@@Jogwheel Nice!! I don't know what your plans are for RUclips now that you're back, maybe it's just fun, but: You know your microwave series was one of the best on RUclips at the time. A few years after you ended it, MrBeast did a few microwaving videos himself that were some of his first "big" (100k+) hits. They were more like a whole season of what you did in one episode., or like your grand finale propane tank when he grilled a microwave. You shot the propane tank and he exploded the microwave LOL. Definitely will be checking out more of your videos soon!
Great review(s)! I always enjoy your movie reviews! Now quick question that is not related to any Dune, what is the worst movie that you watched last year that you may be willing to do a movie night review of?
Hey, I just found you today on one of your science videos (cooking a toy dinosaur in a microwave) and now I notice you also do movie reviews. Way cool! This show is really well made. I can tell you put tons and tons of work into everything you do. I admire that. Truth be told, I'm passionate about a great many things but....I'm not sure if I can commit enough to make something of them other than just a little bit of fun. I loved the random footage of Mario in Tubular, that level everyone loves to hate from old-school Mario.
Good to see that you're still fresh when it comes to reviewing movies, including the famous Dune franchise. When it comes to suggestions, Jonathan, even though I remember hearing you're not a big fan of anime, I still believe you should cover movies from the iconic Studio Ghibli as even if you're not a fan of the Japanese animation style, they're still really great movies with beautiful animation and captivating stories, whether it be Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to their more recent entry, The Boy and the Heron.
The one big issue I have is Villeneuve's first Dune movie attitude to "the movie is designed for IMAX". Sure I get going for the best possible quality will give the best quality movie for the people who has the option to see it on IMAX. But at the same time it feels and more specifically sound, like it is specifically made sound unintelligible for people who aren't able to see it in any other way tan a laptop screen. There's no reason why every dialogue, full of dense lore should be whispered in stead of spoken out. Luckily part two so a lot better in terms of articulation.
I consider Dune (1984) to be a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s technically not good but it’s so quotable and goofy that I have a lot of fun with it, plus it has an incredible cast and soundtrack by TOTO
It's easily the most interesting. It's just taking huge risks in every part of the production. Having now immersed myself in Dune all week, I'm tempted to watch the 3 hr extended cut of the 1984 version, and see how it compares. Should be easier to follow since I know the story so well now.
In a world where film reviews have basically become hate-watch fueled shitposting, the nuanced, reasonable, and well articulated critiques of Jon Paula are a sight for very sore eyes. Welcome back buddy, I missed ya.
