Hey John, I noticef that there are few latin amreican myths in your list so how about looking at the messeg up origins form la llorona (the weeping woman)? It is one of my hometowns most popular horror stories told to young children. Maybe there is not a real origin since it has been passed on by mouth for so long, but I would love to see a video about a latin american myth

I notice a theme of fathers/brothers being sexually attracted to the daughter/sister and doing something horrible to her for revenge. It kind of worries me that was a trope.

Possibly a trope in the sense women were typically considered to be at fault for such things (regardless of where the fault actually lay), and stories from a time period (especially fables) often espouse the virtues and vices of that period.
It has been a "trope" for centuries. Even the Greek had a lot of stories/myths were this was a thing.
@@SunshyneA you're probably right that was more common. It is well known that there used to be a lot of intermarriage in royal families in a lot of different cultures all over the world. Usually not directly a daughter but cousins and sisters definitely happend.

In regards to Little Red Riding Hood, the term "sluttish" referred to someone who was bad at cleaning--such as a maid who was bad at her job. For example "Your house is so dirty, you have a sluttish maid." The implication being that the maid only had the job because she was sleeping with her employer. It is a very old use for the term. I would look it up in the OED. As far as the story is concerned, the wolf might have simply been saying that Little Red was didn't clean up the house well enough?
Actually, the term "slut" initially referred to a woman with poor hygiene habits. The early uses of the term had nothing to do with sexual promiscuity.
But why would the cat say this as she's eating her Grandmother. 😂
@@HunterSlayer2727 I haven't the slightest idea. Honestly, it only referred to an unkempt woman for the first 50-100 years of it being a word. By the year 1450 it was either used to describe a kitchen maid or a promiscuous woman, so if that version of Red Riding Hood was written after 1450, it probably meant "slut" in the same way we use it today.
It's also quite possible that the term we think was used...wasn't. English spelling has only been standardised for a couple of centuries, and prior to that you've got a very mutable mix of spellings as well as regional terms to contend with. Going by the context though, I'd suspect Red might have tucked into her meal with 'unseemly' enthusiasm, thus behaving like a slut (but for food rather than sex)

Fun story, relating to Goldilocks: when I was in elementary school, my class had a field trip to a real courthouse. When we entered one of the courtrooms, they had us pretend to be a judge, jury, etc.. I was the judge (I got to wear the black robe, sit in the judge's seat & play with the mallet), the case was about Goldilocks having been arrested for breaking into the bear's house. It was really fun.

I've heard a version of the princess and the pea where the prince was very very stupid. It started off just like the others. The king and queen thought nobody would be good enough for their son so they rejected every girl who came. Until one stormy night a princess was lost in the rain and they rescued her. They were close to giving up so they tried the matress-pea thing. They told the prince to lay one matress down, then put a pea on it and lay 10 mattresses on top of that one. The princess woke up the next day with extreme back pain. She said there was a large lump under the matress. The queen was overjoyed. But they couldn't find the prince anywhere. They checked the whole castle and finally found him in the princesses room. Underneath 10 mattresses holding the pea. So in the end they had no idea if she was a princess or not, but it didn't matter anymore because they had no prince for her to marry.
Wait what happened to the prince at the end?? This story sounds so interesting 🧐

I once read a version of Jack & the Beanstalk wich explained why Jack & his mother were poor. It goes like this, on the way to the giant's castle Jack meets an old woman who tells him that the giant murdered Jack's father & stole the family's wealth. After the beanstalk gets cut down & the giant dies, the old woman appears again & explains that she is a fairy & was also the person who bought the cow.
