Relatively new player here, really appreciate guides like this provide up to date lessons on the basics for people who might not know them. Thank you for your hard work.
2:18 in Statistics, it's called standard deviation which is the average distance from the mean (sigma is the symbol) where the numbers show the probability of a dataset landing in between that range in a normal distribution. The middle (center) is the mean average (u symbol), where each standard deviation adds more confidence. The mean is the middle 50%, where adding one standard deviation goes to 68ish% confidence. Adding two goes to about 95%, and adding three goes to about 99ish% afaik Just noting for those wanting a quick rundown.

@@senpai_silent yeah, just wanted to point out where this came from I'm finally starting to figure out how to aim in wows after watching your vid just started this week!
Quick, simple and well explained video Great job, now will stop firing 50 shells without 20 being non pen and 20 being ricochet That's one of my problems with wows, game doesn't have a tutorial to explain these things, my experience as a new player was awful, needed to watch a lot of videos to understand the game
I'm planning on making more vids like this if this series will prove to be successful. Including both beginner level and more advanced vids. :) Always happy to help.
I haven't played the game for over 3 years now and just about to return back to the game and this video really helps me dust off my rusty basic skills... thanks...
Oh my god thats what the aim lines are for?! TIME?! I’ve been using pure instinct to aim and tbh I’ve done shockingly good with that giving that i have no idea what im doing
Is it still a thing that you can also aim quite good when putting the circle-dot in the minimap just right before enemy ship? I use minimap-aiming a lot on big big distances or angles
minimap helps with tracking enemy movements but do not depend on it 100 since rn minimap "updates" with small delay (you can notice that by seeing it as not smooth) i personally use it to sometimes blind fire at smokes and very often to see if enemy is turning in or turning out (so i can correct my offset) in the end i would say there is no dogma in aiming so experiment a bit with your method maybe it will be a way for you to aim gl there captain ^^
i m planning on making both basic and advanced guides in the future. in case of that shot 460 overmatched st. vincents 25 mm nose and shooting low enough from close distance had enough pen to make shells fly thru nose into citadel you need no advanced guide just the overmatch table and to check armor scheme of enemy ship
Thanks,@@senpai_silent . I know those overmatch things but I have big trouble shooting the turning in/out ships. Many times I wiff the shot and miss entirely. How can I improve that?
All comes with practise tbf. If enemy turns in you need to adjust aim down a bit and if out up. In both cases give a bit less offset. I recommend you to create yourself a custom game (switch gamemodes >"training battle" > create room > whatever map you like/settings etc. > add bots with ability to move but not armed (checkboxes when adding a bot) > pick ship you wanna practise with) then fire at them and see what happens. I hope it will help you. And dw if you miss, we can all improve ourself but sometimes RNG will say no.
Press on the gamemodes near "Battle button" -> on very bottom there should be "training battle" button-> from there you can select a game already created by someone or create your own in the bottom right corner You can make that game private so noone can bother you or you can invite others to play. You can select maps and gamemodes, add bots in both teams and select if they will shoot back (armed) or if they can move.
Not long been playing the game. Just unlocked a tier 6 ship and didnt even realise i could lock on to improve my aim. Ive been shooting 16-20km each time. No fucking wonder only 2/3 of my guns hit. Jesus... full noob mode activated
Good for you that you realised your mistakes and now i believe you will be able to perform much better. ;) If you have some questions feel free to ask. Always happy to help.
@@josephmccloud9456 it is part of the lock on. Lock on is coded to make your shells try to fall in an elipse that is around the target (and its path a bit) so when you go to far shells seem to drag a bit towards there. You can still use that to shoot at concealed target in a smoke or behind island by locking on a spotted ship nearby. But you need take into account the shells will try to go more towards the target.(and ofc that island still can block them)
the spread of high tier BB's is honestly really dumb, especially for the Iowa and Montana. they have superior targeting and firing systems, that they should be dotting ships from a distance without a massive shot spread.
WG took only small note on that by making those ships (Vermont and Louisianna lines included) have special unique upgrades in 3rd and 6th slot AND by montana line having cruiser sigma value but that is it sadly as a fun fact i can say that once there was an event with special ships and one based on iowa had ability to get pixel perfect accuracy for 2 salvos (it set dispersion to 0 m )
Last time they tried "fixing" BBs it backfired horribly. (google Deadeye meta in WoWs for more info) I`m certain WG is unable to make this kind of change right now so it won't backfire.... In my opinion US BBs are more then fine in terms of gun accuracy in their current state. (under 300 meters on 27 km + is better then yamato) The hard part about aiming with those BBs is very LOOONG shell travel time making those shells very easy to dodge for the enemy. And ofc the low caliber for BB on that tier is also a problem bcs of overmatch( 406 mm for tier IX and X is low as many BBs use 457+) To sum up in one sentence. "I rather WG not to touch something that is ok so they won't make it worse".
I`m using vanilla HUD as i`m used to it. There is no need for anything special. Just pick something that won't obscure your vision too much and that is it. There is no magic tool there. From other things i would say: - change view to full (to always see bars of HP and ship names) - adjust FOV and camera height to your screen and liking ( i play on FOV 64, height 3) The key to good aim is in you. There are no magic settings that will do it for you. Just a lot of practice. I believe you can do it. ^^ You should believe in yourself too.
Shell arc depends on the ship you play. For example US ships and most of the destroyers have that property that when you shoot on long distances the shells fly very high. The fix to that is: - either fight on closer distances to minimize that - make extra predictions to compensate for the effect (requires a lot of practice) - or just play ships with more flat shell arcs (for example russian ships such as petropavlovsk have very flat flying shells) But in the end all shells will work like that. This is how naval artillery works and we cannot change that. Look at the bright side. It allows you to shoot over and from behind islands.
Hi, thanks for the aiming guide, but what about aiming an angled target ? And does the brackets on the crosshair apply for every distances ? I saw some people mods their crosshair so that the brackets changed when the distance of the target changed.
I have decided to leave more complicated aiming for more advanced video in the future but i will tell you. Angled target require you to analize your gun overmatch and their armor. (If you overmatch you don't care you just try to hit, if you don't either shoot thru superstructure by aiming a bit higher or switch to HE) Brackets apply for every distance other then point blank as sometimes this can become weird... The mod for dynamic crosshair is for pure personal comfort purposes as it can give you more brackets to adjust aim with but you can totally play with static one of your choice and still perform as good. GL m8 and if you have any further questions just ask.
Please explain. When I use lock it only works on stationary ships. It fires at where the ship is when firing. Does lock only work on stationary targets?
Lock on is automatic and works on any ship regardless of its movement. Only two things that play a part there is: -is the ship visible (you cannot lock on ships thru cyclone for example) -is the ship in your main guns range Locking on does not mean you cannot move your aiming reticle. It is just reducing disperion against that ship and makes your camera follow it for easier aiming.
maybe you should as well tell people about mods, like nomrod dynamic cross which is way better to get the lead right, since the standart one is also fixed for a distance not only time
I did not really wanted to bring up modifications to the game in a guide meant mostly for those who just started playing. Personally i like my game virgin... I mean vanilla. ;) xD The standard cross works at any distance (in my 11k+ games i have not noticed it didn't) having the mod is just a matter of preferance in my opinion the only situations when i see true benefits of that is shooting at target that needs 18 seconds and more prediction which means it is either moving really fast or being far away (or both) thus leading to almost certain miss on top of being very rare situation to begin with.
@@senpai_silent i play a lot of dd and BB so travel times of 12+ seconds come often. the dynamic crossair makes it simply easier to compensat then, at least for the first salvo, of course with practise and experience you dont need it. but specially new players can benefit from it, specially since you get two dialings for 30 knots and 20 knots at the same time.
