Technically, yes. I don't suggest it, though. When the 360 Keytar is in MIDI mode, the buttons don't work like normal. That's why you need 37 keys since the first octave would be the PS3 buttons. You can still technically play but you'd have to switch octaves with X and B when you want to control the game and play songs. It really sucks which is why I don't suggest it.
trying to do this with an official RB3 PS3 Keyboard plugged in via Midi to USB but can't get it to work for the life of me. The keyboard shows up on the RB3 main menu screen but I can't get past that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I looked into this and apparently it's not possible because the RB3 PS3 keyboard doesn't send MIDI message for half of the buttons when in MIDI mode. You will need a dongle for this, sadly. Sorry!
@@CarlMylo I do actually have a dongle for the keyboard but couldn't figure that out either. Do you happen to know what I'd need to do to get it working with the dongle?
I have a pro guitar and a USBtoMidi cable, is there a full guide on how to hook up? Plug in the guitar using MIDI out or MIDI in? I plugged via MIDI In and my guitar's LED is flashing red I changed the settings on Config and the game's Custom Config to 17 frets and it detects the MIDI, but it doesnt detect any input and im stuck at the start screen
okay scratch that it worked, my usb to midi cable was faulty lol but it worked! Just a note im using an x360 pro guitar plugged in using MIDI In Hope this helps for everyone!
It works almost perfectly. Online works and is decently active, you can use just about most instruments, and RB3DX is crazy good. Only problems are easily ignored graphics bugs and semi-rare practice mode crash for guitars and basses.
@@CarlMylo If you change it to overwrite graphics, forget the exact term, it will fix a lot of issues. I learned this when setting up Blitz Deluxe and by playing Skate 3.
@@backlogbuddies I know about Write Color Buffers, which seems to be the same thing Skate 3 needs. I was referring to the weird instrument/accessory/hair flying glitches which are still a problem.
I've been wrestling with this for 2 days now. My Launchkey mini is recognized, but doesn't detect any key pushes, like START, etc The RB3 Mad Kats keyboard has 25 keys, so why require 37?
Because the extra 12 keys are used for PS3 button presses. Pause at 0:47 to see what I mean. You may have luck by lowering the octave on the Launchkey Mini when not playing a song so you can navigate menus.
@@CarlMylo I've tried to octave down/up, but sadly, no. Thanks for explaining. I've purchased a wii RB3 keytar and dongle that I'll modify to work with PS3
:)
I get why you need the 37 keys, but say I have a controller plugged in too? Can I use a 25 key MIDI keyboard? I only have that one as far as USB goes.
0:51 rofl this is peak gamer move
This is so great! I bought a MIDI keyboard with the hope of finding a Pro Keys adapter years ago; this is much better!
I’ve got a 360 rb keyboard , any idea how to get it working ? Got the controller connected but in game the keys don’t even work
Does it work with the wii keytar?
i have a rock band keytar for xbox 360, it work with rpcs3?

@in16293 do the menu buttons/dpad buttons work or is it bound to the frets? Also does the tilt function still work if it's plugged in with midi?
@@JReaper4590 Yes they all worked as it should including the tilt function for overdrive

wait how well does rb3 emulate now? I thought it hanged in the middle of songs in rpc3, and that rb2 was the only viable one to emulate there

Does this work with the ps3 version?
Do MIDI pro drums work the same way?
Not through this menu but you can get them working with MidiDrumHero and VJoy. This is past my realm tho since I don’t have drums.
Why is this recommended i dont play keys or rock band
You do now. Go buy a keyboard and start playing Rock Band.
^ I second this guitar hero and rock band are amazing games you should pick up an instrument and go crazy lol
