The middy shown at the start was my CO in HMS HURWORTH and approved my 'papers' being raised. The WREN officer taught Met and Oceanography at Dartmouth when I was there, she was married to a four ringer at the time.
@@stephenbethell9176 I flew home from Terror in mid-February, 71 with a lot of others. I guess you were one of the phased-draft that relieved us. I was an MEA(P).
Hi Frank, I recall your name ... think you were a killick stoker? Were on the LCMs? Yes, I was a tiff... I was rated acting-local to relieve Nigel Folley who was sent home with an injured knee from memory.
Yeah, this seems to be the general consensus amongst bootnecks and I can understand why as they were of the opinion that the naval rating were treated like kids.
Definitely the way to go, maybe a few years as a rating then commission if possible, I know what you mean, I feel like I was at school a few months ago, I won't say how many decades it is since I left 😂
Good idea . I'm a doctor and if I had my time again I'd get into diving/aerospace medicine in one of the services - I was never exposed to anything like that when I was younger and when I did realise I was fascinated by it , it was too late .
Brilliant braugt back a lot of Happy memories of my time in the RN
I was the complete opposite…….as a Bootneck I was on detachment to HMS Achilles then as a RM Officer I was the OIC on HMS Ghurka……Had a Wazzer time💥👍

Those bridge shots in Fearless are a rather wonderful reminder of my DTS time as a Mid in Intrepid!
I had a schoolboy aquaint on HMS Charybdis that year - their boast was that they didn't have a single transistor on board.
Was on Intrepid in 69-71. From the uk to the far east and then flown home. Good trip.
We must have passed then, I was on from Jan 71 to 72

My No 1 rule as a RM was keep the fek away from ships and matelots. I was successful.
The same has been said to many a young woman in Pompey :)
That's a shame Royal we would have appreciated you playing your trumpet in the morning😉

so really the army would have been better for you as a main role of a booty is sea soldiers :-)
If I could turn the clock back? Yes , I would have joined the Royal Navy as an officer.⛴️👮♂️
