Boy, what a Wonderful collection :) I'm also a huge Wonderboy fan myself. The Konami action adventure game The Maze of Galious for the MSX was one of my favorite games during the 80s. Some years later my brother handed me a SEGA brochure which had a screenshot of Wonderboy in MonsterWorld it immediately clicked with me because it reminded me of Galious. The funny thing is it was just a random screenshot and the name of game wasn't even mentioned anywhere. Eventually I was able to figure out that it was Wonderboy in MonsterWorld. I had just bought a Master System and Wonderboy III was one my first games and boy what an excellent choose it was. From that point on I was a huge fan of the series and bought 3 more Wonderboy games that same year :)
@@MrBen2177 Thanks Ben! Hey Johnny, found you in my journey to learn more about my childhood system the Sega MasterSystem II and it's been such a charming channel I ended up subscribing and watching content I didn't expect or seek out. Thanks! Perhaps the coolest thing was sharing your video old wonderboy video with my brother just last week!! He was blown away (as was I when I first learned) that other games besides the first existed. We are both Alberta boys who vacationed and lived in the lower mainland at times so we both mentioned that you feel familiar and that's so cool to kind of have a "neighbor" sort of guide to our classic system and memories :)
Having grown up in Alberta myself in the 80s and early 90s, you’ve articulated the emotions Johnny brings out me as well. Like you, listening to him speak about what series he enjoys and games/game mechanics he gravitates to, gives a “familiarity” to him. He brings me back to being a kid on a rainy Saturday afternoon playing Nintendo in the basement. I like to think that if you grew up during that time period, everyone had a friend like him. Brings a smile to my face listening to him, but also a bit of sadness from missing and longing for those days gone by.
I've been wondering for a long time now why Johnny doesnt have a million subscribers yet. Man, you deserve millions or even 500k subs more than most youtube video gamers here.
I just wanna say I love your channel man, been watching for a few years now. And also, I think it's awesome that you have so much things actually autographed by their creators. I hope the Happy community continues to grow.
Practically it doesn't matter what came first, because both games were programmed by Escape/Westone. The first Adventure Island was programmed by the original creators under the license of Hudson, that's why you won't see credits at the end. The continuation of the Adventure Island series were made by Hudson.
Geobardi “Adventure Island is an adaptation of the arcade game Wonder Boy, developed by Escape for Sega. Adventure Island was followed by a series of sequels with no connection to the Wonder Boy series.” Didn’t know that before!
Wonder boy trilogy on the master system is such a gem for me, I got the first game when I was 6. My grandmother got a master system and she played the absolute shit out of those games she was the only person i knew who beat all three games, she passed away this year at age 71, she loved the remake of dragons trap too and watched me stream it via twitch, good work Johnnie got me in the feels.
Wonderboy the dragons trap is still my favorite game of all time! Johnny I love you and everything you do on your channel! Much love to you and your family ❤️❤️❤️
Man that's awesome. I have a similar story of when I first played Wonder Boy. It was also at a friends house that had a Master System. I had a C64 at the time but would end up buying a Genesis and Master System Base converter to buy Wonder Boy games and Phantasy Star, of course. Awesome days! Thanks for showing your collection.
Dude Wonder Boy in Monsterland on Sega Master System was the first cartridge I owned. I had all three WB games on Master System. I really enjoyed this content and did realise there was so many WB games available on Switch. Sega Ages had WBIML on Nintendo E-Shop in the UK for £2. I’m buying a Nintendo Card tomorrow to buy the WB games you brought to my attention. Thanks again 🙏🏻
Thank you for this video. This brought me back to my introduction to the series. I got the TurboGrafx 16 (still my favorite console) for Christmas and a handful of games. Included in those games was Dragon's Curse. I still need to play this on OG hardware at least once a year. So, thank you for making this video and bringing me back to December 25, 1989.
I remember seeing the original running on a tv in a games shop back in the early 90's but never played any game in the series until the dragons trap remake and I loved it. Played the new monster boy early this year and it is a stunning game
I don't think it ever got a physical release but the Wonder Boy Sega Vintage Collection on the XBOX 360 was an absolute treasure for me.A lot of people think Wonder Boy Monster World 4 was never released in the West until the Sega Genesis Mini but it was actually on that collection!
I had played the original wonder boy many times in an arcade when i was a kid. When the Dragon's Trap renake got announced i played the whole series to hype myself.
