I loved the aesthetic and style of this vlog! I want to go to Gay's The Word so bad that I might go to London at some point just to go there! 😂 Daunt Books sounds so cool but I feel like I would struggle to find any book I want because I would forget where the book is set 😂
hehehe thank you!! YOU DEFFO SHOULD!! I think they just have an area for each place and then just pick their fave books for that area!! they have a separate general fiction section as well!
Mrs. Pettigrew lives for a day has a movie and I watched that, but I haven't read the book. It was such a great movie though. I have always wanted to visit London and I love how we are out in the city with you. So many wonderful book stores!

Persephone Books sounds like such a unique store! This was such a fun video and now I wish I was visiting London so I could go to all these lovely shops!

(10:43) To me, limited colour palettes in GNs, especially non-fiction, help convey specific messages, especially in "Hey, Kiddo" which I had read.
(10:05) I can tell that would be the part of the shop I'd get attracted to, as I recognise various books I've heard about within my circles (but don't necessary fit my reading interests), including "Smile" (Raina Telgemeier), "Stargazing" (Jen Wang), and some books from the "Dog Man" series (Dav Pilkey).
(15:34) I wonder if you mean "different endpaper designs". Persephone Books is one of the more interesting shops you showed to me. There's a Wikipedia article for that which mentions the style in a little more detail.

Loved that Wells book you picked. I also enjoyed his books Keep the Aspidistra Flying and The Road to Wigan Pier. Trivia: Sinclair Lewis liked Wells so much that he named his child Wells.

Because you liked Persephone Books so much, next time you're in London you should visit The Second Shelf - its this tiny independent bookshop that's tucked away and it only sells books written by women, even if they're under a pen name.

When I visited London from Australia in Dec - Jan I stayed just around the corner from Gay's The Word, I was so sad I couldn't take so many books home with me!

Persephone books is genuinely the best bookshop in London -- personal recommendation from there is Despised and Rejected by AT Fitzroy and The Call by Edith Ayrton Zangwill. Its an independent publisher with a focus on female writers - a great company to support. With Brexit and the possible financial repercussions, they're currently at risk... would really recommend checking out their website and supporting them that way if you can't get to the shop in London!

2020 has been a tough year for the Caribbean with a 6,4 earthquake. But we are in the recovery stage now. Where I live the damages were minor. But still it was scary.
I heard amazing things about Laura D! I’ve been meaning to get more into graphic novels as well! Skoob Books..... amazing. That’s all
Is it just in germany that books (new books, used not included😅) have to be the same price everywhere? Well the booksshops don't have to pay the same price, I think larger bookshops get them cheaper if the buy many copies, but they all have to sell them for the same exact price. On the one hand it's good because you can go whereever and be sure to not pay more than you have to and also go more often to independent book shops, on the other hand independent book shops will not get the same money as big ones (because they had to pay more for the copies).
Oh wow it’s deffo not like that here! Amazon is cheaper than waterstones which is cheaper than independent bookstores!!
Persephone books is permanently closed in London. I did see something about a store in Bath so maybe they relocated?

This was stunning! I love these shop with me type of bookstore hauls. Also, what type of mic were you using? It did a really good job of noise-cancelling and really focusing on just you. I'd love to look into it because I'm sick of using just my phone mic haha
Thank you so so much!! It’s a zoom mic! They don’t make the one I have anymore bc I bought it in like 2013/14 but they have ones that are similar! I did edit some of the audio on premiere pro tho bc some had some popping sounds and wind noise!

But to be honest, the service at independent shops in my experience is poor, they never reply to email enquiries and are dreadfully slow as if their business is not under any threat at all.
Try to call up/email and order a book and you'll see.
Now I do visit indy shops like Daunt, but I then order from Amazon.
