    Great video. Nice job with the cook kit bag. Consider taking a cue from backpackers and be ruthless about some of your other bags. For example: drop the hard case for the first aid kit and the batteries/car keys. Put them in a waterproof silnylon bag (not the heavier rubber ones), and in a ziplock bag for extra peace of mind. Your boat is tough enough to protect your stuff, you don't need an armored box too. Your camp chair doesn't need a bag either - it will be fine without a coat! A multi-tool can replace all the individual tools. I bet you can probably drop 15 lbs of weight, allowing you to either paddle further or arrive fresher at your destination each night.

      Dropping the heavy dry box is a great idea! Part of the appeal of kayak camping is I don’t have to be as frugal as if I were backpacking. Thanks for watching.

    Awesome and informative video Shane. Great points about packing loose stuff and water in the nooks and crannies of the boat. Also Great idea of packing the saw where its easily accessible. I have not done that in the past.

    This was an good video on how to pickup your kayak for kayak camping. Me & my family ( wife , 6 boys , daughter in law , & Granddaughter , & soon to be my grandson soon as he gets a lil more bigger ) love to kayak camping , & kayaking Alone. We are about to go on a I think it's a 30 mile kayaking camping trip on Memorial weekend. I am looking forward to this trip since we put up the kayak away for the winter time. My oldest son Brian just got a newborn black lab Puppy just before Christmas so I am looking forward to seeing how our new family member like kayaking. I think he will love it because the dog loves water for some reason. Every time we go to my in law house They have a heated indoors & out door pool and the dog love to swim in the pool all the time. I am trying to find a life jacket for the dog for this trip. But am having trouble finding a jacket in his size. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing it.

      Mack!! It’s been a while. I always enjoy your comments. Glad you are finally gonna get back on the river for a camping trip. I think it’s amazing how your whole family loves kayak camping. Such a great way to create memories. There’s no way my wife would do it lol. And taking a puppy with you!! I love it!! As always thanks for your support buddy! I always look forward to your comments

      @The River Paddlers yes it has been a while. Thanks you I really appreciate the Kind words. I know what you mean about the wife not doing any kayaking because my wife was the same way too. She would go to the river but would not put a toe in the water. Her coworker & family loves to kayak & got my wife to Finally try it after begging her so bad to try it out for a lil bit & she fell in love with kayaking. She came to me & ask me to help her pick out a kayak for her & when she found what she wanted I bought it for her. My boys was easy cuz they love playing in the river because I use to take them to the river all the time to play in the water. You take it easy buddy & tell your wife I said happy mothers day to her.

    Great video. Just curious...why carry so much water when you are on a river? Much simpler/lighter to filter water. In addition you can buy powdered Gatorade and add it to that water. A box of ten individual packets in the box is about the size of a deck of cards.

    • @Theriverpaddlers
      @Theriverpaddlers  Год назад +1

      Thanks Scott. It’s just a preference not to filter unless necessary. If I can fit the water why not is how I look at it. Also, some of the river aren’t great rivers to filter. I’ll be making another load out video for a long trip. There will be many differences in that video including filtering.

    Dang what's the float capacity of the dang kayak? All that would sink my kayak in the first rapids LOL

    • @Theriverpaddlers
      @Theriverpaddlers  Год назад +1

      Haha!! 350 is the capacity but this one can handle quite a bit more than that. Just throw a skirt on and you’ll make it through the rapids just fine 😀
      I’ve prob got 100 lbs of gear. Really not sure though. Now I wanna weight it all lol

    Thanks for sharing man I see some cool ideas like the folding table and the toilet. May I make a couple suggestions get some lanyards and carabiners for those loose items in the cockpit like your first aid in case of a rollover. Also latch yourself a knife in there where you can access in case you need to cut yourself or someone free. Finally get rid of those heavy single-use plastic and just carry extra water particularly in a flexible bladder-type bag. And carry yourself some Gatorade sticks to make Gatorade on the spot or better yet try element spelled lmnt. It doesn't have all the additives. Not trying to be critical I just packed the kitchen sink my first few times and realized some of these tricks through experience. I now carry a filter system and hardly any water since I am surrounded by it. Less weight equals more fun. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for watching. The cool thing about gear loadout is there is no right or wrong way necessarily. I personally prefer not to filter water unless necessary. I’ve used the blatters and just don’t like them. I’ll be on a long trip later in the summer and will filter for that. My motto kinda is if you can fit it there is no problem taking it. I missed mentioning in the video I carry a knife and keep it on my person. Good call out. And yes if I tumble (which I have) gear in the cockpit may run away. So far I’ve been lucky enough to catch it all. It often will stay when it’s behind the seat. Anyway I don’t claim my way to be best and I’ve already made modifications since the video. Thanks for the feedback. I plan on making a video for the long trip loadout. It will be around 14 day trip so that gear will look quite a bit different.

    good loadout video. I have the same table and I love it so much I take it backpacking too. Just nice to have a table. Have you ever considered a simple Kadadyn or Sawyer water filter? When I saw your water and Gatorade my first thought was, that is a lot of weight (and trash). I filter my water on demand, quick and easy and simple gatorade powder packets mixed in my bottle make gatorade.

      Ha. Thanks Ryan. Ya know I usually carry a sawyer but couldn’t locate it when I made the video. I prefer not filtering unless necessary. And if you can fit the water why not. I have a long trip planned this summer that will be entirely filtering. The load out will look completely different for that trip. I’ll prob make another video for a long trip load out but yea thanks for watching and the comment.

    your toilet:
    You said that you made it yourself but the bag looks like a magellen folding toilet. Can you show it?
    I prefer a USFS poop-tube myself.

      I got the idea from Trail Bum toilet but I don’t believe they make it anymore. Basically took a camp seat and put a hole in the center. Its lightweight and folds in a way it fits well in the kayak. I am planning on making a video of it.
