  • Most Christians know of Jonathan Edwards and may have heard a quote or two of his. And they’ve been encouraged to read his writings. But he’s really hard to read. So getting help from George Marsden a great historian and biographer is key. This podcast digs into Edwards and what Marsden helps us see clearly.

Beware the subtleties of Calvinism- “I turn with loathing from the god of Jonathan Edwards” - George MacDonald
Why did Lewis’ “master” say this?
Because (bottom line) Edwards believed that God would be perfectly just in sending babies to an eternal hell….
If that doesn’t disturb you- then something is deeply wrong with your “moral compass”
I will not (knowingly) eat from the fruit of a poisoned tree (though I acknowledge that Edwards could write exquisitely when focused on the true glories of God - e.g. his sermons on “charity”…)

Not an Edwards fan at all.
