    this old man is solid as a rock I bet. That is alot of work and he probably does that for 10 hours a day or more.

      bbmatty I take it you have never had a real job yet. Not knocking the farmer, but that just looked like work. If it's hot, do it early in the morning, or in the evening.

    Until viewing this video, I thought tequila was made from a fruit looking like a large pineapple! It's obvious why what's left after the cutting is called a piña. Useful video.

      It gives me motivation to see old folks supervising kids to get off their asses and work hard. So many old people these days just do things themselves or go off and retire never to be seen the same again.

    Those plants are huge! I wanted to see some agave because my store carries agave syrup and is next to the sugar. and it shows a little image of a piney plant. Then I bought some whiskey that says 100% agave. I was like sweeeeet.

    Definitely hard labor goes into making tequila. I read that they can make 12 cases of tequila out of one of those hearts. Look for 100% de agave on the bottle. Straight up its delish.

    planting blue agave is a great way to make money, but you need the right kind of land. but its not a fast way to make money. takes up to 7-8 years. Just a little info your yal:)

    Hmm, I have a few, maybe four or five agave on my land but maybe 50 pups that are three years old. I retire in five years so maybe give myself a good send off. 😊

    I do farm labour outside and i love it, but o wouldnt do this a day. My work is probably even harder, but the temperature in 10 maybe even 15 Degrees colder. Many people underestimate that. Working in that heat just unbelievable torture

    why are the outer stalks chopped off and not used? do lower quality tequilas use the entire stalks along with the hearts?

      Z00 the stalks are really bitter in taste, and the quality of the tequila is based on the aging process. Of course, I'm not tequila expert, but I'm sure the stalks are never used.

    How did anyone initially figure out that tequila could be made from agave? I mean someone had to think, what does that taste like?

    If I had to do that, I would rent a backhoe or at least use a makita grinder to keep my shovel sharp.
    I would like to get hold a bottle of natural syrup from this plant on my next visit.

    I do not like that he does this as if the plant is a non-feeling, non sentient being. The plant shouild be talked to before it is killed...asked if its willing to die. Give prayers for its soul and thanks if the plant spirit is willing to give away its body to the man.

    @brunettechocha I understand you not liking tequila, everyone has their own taste, but that was one of the stupidest things I've read. We don't drink tequila JUST because agave is grown in abundance in Mexico. There are thousands of people who would disagree with you in and outside of Mexico about the taste of tequila. And FYI, Mexico does import liquors. And because many people enjoy tequila its considered one of Mexico's prized possessions.
