  • Chances are, you know someone who came home early. You might not even realize it so it's even more important that we help to create an environment of welcome and respect. Our friends with MISSION FORTIFY share some of their experiences (good and awkward) in this new "What (& What Not) to Say" video.

    A mission is not a requirement for Salvation. President Nelson didn't even serve a mission and is the prophet of the church. I believe any service, regardless of the time served, is honorable!

    I came home early with an honorable release. I served there for a year. Then seven years later, I will serve another church service mission at the Gilbert Seminary and Mesa Records Operation Center for a year.

      A mission is not more important than many other things it’s ok to come home early or not even go. Even if you didn’t go again it’s not that big of a deal.

    My mission was ended early for medical/mental health reasons. I was out for a little over a year and had to come home. It was not the way I thought my mission would end, but I'm grateful I had so many loving members of my home ward who welcomed me and loved me. To those who come early for such reasons, you are loved, you are valued, and The Lord appreciates your service. Perhaps even more than those who didn't have to come home early for such reasons.

    I came home early and one thing that has really bothered me is when people ask me when I'm going back and tell me stories of people who went back out. I just wish they'd stop talking and try to listen to me, even though I know they mean well.

      Don’t worry about it! You didn’t do anything wrong. A mission is not required by anyone. It is your choice either way. None of the first presidency went on missions and they are the head of the church.

    They are humans and they have personal struggles and imperfections just like me. So who am I to judge? Let me love you in the best way I can for keeping strong in the Church rather than going away! Personal prayers for all of us. Much love.

    The world is changing so fast now. Not so very long ago we heard so many stories (some legend some legit) about missionaries who will be coming home early from their missions. We never thought for a minute that one reason may be for an opportunity to practice love and acceptance rather than appearing judgemental. Love to all of you who served however you served. I know the lord will bless you for all you have and will do. 🤗

    How about not saying anything at all other than it's nice to see you home safe. We don't know the challenges RM's are dealing with, and it is actually no one's business. It annoys me too when I come across conversations of speculation. I am like well this person most probably saved money and made adjustments to go on a mission. The fact that they tried and sacrificed still counts big time ❤

    • @wendie8290
      @wendie8290 3 года назад +1

      People are not always judging. Some are but they are few. Most just feel awkward but want to show love and concern for ward family member.

    • @MarleeCraig
      @MarleeCraig 3 года назад +1

      @@wendie8290- I agree that not everyone is judgemental, but to say that it is only a few is not accurate. In this presentation are RM's from different areas and wards. These are their experiences, and they are saying that they have all been marginalized and judged in one way or another. In a perfect world there shouldn't be any judgements, but as members we too fall short, and we do tend to judge our own. Yes there is support in some situations but judgement is always in the mix there somewhere. I hope that we as members will get the message when we watch this video, and be more supportive to all our RM's. Have a good day.

    I had a friend who came home early dishonorably, and I just want to say that they matter too. There are lots of reasons that people come home early, and it's not our place to judge. I think he might have felt like he had let people down or had committed some unforgivable sin, and all I want is for him to know that the service he did do still counts. He's not perfect by neither am I.
    The point is, regardless of the reason that someone comes home, honorably or dishonorably, medical reasons or not, they all deserve to be treated like returned missionaries and children of God. It doesn't matter why they came home.

    • @davericard2020
      @davericard2020 Год назад +2

      Yes you are right! It doesn’t matter if they came home early. There is nothing wrong with not going at all either. A mission is not required for anything. No one should shame anyone for their choices.

  • @jh-nt9ws

    It seems we erroneously judge missionaries for the amount of time served, and forget about the amount they gave. Some missionaries may come home early, but they have paid “the utmost farthing...the widows mite” if you will. While other’s may serve the time, but only gave a portion of their excess. Whomever gives their all, regardless of time, gave the most and gets back the most from their missions.

    Tough subject, but fact is there are people that get sent home for being disobedient to the point where the church has no option but to send them home, it's not always a medical excuse. Obviously it's fair to have less sympathy for someone that gets sent home because of circumstances of their own making, and their own bad choices. I also take issue with guys I know who got sent home early due to being disobedient and then talk later as if they served a complete and honourable mission, when I know they didn't.
