Back in the day my local toy shop only sold Airfix, so I never got to build a FROG kit. A few years ago I acquired their 1/72 JU88 and rather than build it, I've decided to keep it for posterity's sake.
You may already know this, but FROG is actually an acronym and stands for Flies Right Off The Ground- which their early kits did!

All the aircraft kits shown are 1/72nd scale. Frog did do some aircraft in 1/32nd, but I think these were all ex-Hasegawa. The older kits in scales such as 1/96th had all been retired by the time this catalogue came out. Frog did a lot of kits other firms did not. I built the great Swordfish as a floatplane, and rigged it with black cotton. I also had the Jaguar (two--seat trainer), Mosquito, Me410 wth 50 mm gun, Do-17Z in Finnish markings,. I also had a number of the Novo re-issues, including types that had not been made by Frog in years, but the decals were terrible. Frog always gave you an interesting choice of markings, often covering the smaller air arms that most firms ignored. Even the RAF and Fleet Air Arm aircraft were often in unusual colours, such as South East Asia Command or the British Pacific Fleet. A few of the really late kits were not included in the catalogue, such as the PV-1 Ventura. I do not think the B-17 and Lancaster were ever released, at least not by Frog themselves. There has been at least one book released on Frog, and another just on the pre-war/early post-war Penguin line.

Yes i was told the Grumman 1/32 F6F Hellcat was hasegawa, Which is something im looking at.. Im researching a video on whether hasegawa plain copied 1/72 planes from Frog.. The wildcat is a prime example where the tooling looks very similar.. except Hasegawa was recess panel lines to frogs raised. Keep an eye out for it, im gonna film it this week

I have built many Frog kits, my first build was in 1973 which was probably the Bf-109F. In the past year I have built 6, my most recent was the Westland Wessex in which I totally enjoyed. I do like the way they build, plus I do not mind scratch building the cockpit area or anything that needs to be made to add into these builds. Their outlines/overall look are not bad, but they do need work in details that are lacking but they are from the 60’s and 70’s so expect to see this when you open a box and that was the norm back then. Currently I have over 90 Frog kits in my stash.

The La7. I think I’ve said this before! Got it in 1977 (dark blue plastic) and made a really good job of it. Didn’t see many Frog kits locally, so I thought they were exotic. And French! Soon after, Woolworths started stocking Novo and I had no idea they were Frog either. I was thick when I was young. Made a couple but the decals were atrocious. In recent years I’ve made quite a few and I love them, especially now there are so many after market decals available to spruce them up.

It is a pity the full range is it available. I know some are released by Ark, Academy and others but there are ones like the early prototype jets (P1, DH110 etc) that would be great to see again.

Frog is a company I have heard of but never actually built any of their kits, though I do remember seeing the Novo rebadged ones when I was a child. Were all those aircraft in one scale only? They look as though they went together pretty well based on the photos of the finished kits, and it's interesting to see that as far back as then they had color painting guides on their boxes and the catalogue has miniature roundels symbolising the different decal options available, something I thought only came on stream in the last 15 or so years.

Frog had some of the best, and some of the worst plastic models.
One of the best was the float version swordfish aircraft, and the worst was the RAF phantom, where you physically had to cut into the plastic underside of the aircraft if you wanted undercarriage down.
    Thank You.

The Swordfish was probably the best ever model of the type produced at that time. The main issue I found was low visibility of the models in shops, I had to get mine mail order as Airfix had cornered the market.

I build the older kits of Typhoon and P47 D razorback, they weren't good, no pilots or interiors, and the undercarriage primitive, on the contrary the Blenheim Mk1 was more than decent, FROG in Italy wasn't very widespread such as Airfix or Revell.
