My maiden name is Musgrave. I am a descendent of Mathew Musgrave 1541, Edmond Musgrave 1575 and James John Musgrave 1608. James is shown married in Edenhall to Isabel. It would be fascinating to know my ancestors held this cup.

I've been told of this cup before, a long while back when I was little and living in Europe. I've never seen it in color, only drawings of it but it really is beautiful as a stand alone. I want to see it in person some day.

Gabriel Musgrave It's in the Victoria and Albert Museum, and it's beautiful. The legend is curious, inasmuch that it was supposedly found by the butler of Eden Hall, surrounded by fairies from which he relieved the article. The curse of the little folk states that:
'If the cup should break or fall,
'Farewell the luck of Eden Hall'
In actual fact, the beaker is probably Middle Eastern and nothing to do with the supernatural.
Believe what you will, it is still a gorgeous piece of glasswork. Do see it!

Mr. sOup, you are the quintessential story teller! Do you have any info re: where Edenhall was rebuilt here in the US? Thanks!

The Musgraves you say? And a tradition, even ritual surrounding a treasure? Interesting.
Do you think there is any chance this partly inspired Conan Doyle's "The Musgrave Ritual"?
