthrough seizures recently and one of my nurses was literally amazing and I wish you could’ve met her, Ray!
Aww I’m so sorry to hear that you ended up in the hospital! But so glad one of the nurses made that impression on you. It’s so heartwarming to hear ❤️
Wow Ray Director of Nursing! That’s amazing! Congratulations 🎉 They are lucky to have you

So glad to hear about the new base!
It's sooooo soft and squishy 🤩

Kevin, good job on handling the table fail crisis so well! Perseverance 👍🏼
So true! We'll have to see what it feels like to commute for a bit but I think you are right. We'll keep our options open when looking for our next home. 🥰
Congratulations Ray! Amazing Opportunity! So excited for you!
Thank you so much 😊
That’s fantastic Ray!! Congratulations!! 👏👏👏👏 You will be great!!! ❤️
Thanks so much!!🥰
Hi Ray. On your gambier you can tailor the sleeves by turning them inside out. Sewing from the underarm to the cuff and then cutting out the excess fabric. Like a steek. Since it’s wool and mohair it should be fine. You can even needle felt the part you cut.
Thank you! This is probably what I will do 🥰
I am home all the time too and I wear sweaters all the time, especially love my cardigans. I need to knit more of them.
Yes for sure!! Cardigans are definitely an awesome staple to wear around the house. Easy on and easy off 😊
My heart sank when I heard about your table collapse. I used to run a fiber animal rescue farm/yarn shop where I did processing and dyeing. Something like that would have really messed up my day too. I'm glad you were able to turn it round.
Definitely was a shock but so glad I was able to get back on track! haha
Ray congrats on your new job. Sending the best vibes for it to be a great chapter in your career. Thanks to both for a nice episode.
Thank you! Love the good vibes 🥰
Amazing news!!! Congratulations 🍾🎉
Thank you!!
Congrats on the new job Ray. Wishing you all the best in your new endeavor. ❤❤❤ Be the leader you wish you had when you were in nursing and you can’t go wrong. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
I don't wear sweats or leggings except for exercise. I wear jeans and my hand-knit sweaters. I love wearing my sweaters.
We would really love to make Knit City Calgary happen, hopefully one day.
Yahoo!! It’s time for Kevin and Ray! Can’t wait to see your Fall plans!!!!
Same Here. ❤️❤️🏳️🌈
We are ready for the cooler weather 😊
Congratulations I wish you the very best .
Thank you so much!
Congratulations Ray on your new job. Kevin for crocheting a chain they normally suggest using a bigger needle for your chain if you are a tight crocheter and then go down to the recommended size.
Thanks so much 😁
Thank you 😊
