    Good morning sir. I have not commented in a while and that's because I've been watching your videos on the big screen ( the only way to watch your videos 😂🤣) . Just wanted to thank you for all the videos in 2024 and looking forward to your 2025 updates. Wishing you and your family the best of health and prosperity in 2025 and beyond. Thanks again and be well.

    I've a bit to catch up upon, it appears! Love the sound, of course, especially the effect you demonstrated up the helix grade. No sound in the Trackmobile??? I am kidding, I promise lol... Love the Trackmobile. The greaser turned out well. You've captured the heavy undergrowth of the South so well. One can almost "hear" the kudzoo growing lol... Seriously, though, so much of the materials I see today weren't available long ago, back when we were still using lichen for trees along with ground foam. Your scenery, weathering and rolling stock always look outstanding. It's always a pleasure stopping in and seeing your latest progress. Happy New Year!

    I enjoyed the update, Tim. Everything is looking great. The heavy weathering on the Gulf & Ship Island grain hoppers turned out very nice as did the patched-out former BNSF grain hoppers. Your weathering abilities are excellent. Thank you! Mike

    Nice update Tim.
    One thing I do to my static grasss and tuft scenery is to “near dry brush” color with a small artist brush and diluted acrylic paints. I ever so lightly hit the tops of the grass/tufts with the bush in a circular motion. Very effective technique that provides total color flexibility.
    Hope you feel better and have a good week.
    Scott

    in the intro when we were riding around the corner after cresting the helix we went under that overpass and I remember thinking "where in the heck are we?? This looks great I can't wait to hear about it!" and then we rounded the corner and the cement plant was there. I'm typing this at 8m 39s into the video as you just start to explain the new section

      That is great. I would recommend using Tamiya Paint. It is easy on an airbrush and most of the time all you need to clean it is 90% Isopropyl alcohol.

    Hi Tim, Happy New Year and thanks for this Layout Update to kick things off. I liked the Foliage at the Bridge and also, the Weathering on the Hopper Cars. I've always wondered why Grain Hoppers have black staining down their Sides - now I know.

    Robert Riley owns the G&SI at Gulfport, MS. Chris has a fine line of cars at home shops, too!
    And those grain hoppers are stellar. We do a lot of soybean and corn with Sanderson farms and Tyson and man I stepped in a pile of it once and that was a wrap. My engineer said “did you step in s***?”🤣🤣🤣 it was hard to get off too.

    I use to work on those greasers and the bars for a gauge face greaser would be mounted on the inside edge of the rail. The bars you modeled are for the TOR (top of rail) Friction Modifier Lubricators. That isn’t a grease but a lubricant that eliminates the natural friction between the wheels and the rail

    happy new year tim... nice update (hope you had the main holidays off... i live near a UP mainline and saw some of their trains on christmas eve and christmas day... and UP has that AWFUL attendance policy where if you mark off on a holiday they make you walk the plank)....
    but i digress...
    the overpass looks really nice, especially with all the tress and foliage around it...
    but honestly tim i don't see how you do it... you work for a real railroad and yet you find the time, energy and enthusiasm to complete a model railroad...
    i worked for the chicago and northwestern and the UP back in the 90s... i did dabble in the hobby here and there while i was real railroading... but the BIGGEST hurdle for me was the enthusiasm part...
    after looking at those REAL boxcars all day at work, i couldn't stomach even one minute looking at a miniature one at home LOL...
    so i applaud you for hanging in there and staying MOTIVATED

    • @SeaboardCentral
      @SeaboardCentral  2 дня назад +1

      Thanks! I am number four on the engineer’s roster for my seniority district so that allows me to stand for a lot of different jobs. We bid on jobs every week so if I want to change to a train with a different schedule I can. I don’t care for the mainline runs so I stick to the daylight road switchers with either Saturday-Sunday or Sunday-Monday off days.
      Work is work. It’s not bad but the commute home can be dealing with Atlanta traffic. My hobby is my escape and that is the way I look at it. If I am away from the layout I start having withdrawals because I find it relaxing and rewarding. I have four more years on the prototype and then I’ll be full time Seaboard Central! Can’t wait!

  • @benmoreau8404
    @benmoreau8404 2 дня назад +1

    The foliage looks great near the bridge, color and texture gives it some depth to it. Is it expensive to have someone do the weathering on your cars? Just looks awesome as well as your own!

    • @SeaboardCentral
      @SeaboardCentral  2 дня назад

      Thanks! Weathering varies on how much time is spent on the cars so something simple might be around $40 where something extravagant with graffiti and a lot of rust weathering can be up to $120. It really depends because you are paying someone who is investing a lot of time into it and I look at it just like buying a painting. It is someone’s art work. I enjoy looking at the pieces myself the same way someone would viewing original art pieces.

    By the rail greaser, is that an insulated rail joiner or a weather related wide gap in the rail?

      It is an insulated joint separating the power districts.

    • @SeaboardCentral

      Not on SC units. I model the year 2015 and PTC wasn’t mandated on the class 1 lines until 2016 so I have a couple of NS units with it since it was new.
