Possibly an Eastern Red Water Snake, I used to catch them as a kid. The "charcoal" was bituminous, or, soft coal, likely a seam nearby or the fuel remnants of a steam engine that was once nearby.

Very nice home state, Sarah! We were right there in Mckee! 😂 We had not heard much about Kentucky so this was a pleasant surprise. So much to explore without the tourist. I think we did drive through horse country...giant houses with large green pastures and fancy fences? We took the back roads and had a great time looking at the farms and the style of the houses.
We missed you by a week. We just got home from a three day trip and our JoJo would have loved to meet Roodles. Interesting fact about the creek. Just down from the campsite the creek drops thru a hole and flows underground for about a mile. A local told me that years ago, before the hole enlarged, there was a whirlpool where the water dropped into the hole.

Thanks for the snake info! It scared me while I was getting my underwater shots. I turned around and it swam right by the camera.... when I followed it downstream ie took a defensive stance on top of the water as if to say “back off” and I did!!!
@@oneadVANtureatatime Beware of Cotton Mouths, Copperheads and Eastern Diamond Back Rattle snakes....interesting fact about rattle snakes, they don't always rattle before they bite either...I would advise you to brush up on First Aid for snake bites and get an anti-venom kit if you can afford one...especially in those areas where there are no cell coverage. Even non-poisonous snakes can make you sick from the bacteria in their mouths, so at least have a first aid kit and hydrogen peroxide available to clean those kinds of bites.

Did you guys get an underwater drone? Very cool footage! Roodle is in heaven and all is right in the OneadVANture world! Safe travels!
Thank you! We also liked the underwater shots! They turned out so cinematic! I used our GoPro 7 attached o a floating handle. It floated perfectly downstream with the natural current.
Roodle LOVED this spot!!
I really enjoy your vibe. It seems like *you*, not trying to seem some way. Roodle going to bed was ADORBZ. I really appreciate that underwater footage. Is that your sensibilities, Kerry? Great job on the trash man. Look forward to the next video. Cheers guys.
Thank you! What you see is what you get.... sometimes I think we must be so boring! I love underwater shots but this time I mounted the GoPro to a floating handle and sent it downstream! The result was done epic cinematic underwater footage.... I was a happy girl!!
Another great camping spot, There's nothing like a beautiful creek for skipping rocks--fun! Again, thank you for being such good stewards of the land.
We are so grateful for these free beauties that we don’t mind picking up trash! Not that we enjoy it😂 but we are happy to help in clean up! I’ll never understand how people enjoy such beauty and then trash it though🤷♀️
Close. I’m pretty sure it was a rat snake. Similar markings to rattler but not venomous. Nice campsite. Cheers from Canader eh!
They don’t have to be venomous…they can give me a heart attack just being within eyesight {shudders}.
Wonderful breakfast meal. Watched this morning and had to make it. Keep up the good work. Your recipes are very good. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much! I am surprised how good this gravy is!!
Hey Y'all !! (as we say in KY) Great video, especially enjoyed the underwater shots. I live up the road a bit (2 hrs), never heard of this place, but looks like a great place to van camp. Who' da thought , free USFS places to camp, this side of the Mississippi! I checked in your content and the comments, but saw no mention of your great site number... Do you mind sharing? May head that way this fall, some weekday. Thanks for sharing AND cleaning up the trash... On behalf of the great Commonwealth of KY, we thank you!!
The cinematographer talents you guys have are so outstanding!
Thank you, Marley!
Me and my family go to Kentucky every spring for vacation. We camped at turkey foot. It’s a nice place and the hike to the cave is cool too
i think we might have missed the cave!
Loved the park and the underwater footage was great.
Thank you!
Love the underwater shots, thanks for sharing
Thank you! We also liked the underwater shots! They turned out so cinematic! I used our GoPro 7 attached o a floating handle. It floated perfectly downstream with the natural current.
I just now saw this. I live here in the DB. I can be there in a 10 min drive. There is a ghost story of that area that is really interesting.
I really love seeing your ad-van-tures! Looks like great fun. Kudos to you for leaving campsites better than you found them. Definitely something everyone should do. Keep traveling and sharing!!
Thank you for your kindness! 👱♂️👩🐕🎾
Great video as always and another location to add to the list. Dave is a champion Rock skipper! Thank you for cleaning up for the slackers.
Dave has always been a good rock skipper!
I love your channel. You seem like really nice folks. And you just seem like normal humans. I will keep watching, as I love the places you go!
Thank you, Chris! We hope to see you on the road sometime. 😎
Love the lullaby with Roodle going to sleep, cute! Thanks for the video!
I think that was my favorite part of this video!!
And I really love Roodle ❤
We love your channel and this video took that up a notch. The underwater video of the creek was just beautiful! Thank you for producing such awesome content.
Thank you so much! This was a fun video to do! I always love underwater photography!
I really enjoyed your video"s. Love the filming. You put a lot of positive energy in your work. Mario and Diana
That is a Common Watersnake, Nerodia sipedon.
That swim spot looked refreshing.
It was! The water was so much warmer there then here in Colorado 😂
I really enjoyed watching Roodlel play trying to retrieve skipping stones! And then that invasion into Roodle's privacy. That was pretty interesting he's a dog well rested probably dreaming about all the balls and sticks he's going to retrieve. And then the underwater seems that was really cool look like the bottom of the ocean.. how did you do that especially underwater camera so cool. Thanks for sharing a day in the park and a dog in the dark.
Thank you, Paul! Carrie floated our GoPro camera in the creek for those shots. Currently we are throwing Roodles ball in the snow and he roots around and always finds it. 😀😀😀🐕🎾
One of the best places to camp in ky
Also there are a few natural springs that have been tapped along the roads they are easy to pass up but if you need water it's clean cold limestone water nothin better
That sounds awesome! I would have loved to find one of those natural springs and filled up full! Thank you for the tip. 😎
Whatch out for rattlesnakes because they are plentiful around this area.Local resident here. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for the tip!
Around a creek there, it's a Copper Headed Water Mocasin...
Great vid y'all, and nice area. Never been on that creek, appreciate the share. Ty'all
Thank you, Will! We hope you get a chance to check it out. Locals told us there are a couple of springs in the area that are safe to drink! It would be fun to find one of those here. Take care.
Great campsite for sure. Love the creek too. Glad you care enough to clean up after others and who leaves a paint can? Like really, who does that? I’ll just assume it was accidentally forgotten 😂 great video 👍🏼
We are happy to clean up the sites we visit because we are so grateful for the opportunity to free camp there! Sometimes it seems like it is pointless but if we can inspire others to do the same just maybe we can make a difference!
Oh my, what kind of camera is that you use for the under water shots. Awesome video. I wish RUclips had a heart button.
Thank you! I used our GoPro 7 mounted to a floating handle that floated naturally downstream😃
Your videos just keep getting better! Thank you for sharing 💞
Thank you so much for watching and commenting on so many of our videos! We appreciate you!! We love this lifestyle and are honored to share it with you. 👨👩🐶🎾🦴
Omg, that Roodle sleepy-time footage was priceless! He sure did tucker himself out. Lol.
And i would be secretly looking for that blue paint in other rigs on travels..lmao
We think it was non-campers as this spot was pretty close to town.
Great music w under water video, Carrie! What did you film with? Looks like an under water drone camera-is there such a thing?
THANK YOU!!!!I do think there is such a thing as underwater drone camera.....but we cant afford that until we start working for national geographic...lol!!! I used our gopro 7 attached to a floating handle and then I just let the natural current drift it downstream.....it turned out so CINEMATIC!!! I will be using this technique in the future for sure!!
I'm a new subscriber, I'm really enjoying your video. Looking forward to watching more !! Your puppy is so adorable !! Take care and God Bless !!
Thanks for posting. I'm putting it on my list!
Great video .Thank you for picking up the trash
+Don Capito absolutely
At the very beginning of your underwater shot if you look at it a certain way it looks just like Roodle,s head underwater....!
Several people have said that! I don’t see it on my phone... time to get the laptop out and take another look!
I live in WV and ive never heard of this place , so thanks ! Just found your videos . Great job love them !
