Great job man started running about 6 months ago up to 130 miles a month for the last 2 months and felling great signed up for my first half and full marathon in March and April your channel has helped motivate me keep it up thanks for sharing
Thank so much Charlie. I am so happy it has resonated with people. I like watching elites and their training videos, but I like lifestyle vlogs so much more.
Congratulations on completing the Catalina 50k race. I have been following your journey and enjoy the videos you have been posting. I am getting ready for my first half marathon and some Spartan races. Working up to the Ultras for next year. Your commitment and dedication is inspiring. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you so much for the kind words Kelvin. I really appreciate it. Hearing from people being motivated or inspired by my videos is super motivating for me. Go luck on the Hal and the Spartans. I’ve only do one Spartan. It was the ultra beast in Tahoe.
Brings back lots of memories from when our kids were little...I had to run/bike/swim/lift before teaching because my wife worked the evening shift. It was always busy, bit now that they are both in college, I miss it. Great work on the 50K. Good luck on the rest of the training.
Great job on your first 50K Chris! I'm continuing to love this series you're putting out each week. I think I mentioned before that I am concurrently training for my first ultra as well. What you say about having kids and family life waiting for you after your runs/workouts being a sort of motivation and help in your training and recovery. It's very true in my case. I think after my long runs on Saturday morning having errands to run and things to get done around the house with kids is huge for me as I have plenty of walking to do to help shake out those legs more which I think aids in the recovery but man o man some Saturday nights my eyes are really heavy around 8-9pm.
Congrats on the 50K. I admire your effort maling this Channel, but glad I'm not the one doing it. So much work you put in to it, besides training. I have my first 3x60K coming this spring/summer and really listens to my body in the way. In these vidst it seems like your stressing the whole thing a bit, hope you make the right choices when it comes to kids and the love life, those are important.
Thanks Ivan. It’s definitely a balancing act but that’s why most of my training is at 4:30am...before they are awake. The hardest part is making sure I’m present in the moment later in the day when I’m with them.
Another solid week. Keep it up. Have you looked into the Hypervolt, or Theragun, for recovery? I have been using the Hypervolt for the last few weeks and it has made a big difference.
Congrats on a strong finish at the 50k! Thank you for mentioning the importance of our "ghost training " & working it around our family & work. It can be hard sometimes, but where there's a will there's a way... will you be offering the Metcon American flag design on a womens tank top anytime? Only 12 more weeks!
Thanks so much Wendy. I have been thinking about designing some tanks for women. I’m also thinking about putting some trail running designs together under the Rocks, Roots, & Ruts name. I was going to ask the viewers on an upcoming video which designs they like.
Congrats on the 50K and the views at Catalina look amazing!! I might need to add that to my list of races next year. I've got a GoPro question for you...I just opened my GoPro 7Hero Black for a race I'm running this weekend and was curious about your settings. Keep cranking out the great content!
Great videos and super inspiring! I am starting my training for my second ultra and I love seeing all your training and hard work! Just curious, what are you using to track your runs (what GPS watch, strava, training peaks, etc). Sorry if you already covered this, I am a little late to your channel and trying to catch up! Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you. I am current using the Apple Watch. I have had a Garmin and Suunto in the past but I’m currently hooked on the Apple. I like that I can do so much more with it and the Strava app works great on it. I was worried about the battery life but it hasn’t been an issue yet, but I know it’s not going to last the full 100 mile race.
Congrads on the 50k Chris, especially being your 1st!! Was it all dirt roads or was there some singletrack trails? How long did it rain at the start of the race? 6:30 is a long time to run especially when wet. Great job and keep up the training!
Thanks Chuck. It’s was mainly dirt roads and some really bad asphalt. It’ rained all night before the race and then for about 90 minutes in the beginning. It sprinkled on and off a few times during the day. The worst part was the mud was so bad it would pull your shoes off.
Thank you. The tripod is the mini one from GoPro: GoPro Tripod Mounts (GoPro Official Mount) www.amazon.com/dp/B0156MFBJG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4H8qCbEGMBFS2
Great video, I see allot of people use compression socks and sleeves, I’ve use them and they do seem to help, have you tired them to help with your Achilles calf pain?
great video series! I had some setbacks but I am going to start training for my first 100k in june and your videos are a great help and inspiration. I just discovered them 2 days ago. what kind of job do you have? I am doing an 40h per week internship and I have to work for another 15 hours to still get some money haha. but I am having a hard time to combine that with training. do you have any tips? thank you! :)
Thank you so much! Which 100k are you thinking of doing? I do work full time. I’m an electronic engineer and do product development. We also have a fitness business and now this. Since having kids it has certainly been harder for me to train. That’s why I am up and training at 4:30am during the week because it just won’t happen after work. Luckily I can go to bed by 9:30pm each night. I’m sure the hard work you are putting in now will pay off later.
wow thats a nice time to wake up. i signed up for the 100km zugspitz ultratrail. I have 21 weeks left to train for it. i wish i could wake up at 4,30 but i work till midnight and my body also needs to rest haha. you have inspired me to make a little documentary about my journey towards the race as well but i still need some other people around me who can help cause i cant do it on my own at the moment. good luck at your race! you should check out the zugspitz ultratrail maybe you want to run it as well ;)
Good job pal well done. The views were stunning. What was you average pace. I am flying to Iceland for my wife’s 40th can’t wait to get a small run out there.
I noticed your Hokas are in the description, are you still using them after the achilles issues? Sorry I’m watching in order I know this is a while ago.
I have been dropping but stopped focusing on it over the holidays. I am back on the a stricter plan now. I’m don’t about 12lbs so far. I’m finding it harder to burn off muscle size than I thought it would be, but it’s starting to happen.

Thank you! It’s gotten so much easier now that they are a little older, but they are growing up soooo fast!

Thanks so much Benjamin. I totally agree, but my eyes are usually trying to close around 7:30pm...haha. How is your training coming?
Great job on the 50K. Catalina Island looks beautiful. I love it when a run starts sloppy but then ends as beautiful as that one.
Thanks so much Don!
Great Chris!
Nice job on your first 50K, Chris!
Thank you
Congratulations on the 50 k.
Highly motívated!!

Thanks Mike! We need to hit the track again soon.
I stretch my calf with different angles too! Great job on the run. You made it look easy!
Thanks so much Barnhild.
Well done on the race, keep it going buddy!
Thank you!
Well done 👍 you didn’t even sound out of breath. I would have needed a oxygen mask 😂😂 the surroundings looked amazing. X
It’s beautiful over...and I was certainly tired.
Another solid week. Keep it up. Have you looked into the Hypervolt, or Theragun, for recovery? I have been using the Hypervolt for the last few weeks and it has made a big difference.
I have. I’ve been want one for a while. I might just have to pull the trigger.

Well done on the 50k dude! Great vid too. Bet you were glad you missed that downpour eh?! 😆
I was so glad I was sitting at the finish when that rain hit!

That’s good. Hopefully you are fully healed. My glasses are the Oakley Drop Points.
Great video, I see allot of people use compression socks and sleeves, I’ve use them and they do seem to help, have you tired them to help with your Achilles calf pain?
I have. I have owned a couple pairs forever I just haven’t been using them until recently. I do feel like they are helping.

Good catch
How is your weight loss going? I thought you wanted to lose some
Yea, I am curious on that as well. I can tell he has but unsure how much.
I have been dropping but stopped focusing on it over the holidays. I am back on the a stricter plan now. I’m don’t about 12lbs so far. I’m finding it harder to burn off muscle size than I thought it would be, but it’s starting to happen.
I’m going to start reporting on weight again in the next videos though the end of the race.
Brother I gotta know the sunglasses you’re sporting...you never list them.
Sorry it took so long. I’m falling behind on comment response. Oakley Drop Point.
