- greyscale animation presents a short film about a young boy who pleads with his mother to get him a dog but his mother prefers a cat. Years later, the boy runs into what looks like a cat on the street. Can the cat win the boy over with his crazy dog-like antics and become the boy's "odd dog"?
This award-winning animated short has screened at film festivals all around the world and was successfully funded on Kickstarter. It is based on the Director’s son and their cat and was lovingly made by so many incredibly talented artists.

I’ma give this cat a non official backstory
A person went to buy a normal cat at the pet store the boy went to. This person bought the cat in this film not expecting it to act like a dog. This owner is very cruel and once finding this out put the cat in a box, outside, with a bone, and the sign, and leaving it out there for someone else not even returning. The cat stayed there until found by the boy.
I Have One Too
So A Kitten Was Abandoned By Her(?) Cruel Owners, But Was Found By Dogs And Raised By Dogs, Eventually Causing The Kitten To Think They Are A Dog. One Day The Kitten’s “Mother” Got Hit By A Car, And The Rest Of The “Family” Were Shot By Hunters, Leaving Them Alone Until The Boy Found Them.
The boy:can we get this cat that acts like a dog?
The mom:that's not a cat or dog it's a ailen,cats and dogs don't come in blue
Cat tongues are spiky. That kid got a fateful of spikes at the end

Because it was panting and holding the bone and growled at him which dogs do
And it was meowing and purring which cats do.
More likely a cat that was raised by dogs..Cats raised around dogs tend to adopt their behavior! I’ve even seen the opposite happen.

She was amazing, and acted pretty much like Odd Dog here, She liked to play fetch and even little walks on park!

You have no idea how much anxiety it gave me each time that cat crossed the street.
That was my thought. A lot of these short videos love to try to pull a sudden sad note as some kind of message. I kept thinking a car would hit it to turn it into some kind of not appreciating what the world is offering theme.
Especially as they had one kitten in the box at the end of the pet store thing. And it even was blocked by the sign for a dog collar. I could so imagine it ending with the cat dying and remembering the boy looking at the puppies while it wanted a home.
So glad they went a happy route. Obviously I've seen way to many depressing things pop up in my suggestions.

OMG, They animated MY Cat! LOL ( I miss him so much) My cat was kinda dog-like in that he panted when playing, he was easily trained to do tricks like lie, down, catch and release, high five, and behave properly (like sit and wait for food instead of storming forward and knocking the plate over). He liked to go for walks, so he was leash trained. He liked to take baths, or jump into mine, and he didn't mind the hairdryer. . He didn't care about the rain, and he had his own towel, and would wait to be dried if he got caught in it, then he'd walk around with the towel draped over him like it was a robe! LOL He wanted to become friends with everyone, even other cats and dogs, which confused the dogs and their owners. He had a metal bell that he would come when rang, and he'd ring the jingle bells on the door when he wanted out. We found him as a stray, and think he may have had Turkish Van roots from his looks and behavior. He even made people who didn't like cats like him cause he was so open and transparent. He never scratched or bit anyone on purpose unless he were playfighting with a protected glove or hand covered with cloth. He knew hands were not for biting or scratching. He was the Party cat. Of course he'd sometimes sit on your cards or your gameboard, but he never stole the pieces of the game while we were playing. He'd just watch. He passed away at 13 years in 2020. We miss him dearly. This animated short reminds me of how special he was. Thank you.

So it’s been almost 4 years since I’ve commented this(it’s almost August of 2024) and I have 0 memory of watching this or making this comment, a notification led me back. I have rewatched this video fresh and I gotta say, it sure as heck deserves that award
The fact that this "odd dog" knows commands like sit, stay, and even play dead indicates they were trained to do so. But by who? And what were the circumstances that led to them being alone? I'm not saying they were abandoned, just that... It seems like something sad happened to the previous owner and I would cry

This is really adorable... It made me both sad and happy... Sad that there are many animals that live in cages in pet shops and hardly will find a suitable home and happy that animation showed us that regardless of anything we can grow to love animals... Everyone should love animals... Thats one of many things that this short told us...
