What a great speech/eulogy by a personal friend. A friend who had also suffered the slings and arrows of the press. I so enjoyed listening to this. As I age, I see the best in people and avoid their flaws. God knows I have mine. Thank you Mr. Simpson and God bless George H.W. Bush.
Even in a frail body his voice was strong and his message to those that knew Bush 41 was a wonderful tribute to his friend. Mixed with humor and love for a friend now gone.
Profound…Such a wonderful tribute by Senator Simpson to his friend George. All the speeches that day were wonderful. A loving sendoff for a loving man.
Simpson was majority whip during late 80s and early 90s I think and as a moderate on critical social issues such as abortion among other things, got in the cross hairs of both the party and the media from time to time. Think he was replaced as whip by Trent Lott... but my memory wasn't what it was...lol. He was always outspoken ...it's just how he was and is known for his clever and sardonic quotes. Not always appreciated by those who didn't appreciate his whit or temperament. Part of the generation that gave us Bush and Dole. Like I said...they just don't make like that anymore.
Watched in Ireland today and thought what a wonderful, well delivered eulogy to a well respected former President, and wondered what would be said, sometime in the future, about the present incumbent!
All the eulogy and speeches were fantastic, but you can tell Alan + the former Pres had a really special friendship. To have a friend like that is amazing and rare; what a beautiful eulogy indeed.

This is classic Alan Simpson. Even during his time in Washington DC, he exhibited that same strait forward unpretentious style of speaking. He had a quick dry sense of humor and very even tempered and sincere when he served as a senator. Especially when he served on the Senate Judiciary committee during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Incidentally, it was none other than Joe Biden who was the chairman of that committee. That was two years before the Republicans took back the Senate.
How do you know he wasnt addressing Obama in his bash the president self cingradulatory tour or Hillary and her extent of fakery to distroy someone with a paid for fabricated dossier.

Here's a primer on the various pronunciations: ruclips.net/video/qalnaUkgqx4/видео.html The British pronounce it "vozz" while Americans generally pronounce it "vaase" or "vaaze." Taken a step further: Titles bestowed upon persons do nothing to enhance their worth. In my opinion, it was a brilliant allegory, considering the senator’s very immediate audience.
