Yes please to more tool videos. You don't come across as bragging at all and it is wonderful to see all your varied tools, makes me jealous but also gives me great ideas and solutions to some of my own shop problems.
no brag jest fact,, what you showed was the result of a life time spent using and careing for tools, thanks for takeing the time to share your knowalage with us
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my girlfriend for the last couple of weeks =)
Mr.Pete, I am so glad you answered Sam's request, as a fellow tool Collector (horder) I have learned so much from your videos and those little tips are so valuable. Bragging is the last thing that comes to mind when it comes to tools, every time I get a new tool I always let my friends know about it... By the same token I let them know about the tools I bought that I don't like. Thanks again!
No short answer, but Sloyd (Slöjd), also known as Educational sloyd, was a system of handicraft-based education fron Sweeden, but also used in the US. The knife was used in this education.
A tool box tour would be fun. I have numerous tool boxes but mine are filled with wood working tools/instruments that I use while working with Habitat for Humanity. You can never have too many tools, no matter what type they are!!
We are a group of students machinists (16 of us) at the Technical Aeronautical school in Montreal Canada (E.M.A.M) and we are following this channel. I know I speak for all of us when I say: Yes! Please show us your toolbox :-) We enjoy your videos alot! Please keep posting them. I would also like to thank you personaly for showing us these videos. They are very inspiring for us learning how to become machinists.
Looking forward to the toolbox tour. You are not bragging. We all appreciate you spreading your knowledge to others, you are a great teacher and insperation. Wish I could hang out with you to learn more, but the videos are GREAT, keep up the good work. By the way, Blue Point tools are sold by Snap On dealers.
Definitely not bragging. I find that it's interesting and helpful to see what others have in their shops, what they find useful, and why. Excellent video!
Not bragging at all. So many newbies to this great hobby may not even know what tools are available for use or what can actually be used. Your video gives great insight for these and many other people. Great work.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make all your videos. I'm not a machinist just a guy who is happier in my humble workshop then staring at a glowing box. You've taught me many things from afar, Thank you. P.S,,, Smashing to slide rule was hilarious!!!
I love that little spring loaded center punch! I have got to find myself one of those. This is an excellent video and I hope to see more of your collection.
Thanks so much for sharing! For anyone familiar with machinists tools, what's in that Gerstner or Kennedy speaks volumes about not only the nature of the machinist's work but also the machinist's expertise, personality and sometimes even his idiosyncrasies. Since the tools you keep close to hand and the reasons why provide a glimpse into your soul, it's a very personal thing, but very useful to share.
I really enjoyed this video. I am an Industrial mechanic / welder / electrician / machinist. I buy all my tools used from flea markets, garage sales and I've even picked up some great used and vintage tools on ebay for a fraction of the original price. That's all I use at work and in my home shop. The wife gives me a hard time about having so many tools, that is, until she wants something done around the house. I really enjoy your videos and would like to see a tour of your tool box's
I wish I had you as shop teacher in High School. I love your style of teaching and the way you produce your videos, with the rubber tipped pointer and the use of information and notes written on cards. I have been in the automotive repair business for over fourty years but I am just starting to learn the machinist trade. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I would have liked to see how to use that slide rule,,,,,LOL. Signing off for now. Keep up the good work and thanks.
I'd like to see a toolbox tour! And yes! the workbench is a tool, exactly! And yes, the calculator is also a great tool, so are good optics (hell I even repaired an old zoom-stereo-microscope for using when I do really fine work). And yes, a dremmel-tool with a parting bit has to be on stand by, I even made a holder for that in my tiny shed so it's always ready to go. Great video!
Great Video, I recently bought the Starrett book of tools and rules on the inside cover of it, printed was the same "poem" that you recited. Though it was worth mentioning. I really enjoy all your videos, espicially enjoyed the tool box tours. Also the splitting hair on the lathe video was great my favourite videos are your lathe related videos. I hope to see many many more if you post them I promise to watch and enjoy them. Keep it up!!!!!! :)
By all means, Mr. Pete, I would be glad to share with everyone else, the viewing of your tool boxes. Anyone that is truly dedicated to ones career showing his invested tools of his trade is not brag, it will be a walk down memory lane! There is not too many of us left that have a life time collection of tools, within the same hands, still in use. It would be more of an honor to be shown by you personally rather than, later by other than! My Favorite too, on the six inch flexy scale ;{)-----
I like to see other's tools. It lets me know what else is out there I need (lol). Comments on proper usages or what to look for in tools helps everyone. No MrPete, you are not bragging. Just a man with a passion that is proud of what he has.
I enjoyed your "tool tour" and NO I do not see it as bragging. It is your passion (and a good one) to collect and use tools. I don't care how long someone has been using tools they can always learn more. I appreciate your videos and would like to see a tool box tour or two especially of the more unusual and old school tools.
Thanks Mr Pete: Your a Man of my own thinking. My kids are going to have a hay-day after I'm gone.. I can just hear them. "What! here is another one of these, That must be five or six of these we have found now.. I love having tools even if I only use them occassionally. Keep up the good work, I too will be fighting for one of those seats in the front row when your next video is produced.
A most sincere thank you for your videos. You certainly cannot be accused of bragging so please don't be put off from sharing your knowledge and skills - or details of your tool collection!
My favorite tool in the shop is my CNC mill. I push the start button then get to use my REAL favorite tool in the river down the road. My fishing pole :-) As always great video and thanks so much for posting.
I just picked up a 50 foot Lufkin tape measure that is pretty old but in great shape for a 1.00!! I completely agree with you on used tools. And don't sweat coming across as bragging. You are giving me a good idea what I lack in regards to gearing up my lathe and mill. THANK YOU for your matter of fact delivery and taking the time to share your expertise. I for one missed out on a good shop class. My dinky school didn't have one. Keep warm!!!! de....STxRynn
I absolutely LOVE going to flea markets and garage sales! I very much enjoy the thrill of finding old vintage well made tools for a couple bucks. My tool collection isn't exactly the greatest or biggest, but it sure is growing!
Great video Mr.Pete and I would love to see the tool box video. Just letting you know, you've helped me out many times, I would have loved to been one of your students. Keep up the great work!
i dont consider this video bragging i enjoyed it very much Your sharing your knowledge and advice as a machinist. and many people respect that. would love to see a tool boxing video.
I have to say thank you. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I wish I knew half of what you have forgotten over the years. Please do a tool box video. We are lucky you share what you know. Thanks again
Great video. I am a tool junkie also. Like you I have many, many tools some great and many just left in the drawer. Two of my favorites are my Jet 6 x 48 belt/ 12"disc sander and my old Craftsman motor with a 8" wire wheel on one side and a 3M grit wheel on the other. I constantly use the wire brush to clean up my grage sale finds. The grit wheel is great for cleaning steel and light deburring and polishing.
Thanks for the video. I learn so much from you about machining. I don't consider it bragging. I have thirty four years experience as a auto technician and am fascinated by tools of all kinds. I would love to see a video on files and your toolbox. Keep up the good work.
A video showing your tool box would be great. Also, one showing your overall shop organization would be awesome...seeing how others organize/store/ hang their tools is a great help.
I like the video's of the tradesman's shop, there is good learning on what tools the experienced use so it's easy to follow that then, I don't look at it as bragging, it's been collected over the years as you see fit and that's what you have, great video.
Mr Pete, as Keith Fenner would say..."What's in your box?" Please show us! Love your videos, and have learned so much from you, Keith, and of course ole Shop Dog Sam.
Please more toolbox tours, I enjoy buying second hand tools for a dollar or two just to give me a chance to ask the owner " ok, so what is this thing I just bought?" This video is exactly that same learning experience!
Whoww what a great job it to was like you and sold every thing when i retired.. 9that onely lasted 2yeas ) now i am wishing i had it or 1/2 back again.... great job and yes do the tool box ... love it gerald
Pete...regarding hammers, I was at a man's retirement years ago and they gave him a plaque with a hammer, assumption he was known as a "hammer mechanic"..... But I always remembered what he said holding up the award....." This hammer is the tool of education, if you use it long enough you will wish you had an education"
Thank you. That was great. Tool box tour for sure!! You have inspired me. I should do a tool video too. I don't have quite as much as you, but it might be an interesting little show.
Thanks for yet another great video! I could have watched this for hours... Please do give us a look into your toolboxes. And the idea about a "file video" sounds interesting, too. Cheers from the land Down Under...
Ha Ha...I have a sloyd knife on my bench! I open packages with it mostly. Good idea putting the tack in the handles to prevent rolling. You need to discover 3/4" snap-on sanding discs for the Dremel. they and the mandrels are cheap on E-bay and are not seen at the big box stores. Jewelers use them all the time and you might also enjoy a flex shaft grinder with a hanging motor as the hand piece is not bulky like a Dremel, giving you more control.
Tubalcain, I'm a Technology Education teacher and I have the same quote by Thomas Carlyle in my classroom for my students to read. I also know what the significance of the Sloyd Knife and Educational Sloyd is to us. Thanks for the many great videos. I'd love to see a video of your tool box.
An excellent video on a sample set of tools in use and your thoughts about them. In no way does this video come across as bragging or exalting an ego. As someone who does not work with tools for a living, I found this video to be illuminating and educational. I would also like to see a shop video.

Do the tool box tour, I loved Keith's tool box tours, great fun. I'm still finding stuff my Grandfather hoarded hidden inside of other hoarded stuff. I have way too many tools and can't wait to get more, the logic of not specifically needing them does not get in the way of my snagging another good one.
Hello, Please show us the contents of your toolboxes as well! I enjoy going through Mr. Fenner's as well. One can never have too many tools and I have purchased some I never knew I needed (and use)until I looked at these videos
Mr Pete rest assured you don't come across as bragging. An interesting video, especially to hear you views on some tools that are around these days. It is fascinating and very reassuring to know that there are others out there like oneself. You and Keith Fenner are always worth watching, I've learnt a lot from both of you.
Tubalcain: What an awesome video, I'm glad i'm not the only one in the world obsessed with tools, My partner, she doesnt understand my collection and compulsion to get more! I'd also love to see the toolbox tour
You get better deals at garage sales than I do. Showing the tools you like the best I think is useful. There are so many tools, some are more useful than others, and we do seem to use a select few all of the time.

THANK YOU FOR THE TOUR ,
Ha Ha...I have a sloyd knife on my bench!
I really enjoyed that and you weren't bragging. I would like to see a toolbox tour please.
Loved it! And I would love to see your tool boxes as well.....
Nicely done, would not say bragging, just years of collecting..would love to see the tool box tour...
I absolutely love your video's! learned a lot from them. And since I love tools too, I would appreciate a toolbox tour.
Thanks!
An excellent video on a sample set of tools in use and your thoughts about them. In no way does this video come across as bragging or exalting an ego. As someone who does not work with tools for a living, I found this video to be illuminating and educational. I would also like to see a shop video.
Yes, Yes...tool box tour please. Thanks Mr. Pete.
I had the opportunity to purchase the welding/machine shop that belonged to my wife's uncles. They opened it when they got back from the Pacific in WW2. The last one of the brothers had to quit about 5 years ago. I bought the place lock, stock and barrel. I am constantly finding tools in there. Some ordinary, some obscure. It's like finding a $10 bill in your pocket you thought you lost everyday.
googaboogaloo Sounds interesting
Yes please, a tool box tour would be great.
... And please do the file video, I have just started in clockmaking and would love to hear your thoughts on file use, storage, care, maintenance etc
He who dies with the most tools wins!!! I didn't find this video to be braggadocios in the least. It just tells me that I need more tools. hahaha Thanks for the tour Mr Pete!
