    Why are people so uncomfortable with the fact that someone can actually like being single?
    Leave them alone! They don't want to be "set up", they are not lonely, and maybe they won't ever meet "that special someone"(bad news: not everybody does).
    Imo, you have it made. Travel the country in your RV with your cat.. your time, your way, your rules, and nobody bitching at you for leaving the seat up. Enjoy it!

      The best thing you can do is adopt another dog. I learned a long time ago that when I lost one of my dogs after 19 years of having him with me I almost gave up as far as having another animal. Then one day I went to bark in Houston Texas and there was a small, well he was never small, dog who was 3 months old. I adopted him and he is one of the best dogs I have ever had and it has helped me with the pain that I felt when Bear died.

    First thing I want to say is my wife and I have been living in a motorhome for 11 years and we encounter people asking the same questions of us. We have camped in 49 states and 6 Canadian provinces and look forward to every day on the road.
    Now for a long reply, which I am putting here I feel others need to read my thoughts. If you put out such a thoughtful video, you deserve thoughtful comments.
    Those with worries about new places, road safety, etc., are projecting their own worries your way. We are comfortable on the road and are not planning on settling down anytime soon. You are not alone in doing so, even if many will not do it themselves and try to talk you out of it. Many treat people who make different decisions than they do as strange or different. That is reality. Many Americans would not be in the USA (or Canada) without ancestors that traveled to new places and took risks.
    Our cat, Evita, is very friendly and will run up to people, but Jax is even friendlier. I am glad you realize how lucky you are to have Jax in your life. Funny how some just have to say something about Jax's weight or the declawing. As interactive as Jax is, I am sure he could really put up a fuss if you tried to feed him less.
    There are woman out there who love to travel in an RV and see new places. There are some of those that will boondock/dry camp a lot. My wife is not one of them, she will boondock if needed, but prefers full hookups. Luckily, we can afford them and I am willing to stay in full hookups without whining. Once you bring someone else into your life, decisions become joint and that changes everything. If you can't work it out, you should not be together. You are lucky, you do well alone, as I did before I met my wife. Many seem to need a partner, and they get stressed just dealing with people who can live alone.
    It is really sad that you can't tell people detailed plans on where you are going and if you want to stay a while, where you are. I understand and I know you don't like it. Those people need to get a life, but for such, that is how they choose to live.
    There is so much to see and experience in the southern USA that you will enjoy your trip. No matter where you go.
    Financing a new to you RV? Definitely a decision only you can make. You are the one who can estimate how much money you will be out maintaining what you have, including the time delays as you deal with issues. Will this cost more than a newer RV, only you can estimate. A newer RV might be more reliable, but will not be without problems. People have been forced off the road by major repairs costing more than they have, But others have been forced off by not being able to pay their loan.
    We share a home town and I hope we can share more next summer when we should both be back there. You do a much better job of making videos than most, and you keep them interesting. Keep it up.

    I got my dog the same way you got Jax, he picked me. I rescued him from a shelter when he was only 6 weeks old. From that day on, he was my child. I lost him July 2014 but he had lived a long healthy happy 13 years with me.

    That cat really loves you, that is obvious. I love cats as they are low maintenance. Unlike dogs they do not stink and make your hands etc smell like that awful doggy smell every time they sweat. I had a schnauzer once for 15 yrs but now I don't want to own anymore dogs. Cats can kind of take care of themselves if they have to. I did not want any pets as I found out I'm allergic to them and for awhile I didn't own any and I've not had so much as a cold since. But one day a starving cat came to my door so I fed her and she stayed outside. Then I found out she was pregnant and she had 3 lovely kittens. 2 boys and 1 girl. That was the first time I brought the mama cat inside my house. Winter was coming & I knew those kittens would not survive out in the woods where I live in the elements. Long story short, we are a happy family. They all have their own personalities and they love me and each other. I had them all fixed and shots, etc. So all are healthy and happy. Everyone of them are funny, loving, mind me like a dog. Sometimes we all sleep in a cat pile, haha. Most the time one or two stretch out on my bed beside me. Or sleep on the couch with their mother. But I know what you mean about your cat being special and choosing you. It's a special bond and pets are like people. They have feelings, can love you and need love. They are smarter than some people give them credit for. My cats go in and out and love outside very much but all I have to do is stick my head out and yell "TREAT" OR "LUNCH" and they come running! LOL. Two even love to jump up & turn the light/ceiling fan on and off. They jump really high and grab the strings with both paws. Seems like if one learns something they all learn it. They are amazing & surely bring joy to my life. =)

    I need a woman in my life about as much as I need a broken leg on the side of a mountain. Ive been single through choice for 6 years. Its the reason I can leave my motorcycle dismantled on the floor for as long as I want. Its the reason I can live my life unanswerable to anyone. But most importantly, Its the reason I can now choose the RV life when I want to. Freedom and Joy.

    Thanks, Eric, for sharing your thoughts with us. I've been following your vlog almost since the beginning and your character is coming through, whether you realize it or not, and here's what I see: you're fundamentally a decent man with morals and a conscience. Every man needs to test himself and have an adventure in his life and this is your time. You're wise not to be romantically entangled. This is the time to discover yourself. Love the relationship you have with Jax. You're right; it is unusual and special. Enjoy every day with him. He's a once-in-a-lifetime companion. If you're a reader may I suggest, "Wild At Heart"? You might like it. I guess I have to add a 'warning' these days; it has a Christian perspective, but it's great, nevertheless. One question: any way we can report negative or profane comments? I'm really sick of them. They defile this really great channel.

    My cat sleeps with me in EXACTLY the same way! Forget about financing. Yes, eventually you'll move up to a newer RV, however your income will have to be firmly established before you would qualify for financing, and even then you'll need a big down payment. Your mobile lifestyle without a bricks and mortar address will probably disqualify you. What you want is an elderly person who will sell their RV and take payments with a good down payment. Some of these fellas already tricked out and made repairs, so you can get a solid RV. You are on the right track, just premature, and you already know that. Don't go against your own advice. Save up and pay cash.

    love the videos and the tips. has helped me a lot in my Rv. My cat travels with me. Although she is 9yrs old to old I'm afraid to leash train so she has to stay inside all the time. I can't do anything without her. We play a lot and I brush her every morning and night. I also pulled out most of the carpet. Cat hair hard to control. She has long hair. Her name is Mimi she is the best part of my day. I was sad that small people in their small worlds have nothing better to do than hurt others. They must be in a lot of pain so they take it out on other people. Know there are people that care. Keep going.

    FYI I'm a cat and dog owner. Had two cats on indoors and one who you couldn't keep indoors - would run out like an Olympic sprinter as soon as the door was opened - 2 months after owning this cat - I had to pick up her remains from the road outside the property - she was hit by a vehicle. I still have the indoor cat and of course the dog who I take for walks and has the use of the back yard. You're doing the right think with reference to Jax -keep him indoors or you will lose him to other wildlife or a vehicle accident. ATB

    Loved the video. Cats acclimate to their home/territory. If someone moves and they immediately put the cat out it will often become disoriented and try to return to their previous home. In the veterinary world we advise leaving them inside for 2 weeks so they can acclimate to their new location. Very wise move to keep Jax on his harness....

A man that likes cats has a good heart and generally doesn't have a controlling personality. Cats are independent and dogs are dependent. I've had the family Lab and loved her for 13 yrs, cats are just easier..😊 I look forward to watching your videos, thanks for the inspiration. Funny thing, I had a Mainecoon (sp) and one of his T was still inside of him, he had to have surgery also. And yes, never change who you are for someone else.

    it's really great to see people having some cats out there and not just dogs : )
    off topic but something that might be important/helpful... i had a kitty who was a big boy like jax and it turned out that it wasn't natural - was caused by the food he was on.
    grain-free is a MUST as kitties aren't actually built to digest grains and some are very sensitive to it. can cause excess weight, shedding, health issues ($$ vet bills). also, the quality of the food. aside from the grain issue, a lot of brands use meat byproducts, not good stuff for our kitties.
    * some good brands you might check into for wet and dry* are wellness, canidae and under the sun, all of which petco carries. they have decent ingredients, are grain free, and have less fillers and additives. another also - getting kitties to be primarily on the wet food is better for them.
    just wanted to share as making these changes make my kitty:
    - drop to a normal 16lbs (at one point he was 25!!!)
    - go from a shedding MACHINE to a very very light shedder
    - made his coat super extra nice
    - huge decrease in stinky poo in the box
    - he was a lot healthier, less need for the vet!
    making the changes can extend a kitty's life. watching you with jax is so sweet, i'd like for you to have that as long as possible. hope you consider looking into this. keep up the great vids!!!!!!!

    Not allowing a cat out of an RV is one thing, but to behave like a cat is supposed to live its life in a small space or on a leash is cruel to me. I have had cats that have all gone outside, and so has my family, all cats that were healthy, happy and lived long lives.One of them we had since I was very young and lived to be almost 20. It is not safe to have an obese cat, that will cause death due to health issues, letting a cat roam will cut down on its obesity, and allow them to do what is natural to them.

    • @nomadicfanatic
      @nomadicfanatic  9 лет назад +6

      That's what I'm saying. I don't have the ability to leave my cat's life up to fate outside the RV. Call me cruel for raising him and RV and forcing him to stay on leash outside. I'm doing the best I can, I just love him too much.

      Don't worry about it Erik. Jax doesn't know any different and it's obvious he's happy. In this day and age, unless you live in the country all cats are house cats. It's only irresponsible owners that let there cats out side to crap in little kids sandboxes and kill song birds. Incidentally, my cat Brewster lived to be 26 years old and he was at least as fat as jax. :)

      Nomadic Fanatic Trust me dude Jax doesn't know the difference anyways he is a cat who is attached to you, he loves you and spending time with you. Animals don't know the difference as long as they are loved and taken care of, and you walk him so that's enough outside time he needs to get some sun and air.

    You are very fortunate to have a cat that so adores you. I had a big grey and white cat that tipped the scale at 25 lbs. ( the cats name was Tubby ) he was my best buddy as well and I'm still heart broken and miss him since he went to kitty heaven almost a year ago, heart issues that were no doubt brought about from his weight took him. Like Jax he was a big kitty but the vet said he should weigh in closer to 15 lbs. Getting a cat to diet is like putting sox on a rooster, pretty tough. When it comes to food he wouldn't take no for an answer. I too love dogs and my old hound dog is with me constantly when I'm not at work but there is a certain ease to living with a cat. They aren't as needy which sometimes a big plus.
    I totally understand the draw of the freedom and adventure of the open road and I hear the call all the time, but at this time I can't scratch that itch so now, like many others, we go with you. I have an old van that I take off in from time to time and I plan to much more when I retire. A trip around the U.S. And exploring Alaska are on my bucket list. Until then I'll have to ride along with you two. Thanks for taking us on your adventures.
    Happy New Year!
    John

    I enjoyed this long video, Eric. Like a good conversation with a friend.
    I lost my one kitty, Mr. Kitty, by letting him go outside on his own. He would always come back, but he kept staying out longer, fending for himself more, and eventually he chose the wild over the inside. So sad.
    Not impossible to find a good lady to share your RV lifestyle. Just look at Chris Travels and Gone with the Wynns on RUclips. Of course, finding that one special lady who, 1. you want to spend your life with, and 2. would happily live in an RV with you, is going to be the challenge.
    Would definitely like to see you upgrade to a newer, bigger motorhome. Your stealth camping might be affected a bit if you moved up to a Class A, though. Financing is not a deal breaker. You know your income, and can choose a deal that fits your budget. There are plenty of good, used motorhomes on the market.
    All the best to you, sir, as you continue on your adventure!

    Oh and ignore the so called cat and companion relationship experts that post here - they have weird misconceptions of animal care and are only envious of what you're doing. Have you considered sending a portfolio of your videos to one or more of the major TV channels such as the Discovery Channel [DC] to see if they will sponsor you - that way you could purchase outright a new RV? - You could set it up as a travel log/diary - perhaps from a Jax perspective - where it could be a school educational series of videos. You were great interviewing some of the other individuals at that cesspit called Slab City - perhaps further interviews of others living the RV lifestyle might interest DC - ATB

    great story about jax. declawed ? I have had multiple cats in my life and some were declawed and some not. it depends on where we lived (house/apartment) mainly if they went outside a lot they kept their claws. indoors most of the time they got declawed. I feel like it is a situational thing. pets are family. on the road jax must be on a leash. ** lonely ? you got your RUclips peeps.

    Just food for thought when financing a RV and being nomadic like yourself. I don't know if it would have anything to do with the amount you finance. Banks seem to take issue when financing an RV that someone lives in only because they may be hard to track down for payments in the future. From my understanding it's not impossible but it may be something you need to consider.

    Eric shop around at the pound I just got my first dog last year he was around 6 when I adopted him he was turn key perfect. He loves car rides gets along great with my cats (not so much with random cats) was house broken from before I got him easy to train and passes for a service dog as I don't like leaving him in the car ever he doesn't bark unless its an emergency he will even break up my two cats with his nose if they fight. If you get a puppy you will have alot more training finding an older dog that has already learned and knows who he is makes finding a dog alot easier. I love my dog and wish I had only got one sooner... 2 walks a day minimum isn't alot to do either its fun you get to go out and see nature he is basically on my schedule for #2 but he does have to pee threw out the day. Find a place where when you adopt a dog its not just a pay & leave place find a place where when you say yes I want to adopt the dog you have to come and do a minimum of 3 visits over 3 weeks so you know its the right match. Its what I did even tho I went everyday.

    Have never watched this and glad I did. It’s all cool Eric and really enjoyed the story of you and Jax. I had a 15 pound tabby named Bunker who was an outside cat. Would come in for naps but loved being outside more. He was a tough guy and normally would chase any dogs out of the yard. Always brought me his kills too. Lost him a couple of years ago to his old age. Good story and good luck with the ladies. When it’s right it will happen. You gave it a great effort with last time with Andrea so no worries. The only way to truly be free of the system many of us hate is to live out in the woods like Survivorman. No bills. No fees. No interest rates. There are only a very very small percentage of people who could or who would want to do that. We will always be slaves to the system and money in some way or another. Even homeless people who beg for money are slaves to the system. They need money to live. It sucks. But thats the way it is and will always be.

    • @antiratrace
      @antiratrace 9 лет назад +4

      True. Thinking that you can (or would want to) completely detach yourself from the system is unrealistic for most people. That said, reducing your dependence on said system is completely attainable. Humans are social by nature, and IMO a wise person will take advantage of the conveniences of modern society without letting "the system" control them, rather than trying to completely leave society and "live out in the woods like Survivorman" as you put it.
      It boils down to finding a suitable balance between how much time you spend obtaining enough money to live comfortably, versus how much free time you have to enjoy your time on this planet. The work/pay/free time balance will be different for everyone, based on their desired standard of living and personal comfort levels.

    • @157papabear
      @157papabear 9 лет назад +4

      But Eric isnt either free OR unplugged. He asks for money, either directly or indirectly and needs to use things like power and wifi that he has to go find. The solar panel works to a degree but he has other power and fuel needs that still ties him to society. He may be at a different level than most, but he still isnt free from the rat race. For a time I was a detractor of his and used words like fraud to describe him. But that is just my opinion and that opinion has changed. He is trying to live free, but he will never really attain that. Very very few of us will ever attain that. If nothing else, when he is old and gray, he will have some great stories and a video document of those times. I think it is unlikely he will always live this life. But no onw knows.

      I was a homeless man, I never begged for money then. I grabbed an old hammer and some boards and fixed up a miner's shanty nobody wanted. All I wanted was to be left alone. That only lasts so long. I lived there for 4 1/2 years before the police forced me out, tore the place down. If we're all slaves, then I'd say life is a penitentiary here. You stick me in a school one day, tell me how things work and how free we are but realize they've been telling lies to you from day one. What's the usual excuses, meds to keep you dull, reserve notes with dead Presidents on them and a Cuisinart, homes with white walls and picket fences and perfectly clipped lawns and potted plants with no scent. Pitiful fake bunch of BS on television, cold comforts and ideals that went by the wayside a long time ago. My views about it haven't changed in 40 years. I don't know how others wake up one day and change their minds, and say this and that they force us to have makes life enjoyable. I don't know how you do that. I'd like to know. If I get any enjoyment, 9 out of 10 I came up with that enjoyment myself.
      I do find a solemn truth in all this though. The system is going to kick itself in its own ass one day. It's coming. It can only suck off the energy of people only so long before it collapses. And yeah I guess I do beg for money now in a way. I go around in bars playing guitar in a band few people care about. Can't think of anymore to say so I'll stop.

    • @intellectual32
      @intellectual32 9 лет назад +5

      Listen people you want to get a head start on giving the system something to remember? Take ALL YOUR MONEY out of the banks! It doesn't mater what you do with it, you can throw it in the furnace for all I care, just take it all out. It's worth nothing anyway because in reality it's all a debt scam.
      As soon as you do that, the system is going be forced to comply to US. Because it was always meant to work for US, not us working for them. That's what we've all forgot! Break the bank and suddenly we call the shots! Oh they'll try to make a deal here and there with you when the SHTF for them, it's bullshit.
      And plant some damn fruits and veggies out there! Learn a trade, ride a bicycle. My God. How do you all today think our ancestors got by when the dust bowl hit, how do you think they got by when there were less states in the country and the population growing? They didn't have all this money! One doctor was in town for everybody! And most of all, they had to lend and hand and help each other. A sense of REAL community and that's what we need to start doing more and more every day! Not this aptheitc way of life where a purse gets snatched and we all just walk along like taking all the bad with the good, that kind of thinking is what's wrong!
