Even though the plaintiff noticed there was no license number after she signed the contract, he still tried to accommodate her, but it wasn't good enough. Glad he got to keep the $900.

Was also funny that her friend no longer worked for/with him due to her drinking, but I think I heard her say that one of the conditions was that she be able to work again..lol.
Like the plaintiff was doing him a favor by allowing him to help her out...did I hear it correctly?

Her whole complaint about his not having a license was a ruse. She was trying to help her friend make some money, and when defendant said he didn't want friend working with him because she's a drunk, plaintiff changed her mind. Simple as that. Glad he won.

My boyfriend has a friend who is in real estate and his friend actually contracts my boyfriend out to paint houses for folks all the time. He is not license or bonded and he assumes all medical liability. So he signs a contract that if he gets hurt on the job he will not sue the homeowners. He also signs stating that he will be responsible for any damage that may happen that is HIS fault. But other then that he paints the houses and he does it professionally and he is amazing at it and makes good money doing so. You do not have to be licensed to paint houses. You can be but you do not have to be. It is cheaper for the homeowners this way and we have never had a problem with any of the houses he has painted. Honestly the homeowners are always happy with his work. So it all works out in the end. But this lady here seems fishy to me.... something just feels off by the way she was looking behind her computer as to have non verbal communication with someone (probably her friend) while in court and idk her story .... it feels like she was setting this man up for a lawsuit all along. Anyways I am happy he prevailed for sure and didn't have to repay this woman.

Wow, so the plaintiffs friend stops working as a subcontractor for the defendant, then all of a sudden, the defendant isn’t good enough to do the work he was contracted for.
It really irritates me that Marilyn was bashing unlicensed contractors. She was basically saying that unlicensed contractors workmanship is of lower quality than a licensed contractor because they don’t care, they don’t take pride in their work. That’s such BS. Sure some unlicensed contractors do subpar work, just as some licensed contractors do subpar work. I know some unlicensed contractors, such as myself, who’s workmanship is at the level off quality as many licensed contractors, if not better. 90% of my work comes from referrals. That speaks volumes. I can and often times do charge just as much as a licensed contractor for my work because of the quality. My customers have never had an issue with that. I am currently going through the process of obtaining my GC license, but in the mean time, I stay busy because I care about my work and I take pride in it. I treat every job as if I’m doing the work on my own home. It was very wrong of Marilyn to group all licensed contractors above all unlicensed contractors. It’s just like every other field. There are people that are good at their job and take pride in it, and others that just show up to collect a check.

I had a very good reputation and still do today. I still do a little on the side not allot and do good work, maybe 3 or 4a year but I'm also a certified mechanic and do more of that on the side.

Listening to the defendants voice, I would say the defendant is too old and should retire. He’s not young and it would be painful for him to do all that work.
The deposit was to pick up the supplies. He should see if he can return them and give the money back to the plaintiff. The deposit wasn’t a nonrefundable deposit for the defendant to start the job.
Licensed painter? No such thing. However , make sure the painter is experienced , or he’ll make the place worse off after painting than if it was never painted at all. Sorry for the newbees, but that is the truth.
