I saw a video of one of these being prepared to eat.
It seemed very cruel and unnecessary,
But then Chinese are all about delicacies aren't they.
Do these snails help protect coral in some way?

There is a sea star called crown of thorns that eats coral and if there is a bloom of them the reef can be significantly damaged which has happened. A primary predator of the crown of thorns is the triton’s trumpet. If they are removed from the reef for food or their shells then the reef can suffer.
