Luca and Alberto's design is beautiful when they jum into the water, their marine creature form is beautiful, the girl's father looks like the boy's father from the short film La Luna

A positive, non-mafia-related, non-exclusively-food-related, non-overly-stereotyped Italian representation in an American film set in a beautiful seaside town of the Italian Riviera? Nice. The animation also reminds me of Chicken Run.
Me watching the trailer: -Hm, a story about an Italian boy's summer vacation, Ok -Animation looks nice -But this is a Pixar movie, there must be a genius twist *boy turning into a sea moster* -Ok, that's what I'm here for!
I kinda like that the actual twist is the boys are [seemingly] monsters disguising as humans, rather than humans who got magically turned into monsters and needing to find a way to get back to normal.
I've watched this 6 times already. I spent my childhood and teen years going to italy and making friends and magical memories that i still have today. My son's name is Luca and i plan on giving him those same experiences. I'm 39 and a movie trailer is bringing tears to my eyes.
Good quality talent working on the modeling/texturing plus access to a render farm utilizing renderman which is their native technology for high quality rendering.
Over 30 years of Renderman improvements But that aside, Pixar always seems to push a level of art that other CG animation studios don’t even try to match
They use render farms and they basically have a lot of computers rendering each frame at super high settings on very complex lighting and physics. They also look good because the art direction is amazing, lol.
As a Italian girl, this trailer put a smile on my face because it felt so good to see a movie about us! No I don’t live in Italy but I have there traditions! Great job Pixar the Italians are proud!
I'm stealing this joke, but: 1995: what if toys had feelings? 2001: what if monsters had feelings? 2015: what if feelings had feelings? 2021: what if Italians had feelings? In all seriousness, though, this looks interesting. Very nice animation!

Luca Summary: Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water's surface.

The movie is produced by an italian animation studio, in Genoa, Liguria, in north west of the country. It's an original movie because many foreigners didnìt know the differencies between south and north Italy, and this movie will show ligurian culture (which is Gallo.Italic, so it has many inheritance from celtic culture) and as i understand to some interviews the plot will talk about the folklore of the sea creatures of Ligurian sea. I hopre also that they are going to use some words of ligurian language, which is a bit different from standard italian.

That’s an amazing story!
Your comment is bringing tears to my eyes. Best of luck to your Luca, sounds like he'll grow up just fine
Why are Pixar movies so high quality graphics 🥰
Idk
Enormous budget
Good quality talent working on the modeling/texturing plus access to a render farm utilizing renderman which is their native technology for high quality rendering.
Over 30 years of Renderman improvements
But that aside, Pixar always seems to push a level of art that other CG animation studios don’t even try to match
