That was awesome, I never tire of watching reactions to this insane and phenomenal performance. It's the best hidden gem of her whole catalogue that only hardcore fans ever find. I'm actually very happy that many of the hardcore fans are gathered here and are giving me recommendations for this performance or songs like I am A-WA. She's got an extremely varied repertoire quite worth watching and even more fun when "seen" in company. As for a double reaction, I'm not sure if it will be a double or if I'll do them separately in order to avoid blocks (just had a second one happen). Also, we're not close yet, I've made a promise to cover Love by Grace next, and I do keep my promises, which is why I rarely make them. Still, Lara remains a big and important part of my own reactions repertoire - both because some of her fans have really become friends and because I really like her. Okay, I’ll pretend I’m surprised by your reaction, after all, your face expressions were way too priceless… 🤣 My sentiments go to that poor chair, tho… Lara was really on fire that night. It’s also a real shame that we don’t have a high quality footage of this astounding and flexible performance (I’m quite sure it’s a VHS recording, since it’s a 1998 performance), but, frankly, she’s sooooo good, that we soon forget this tiny technical detail and focus our attention solely on her and those out of this world vocal runs. Actually, how she managed to breathe and travel through all those low and high notes while on such infamous positions, remains a mystery till this day. There is a phrase that circulates among those who work in music (and perhaps it applies to any activity): learn the technique and forget it. The toolbox of a singer (in common with those who also play wind instruments) contains some fundamental basic techniques: the use of dynamics, register, pronunciation, intonation, flexibility, management of emission, stamina, and other small things (melisma, leap, completeness of phrases, vowels and consonants, mixed voice, etc.) and interpretation. Lara possesses these fundamentals as a result of innate talent but also of ten years as a soprano in the conservatory and continuous study in the following years up to today. These tools are part of her, she does not have to think about how to use them during a performance so she can dedicate herself exclusively to interpretation. Of course many singers, worthy of the name, have them and use them but Lara has something more: most singers use them all or part of them during the whole song, Mrs. Fabian manages to put them in every single phrase sometimes at the same time (in addition to writing the lyrics and singing in different languages). For these (technical) reasons for me she is the top in this genre for about 30 years. Can I say that she is also a beautiful woman and in this blues she is very sexy or does anyone get offended? 😆

Beyond the terrible quality of the video and audio, this demonstrates, if there was any need, the impressive control that Lara has over her emission. Singing in that register and in those positions is almost impossible, but she does it all easily. 😓
It was Raquel who found this "better quality" video, there are even worse ones out there. What's strange is that even that does not take away from her performance. Quite the opposite, the fact we can still hear everything she does here with clarity through the "noise" is also amazing.

Shouldn't "sky" be "heaven"? I've been trying to learn some French, inspired by Lara to finally do it, so I'm curious why you translated le ciel this way.

@elizabethwhite1068 I believe you are both correct. The literal meaning is sky, but the connotation in this case can be heaven. Those two words are somewhat interchangeable depending on context.

Okay, I’ll pretend I’m surprised by your reaction, after all, your face expressions were way too priceless… 🤣 My sentiments go to that poor chair, tho… Lara was really on fire that night. It’s also a real shame that we don’t have a high quality footage of this astounding and flexible performance (I’m quite sure it’s a VHS recording, since it’s a 1998 performance), but, frankly, she’s sooooo good, that we soon forget this tiny technical detail and focus our attention solely on her and those out of this world vocal runs. Actually, how she managed to breathe and travel through all those low and high notes while on such infamous positions, remains a mystery till this day. Seriously, Lara has to be studied bc “that” is just not normal… and she was clearly having so much fun… like it was the most natural thing ever. 🤯

Once again, we fully agree on everything! What I loved about this in additional to everything else, even though I didn't understand the full dialog before the song, but thanks to Eric I now do, is her sense of humor. Besides that, I wonder if she ever trained as a gymnast... There is a phrase that circulates among those who work in music (and perhaps it applies to any activity): learn the technique and forget it. The toolbox of a singer (in common with those who also play wind instruments) contains some fundamental basic techniques: the use of dynamics, register, pronunciation, intonation, flexibility, management of emission, stamina, and other small things (melisma, leap, completeness of phrases, vowels and consonants, mixed voice, etc.) and interpretation. Lara possesses these fundamentals as a result of innate talent but also of ten years as a soprano in the conservatory and continuous study in the following years up to today. These tools are part of her, she does not have to think about how to use them during a performance so she can dedicate herself exclusively to interpretation. Of course many singers, worthy of the name, have them and use them but Lara has something more: most singers use them all or part of them during the whole song, Mrs. Fabian manages to put them in every single phrase sometimes at the same time (in addition to writing the lyrics and singing in different languages). For these (technical) reasons for me she is the top in this genre for about 30 years. Can I say that she is also a beautiful woman and in this blues she is very sexy or does anyone get offended? 😆

I love how you call her Mrs. Fabian, even though I now often write just Lara or Lara Fabian I am thinking Mrs. Fabian. Yes, you can say she is very beautiful and sexy. I might be a bit jealous of her. Most of us envy others more beautiful than we are even when we don't want to, but it's certainly not offensive to praise beauty and sex appeal. In fact, I agree with you completely on that score. Not to mention that she has class and doesn't need to parade half-naked to achieve this extreme level of attractiveness.

Beyond the terrible quality of the video and audio, this demonstrates, if there was any need, the impressive control that Lara has over her emission. Singing in that register and in those positions is almost impossible, but she does it all easily. 😓
It was Raquel who found this "better quality" video, there are even worse ones out there. What's strange is that even that does not take away from her performance. Quite the opposite, the fact we can still hear everything she does here with clarity through the "noise" is also amazing.

To be honest, I was in a lack of time, and I skimmed through the performance, after having heard the first 20-30 seconds (with very lacking audio quality).
