That was a fantastic video!! I am deathly afraid of the ocean but videos like this show me things aren't as bad as I think in there. I was amazed at how tame that stingray was. After the Steve Irwin incident, I was beginning to think that those things attack if u got too close to them. U showed me otherwise.
@everybodylovesdonuts not to mention that Erwin loved to show off bullying the animals. I snorkel and dive surrounded by stingrays and I've never have had any unpleasant encounter, but true, I don't pull them all around. In this video Emophiliac is being very gentle and not risking any dangerous outcome. You can gently touch both eels and stingrays provided they approach you first. Don't ever try to touch them if they are not aware of your presence of if they are acting aggressively.
this is so cool, i was there in '98 too. i have similar footage of the eel and stingray. but my footage is still on VHS tape, don't know if its still workin, i dun even own a VHS player...
@mithrandyr89 No, they are quite gentle and those at Stingray City are so used to people that greet you as puppies. Of course you have to be cautious but not afraid.
@shrapnel200 Morays aren't poisonous but could be aggressive at times. Timming matters. The same applies to stingrays. The Crocodile Hunter always treated animals roughly for the sake of showing off. Actually the surprise is he didn't have a major accident before the one that costed him his life.
@GerardoOchoa I've only run into Stingrays on the bottom a few times. The most interesting time was in the Galapagos, when I got lost and the visibility was really poor. I think that's why I was able to swim up to within 10 feet or so of a couple of large stingray. They kept their distance so I wasn't able to do anything like what is on this video.
I should mention that the stingrays go back to normal feeding patterns as soon as the food runs out. I spent plenty of time floating on the surface, watching the rays feed.
All Rays and Skates seem to enjoy having their undersides rubbed - Steve Irwin's mistake was sneaking up on one from above and behind. The Stingray only lashed out as a frightened reflex.
wow that is so beautiful. you are one lucky guy! must have been brill filming that
