    It's worth mentioning for us newbies that the standing end creates a box on the top, and never leaves the top.

    It would have helped more if you told what length of rope is needed for a box of dimensions l x b x h and at what point to begin.

    Actually, this knot is only useful if you want to keep the package contained in a net but without any compression and/or use only a single piece of rope (which is never necessary, unless you won't have any more pieces of rope as long as that).
    The solution to keep package tightly compressed is to use multiple ropes tied at one end to form a loop and the autolocking trucker's hitch. (I previously thought of maybe using a trucker's hitch after each wrap around of the single long rope, even if that would work without being self-interfering caused by the wrap-arounds being pulled in also the perpendicular (right angle) directions.
