A number of these units are not for general use. They require a license to operate and YOU NEED TO MAKE THAT CLEAR as you will get people who don't understand radio into a shite load of trouble. The ANYTONE and AILUNCE are LICENSE ONLY HAM radios. The reason being is that the use of licensed radio without a license and VALID CALLSIGN is illegal and can land the oblivious and uninformed operator a hefty fine from regulators. Also, you cannot use licensed HAM radio on PMR license free 146 MHz bands due to the higher power output of them (they are not TYPE APPROVED for use on those frequencies) which will again draw the ire of the regulators. The standard PMR license free power output is approx. 0.5 Watt, where as licensed HAM radios can push out 5 Watts +. License free radios are great for family and outdoor stuff as you mention but DO NOT confuse them with licensed HAM radio. They are very different animals and should not be discussed as the same.
@@CaraRamelow-c6i nope, I would have said if that was the case. The two I commented on are excellent radios but not for unlicensed use. As for the other 3 (no license needed) radios my pick would be the Midland. It is a well proven platform. The other two are fine for general family type (not extreme environment) activities.

Hi. Was looking for a PMR 446 and while searching, came across your video. Beautifully made. I don't have access to Cobra. The options infront of me are Motorola T82 extreme and Baofeng UV 10R. Both are rugged, waterproof and shockproof. I am a bit in favour of Motorola though Baofeng has better range and costs half of Motorola. Can you please tell me your opinion.
AND the F C C has band the BAOFENG from G M R S use as it does not meet speck's from the F C C as it is a cross over from the HAM radio world which requires a licensee with test to pass be fore you receive your licensee
this goes for all family service radio's thay have a 1/2 watt transmitter that put's you at a mile or line of site only thay are under F C C rules which can not be changed

I don't understand why more people don't just buy CB walkie talkies ? I tried so many PMR466 and they're ok for short range but CB makes a huge difference, depending on Antenna you can get 5 times the range of PMR466. I switched to President Randy III radios and the difference even with stock antennas was big but when both radios use aftermarket antenna the difference is "huge" or the beauty about CB is you can use a base antenna at home such as the IMAX 2000 and you'll even be able to contact people in other countries. With the President Randy III and the IMAX 2000 on the roof of the house I can make contacts from Ireland all over Europe to North, Central and South America when conditions permit with just the radio and a proper base antenna. I know this isn't what some people want but it shows the capability of CB vs PMR466. The President Randy III provides many more features, AM/FM but sadly no SSB. It comes with a car kit which I believe allows up to 12 watts, don't quote me on this. It has a lithium battery which is convenient. I tried PMR466 but I live in the Country and CB just gets way further even with stock antennas but for little extra a decent 27 Mhz whip can be bought for even better range. There is also the Albrecht AE-2990 which does have SSB and both the Albrecht and President can be modified easily to enable all frequencies.
