7:37 So we're gonna forget that Sage's eyes turn blue for one frame when Amaryllis's elbow hits her? Amaryllis truly is the best magician in this show! She makes Sage's eye color change.
I genuinely have to wonder what the Hell the creators were doing for the multiple Years this series was done instead of correcting these problems. Like did no one in that time think"maybe we should double check our work"? They were given so much time to make this show at least presentable, and yet here we are.
In their delusional minds, everything they do is "automatically perfect" because questioning ANYTHING they do is somehow "offensive/misogynistic/sexist/etc". Even leading up to the show's eventual release, they tried to make it "all about themselves and their amazing team of ALL-FEMALE writers/animators" instead of the actual show itself. Poor budget or not, these errors are completely unacceptable!
To be fair (to the show's creators specifically), Crunchyroll likely didn't want to spend any more money on the show during the massive time it was being held. Having the creators come back to fix stuff would have required that Crunchyroll pay them... to fix issues with a show they already knew (or at least thought) wasn't likely going to make much money.
I wouldn't be surprised if all animation was done in one month before the release. They sound like people who was doing jack shit all the time to rush the project at the very last minute
The tall guy at 9:23 is in fact an error. He goes in front of Rose and Sage, but BEHIND Parsley. If he went in front of all three then he’s just really close, instead of super tall, maybe? I dunno _what_ they were trying to do with him.
About the poison/antidote scene there's an option C: Sage willingly let 3 students die. Judging what kind of narcisistic-chauvinistic monster she is, that's sadly a realistic option. Btw. I've seen buttons disappear on my clothing. Sadly, they did not reappear instead they took a trip to dimension x and never came back. 😀
Soo, that would imply that there are one-way portals from our dimension to dimension x, and the portals between whatever-dimension-HGS-takes-place-in and dimension x are actually 2-way portals 🤔
Rosemary: Are buttons a food? My theory is that Rosemary eats the buttons, and sometimes does so at impossible speeds, to the point it can go unnoticed by the human eye. Though, given the uniforms are magic (either made that way or because of the school), they attempt to replace them, but sometimes they are placed in the wrong spot or have too many or too few
This isn’t an animation error, just something I noticed. This show uses a technique that I like to call “Totally Spies Eyebrows.” I came up with this after growing up watching Totally Spies. It’s a way for an animated series to quickly tell the audience which characters are good guys and which characters are bad guys. It’s simple, just pay attention to their eyebrows. It they’re really pronounced and stuck in a permanent frown or scowl then they’re almost always either a bad guy or at least is meant to be unlikeable. If the eyebrows are normal then they’re probably a good guy, or at least meant to be likeable. It’s surprising how many animated series use this technique. One example within HGS is Cal. He never stops scowling. Even when he adopts a different expression his face always reverts back to its default scowl. There are several other examples of Totally Spies Eyebrows within this show but Cal is the most obvious.
I’ve legitimately become attached to your versions of the characters, so much so that watching this video made me want to go back and rewatch the abridged series again 😆
they have inspired my own ocs lol. my main character has a similar personality to abridged sage and she accidentally befriended an offset of the eldritch being resting under their town that keeps accidentally misunderstanding the towns people as a threat
I choose to believe pigtails has a Multiple Man type magic where she can clone herself to do multiple things at once then re-merge with the clones to absorb the knowledge. I have no reason not to
Yes. One of the two things I wanted to see most from this channel. Who needs Demon Realm Portals when you can just casually 90's serial killer teleport? Also, good choice using Bully OST. That's a great game. Also showing clips from Hoot. That was an awesome surprise. The guy is great with satire. Lastly, say what you want about the error at 2:27-2:33, but that's the dang cutest animation error so far. Like a excited puppy pug staring at the sky.
Can we just call the entire series an animation error and save us all a lot of time and headaches? But if we did, then we would be deprived of Dave's slow decent into madness... Keep it up!
Weird thought, but I've noticed that in most reviews, this show is evaluated as an action-adventure, though it seems like it could have been a zany comedy with a fantasy angle, which would explain the mostly episodic structure (I think they were either waffling on what type of show they wanted it to be, or else where going for something similar to a lot of modern shows-start out episodic then transition to something more serious in later episodes/seasons). With that in mind, perhaps it should be compared to other shows like Chowder, Flapjack, Spongebob, or more recent series like Star Vs The Forces of Evil, or Steven Universe (also famously flubbed in their latter halves).
you know what i actually like that idea. you know in that one episode of victorious where trina made a musical, and she got very mad that people thought it was a comedy, only to embrace it at the end? this reminds me of that.
You know; I remember people complaining about the errors of old shows but those old shows like TMNT? Little to none, modern shows? HOW ARE THERE SO MANY??? Keep in mind season 2 of TMNT took 3 months, being a time crunch, THIS SHOW???
3:30 Zinnia has a blue haired doppelganger lurking through the school in Rosemary's class... Not sure if it counts as an error but it is funny to me. Good thing she escaped before she got replaced by the creature. And yes, we do see the true Zinnia in the same episode in the blacksmithing class.
7:40 In addition, if you pause at the right time, you can clearly see that Amaryllis's coat is missing its buttons. They realized Snapdragon's buttons were missing and corrected it mid-shot, but not hers. Also, it's a little harder to notice in some scenes than others, but sometimes the Devil Lady's horns don't move properly with the rest of her head. Her horns are supposed to be placed on her temples, but when she moves her head, the horns don't move with her so one ends up right in the middle of her forehead while the other looks like it moved to the back of her head. ALSO, what's up with the large cabinet in the back of Rosemary's classroom? Why is it shoved into the corner at an angle like that? It looks like it could totally fit up against the wall next to the smaller shelf, but nope. It's just at an odd angle for some reason. EDIT: If you look back at Rosemary's classroom, you can see there is a girl with blue hair behind Rosemary. This is literally just the blonde-haired girl who was next to the pigtail-haired girl in the blacksmithing class. They just took a character model and changed her hair color, and I imagine they did this with other background characters and I just haven't noticed yet. 2:09 Some of the students who are closer to the wall and entrance are missing their shadows, so they look like they are floating. It's especially distracting because it's only done on SOME of the students, while others like the main 4 DO have shadows.
Shocking that RUclips animators can make great and talented 20 minute animations without or barely a budget, yet the biggest anime streaming studio gave a little resources to a team of people in which Rodriguez was the only person who new of animation and had to give to other studio’s 😐
Genuine question, if an animation error ends up being made is that the fault of the storyboards or the animators themselves? Cause if what Dave says is true and they hire 11 STORYBOARD ARTISTS per episode could that explain the janky animation?
Errors like these are more or less the fault of the storyboards. Those things are not meant to be rough, incomplete sketches, they're guides for the action, flow of movements, the scenery's orientation, everything. The animators are just outsourced labor for actually putting the boards to motion, it's not their job nor in they pay grade to try to 'correct' errors in the boards given to them, or to try to back-and-forth with the studio to verify their creative vision, ie to question if they meant for it. So those buttons constantly disappearing, or the layouts of the rooms not being be the same from one angle to another: faults in the boards more often than not. Those Korean studios will give you exactly what you gave them, it's what they sell themselves on. And yes, there's at least 11 different people in the storyboard credits over this show, which is far too many and also explains a lot regarding why so much of this show is visually inconsistent- with decorations never being the same; room layouts changing from angle to angle, scene to scene; character details being randomly omitted. Some people are more properly detailing the panels and paying attention to what they need to be giving the animators, while most of them aren't. Storyboards are one of the most important parts of the process- doing them right the first time cuts down on most of your redraw needs. As an example, look at screenshots of the One Punch Man storyboards and you'll immediately see how detailed they are.
I do animation as a hobby, I can tell you sometimes no matter how much time you spend watching at something when you animate you couldn't see error to save your life. You can watch it 80 times play and not see error. But as soon as you release it to public suddenly you can see error and it's obvious. But when you watch one part over and over again you catch most of them
@@gtf234 To add a tiny bit of elaboration on why the storyboarding here sucks, let's compare this to another 12-episode show, with fantastic animation: Puella Magi Madoka Magica. That show has several storyboard artists; however, only one of said artists did storyboarding for all 12 episodes. The others only worked on 1 to 4 episodes each. So there was a lot less spread of vision, thus a lot less likelihood for faulty animation or inconsistencies. And lo and behold, that show's gorgeous. Meanwhile, in High On Spice, the storyboarding credits vary between episodes, but there were 8 listed for this episode, and even more listed for the next one, so each one had lots of spread, and thus more likelihood of errors. And the result of that... is this. Why this is the case, we can only guess, but since most of the people who worked on this were clearly amateurs I think they just may have done that because they were rushing and thought many people working on storyboards would get it out faster, not realizing how that would affect the end product.
2:03 Especially because nail polish isn't just something you take off and then reapply each day, it usually lasts a while. Even with showers and washing your hands, some nail polish won't be affected, and other times, it'll *partly* chip off. 2:27 I genuinely love it. It lo.oks like the irises are just barely lo.oking in opposite directions, it's cute and derpy. 3:08 Little nit-picky, but there's also some random black specks floating around. 4:35 And the characters in the back have bo.oks again.
4:52 Was watching with my boyfriend and he pointed out how weird the lava looks, which made me have a thought. This is my own theory here, but I think this might be a layering issue. Like, the back part of whatever the fuck that thing is got layered over the lava animation, giving it this weird perspective illusion. But due to the lava being just a liiiiiitle bit over the thing, it looks like an error. Which it is, just not the type you'd expect. To prove this a little bit, look at every other shot with the lava flow. It's flowing straight down, never sideways or at an angle, except for right there. That alone tells me at least that that's not supposed to be that way...
from 4:00 it's super subtle but the teacher's left horn shifted ever so slightly when she turns her head. Going from forehead to her temple to her forehead again
I think it’s painfully obvious that when Parsley hugs the TALLER Rosemary, Rosemary SHRINKS to allow Parsley to swing her around and then GROW BIG AGAIN after the swing hug ends.
1:42 Also, Sage's right hand appears larger than her left hand, and the fingers of her right hand are much thicker. And, no. You can't claim perspective since Sage's left side is closer to the audience and her right hand should appear smaller than her left if anything. This happens a LOT in this series. I don't blame anyone for not keeping count because, if you tried, your head would explode. 2:10 Also, also, Sage's hat grows to literally over half her size in this frame, then in 2:19 it's back to normal. I know it changes sizes between frames, but it still isn't usually ENORMOUS out of nowhere.
I dunno know if Id call it an error, but when Sage and Thyme are talking in front of class, when Sage moves the paper in her hand it magically either folds and unfolds or changes size
Arguably the pigtail girl getting to the blacksmith class before Parsley makes hypothetical sense when you consider Parsley is a dwarf, and has physically shorter legs. Does put a funny picture of parsley running at full speed as other students just casually walk past her.
Hello Dave! Great video. I have a request for your next “any music fits with the intro for high guardian spice”. “Message in a bottle” - Police. Do you think that would work?
Or pigtail girl has a time-turner. 8:12 Or the poison also has a false-hydra effect. When someone expires due to the poison, you forget the person exists even with their now lifeless corpse in front of you.
What bothers me is that the scaling of the characters is completely inconcistant, I've seen it a lot in other shows but HGS does have it reaaalll bad. Edit: So that would make the counter explode into the triple zeros.
6:25 the paper folds and unfolds mid animation and her hand is in a different position, from bottom right to middle back to bottom right. Not sure if anyone else pointed it out.
2:54 the same shot where the girl has the missing belt, the belt in the center isn't connected to each other. Its gold circle, part of the belt, then white space, not connecting the gold circles together.

9:22 That guy was DEFINITELY supposed to be walking in front of everyone. He’s on the wrong layer. HOW DO YOU DO THAT??? They do that some point in one of the next episodes too. It just blows my mind.
i actually think its normally yellow, could be wrong those three things between the point and the main, but either way its either red but shouldn't or yellow but shouldnt.
The best thing about high guardian spice is that because it's a high fantasy magic setting about wizards, you could technically justify all of these with "a wizard did it" and nobody could prove you wrong.
3:19 when rosemary climbs into her desk she is suddenly on the left side of the chair despite walking in through the hallway to the right of the chair, when in reality if she had walked in through the path in between the desks, she should have gotten into the chair on its right side.
8:29 or C: Sage just didn't make antidotes for the last 3 and they just died as she shrugged and went "oh well" Amaryllis got one because she's got plot armour
Not sure if someone already said but I’m pretty sure other than the writing on the blackboard miraculously appearing, it also seems to change through shots, I could be wrong though.
I hope the people who worked on the animation and art have better experience in other companies, clearly there was not a lot of experience on their end in some aspects and bad storyboarding. I wish them better luck
The buttons are the most powerful characters in this show

Ugh, so fascinating but so painful too lmao.
the two girls you see at 4:59 vanish when parsley appears at 5:02
3:18 Rosemary is wearing a necktie instead of her usual bow.
6:25 the paper folds and unfolds mid animation and her hand is in a different position, from bottom right to middle back to bottom right. Not sure if anyone else pointed it out.
Dude, the goat guy's tail keeps disappearing and reappearing, lol.
I was wondering why this video didn't come out for a while. Seeing how many mistakes there are, I can guess why
and he didn't even cover all the buttons! so many buttons
@@otbaht that's true, we weren't even shown all the buttons
@@awakeache3627 of course some vanished or weren't there when they should have been so hard to show whats missing.
2:54 the same shot where the girl has the missing belt, the belt in the center isn't connected to each other. Its gold circle, part of the belt, then white space, not connecting the gold circles together.
Love your voice, love your content, thank you so much. Looks like 2023 is starting up pretty well.
Noob: "Why are you still attacking High Guardian Spice after all these years?"
Guardian HQ: "Why are you still defending High Guardian Spice after all these years?"
Also noob: *Angery*
6:36 Amaryllis and that Red Head be givin' each other _"The Look"_
8:02 you're awesome for using the sound that happens when items get clipped into walls
“Oh no, not another video about the errors 3 or more is too much!”
I can't believe you seriously memed that dope! 😂🤣
9:22 That guy was DEFINITELY supposed to be walking in front of everyone. He’s on the wrong layer. HOW DO YOU DO THAT???
They do that some point in one of the next episodes too. It just blows my mind.
In potions class the students drink from the antidote with the cork still in.
Is animation errors a food?
Yes actually, you should try eating them to make them go away.
no otherwise rosemary would have an infinite supply of food from the universe.
no otherwise we would all die of over-eating
Love the choice of background music for this episode. The soundtrack from Bully is such an incredible track
"Animation errors? Budget." - Raye, probably
6:28 Nooooooooo his earring was so cooool!! 😭
10:11, braid flicker
The long awaited sequel let's go!
PLOT TWIST: Pigtail girl has a magical amulet that she can use to rewind time and -re- take classes "simultaneously". Is this Hermione in disguise 😳
Happy New Year
3:12 Rosemary walks down the aisle on the left of the desk, then enters her chair from the right?
Yikes, There's a lot more errors than I thought!
At 4:07/4:08 if you look closely part of her tail is yellow for a split second. There's animation errors inside of animation errors!
i actually think its normally yellow, could be wrong those three things between the point and the main, but either way its either red but shouldn't or yellow but shouldnt.
The best thing about high guardian spice is that because it's a high fantasy magic setting about wizards, you could technically justify all of these with "a wizard did it" and nobody could prove you wrong.
4:50 oh look the other students have books again.
I mean at least someone is using the portals
Can we have a prayer for dave he risking his life
Also in 4:32
All the kids who didn't get a textbook just suddenly have one at their desk now, apparently.
4:34
And the students in the back have textbooks now.
When the world needed him most, he came back
if it's not my usual dose of spice xD
thanks everyone on discord for the effort!*^*
+ 6:28 this scene is hilarious XDDDDDDDDD
4:29 bro this guy is the only one character that i love in this show
you know you're fပငked up really hard if the guy don't even wanna download the episode with 1080p
Take a shot every time there's an animation error. By the end of the series, you'll be mega drunk. 😆
*episode* if you do series you'll die of alcohol poisoning. at the rate they are going it will easily break 500.
This video is more entertaining than the entire series
3:19 when rosemary climbs into her desk she is suddenly on the left side of the chair despite walking in through the hallway to the right of the chair, when in reality if she had walked in through the path in between the desks, she should have gotten into the chair on its right side.
4:30 back students have books now
This is some intense Bullying. Scholarship Edition
i love these vidoes
4:35. What's wrong with the blue-haired girl's eye? She's literally the edit of Derp-Rose from the abridge episode.
this show is animated like i run dnd
I ironically love this show, it's such a fun watch for all the wrong reasons
This is why if I ever create my own cartoon the characters will have fairly minimalist designs. It'll be less detail for the animators work on.
(6:32) Don't know why I laughed so hard at Superbook? Maybe because it's 2:00 in the morning and I'm tired.
5:09 the guys horn things disappear and its smooth
8:29 or C: Sage just didn't make antidotes for the last 3 and they just died as she shrugged and went "oh well"
Amaryllis got one because she's got plot armour
Not sure if someone already said but I’m pretty sure other than the writing on the blackboard miraculously appearing, it also seems to change through shots, I could be wrong though.
they can't figure out the buttons in universe either, it's why none of them have their jackets closed. :\
well when you have it closed if they buttons vanish they just open again so why bother closing them?
LET'S GOOOO
I hope the people who worked on the animation and art have better experience in other companies, clearly there was not a lot of experience on their end in some aspects and bad storyboarding. I wish them better luck
At this point, I think they're purposefully creating errors.
