If the design is similar or based on the MC30c frigate there may likely be additional weapon mounts that are retractable within the ship's structure and torpedo banks either on the bow or ventral side. In my opinion of this design, this may be the canon take of Legend's New Class Modernisation Program where construction is limited to a select few designs purposed for the New Republic Defense Fleet. However, with the mass dematerialisation of the former Alliance fleet it is highly possible that this warship was constructed with a focus on defensive armament instead of an offensive armament (like the MC85 star cruiser). This may explain why there are no visible forward cannons on the bow of the warship, nor a cluster of cannons around the port and starboard sides. I also hope with crossed fingers that we may see a Canon Nebula-class star destroyer in future episodes.

It's in the dialogue from the shipyard manager that the hyper-drives from scrapped ISDs are being refurbished for New Republic warships. So yes, the ISDs are being recycled into a standard class of star-cruisers for the "Starfleet" of the New Republic.
@@Theology.101if you've been ever been a parent or carer you'll know that outside of caring for a kid you have no energy for anything else so pretty sure that's what Eck meant 😂
I like the design really much. A smaller, more streamlined Cruiser, whose role is as a mainstate warship of the New Republic. In comparision to Warhawk, that is a heavy warship, designed to destroy capital ships, this one is more of a fire support ship, smaller, faster and with starfighter capability.
It's like a new advanced Dreadnaught cruiser. A good work horse, not as resource and crew intensive, but also not as heavily armed. Maybe with the advances in weapon tech, like better turbolasers and with the mon cal tech, you get better shielding systems, so maybe these can go pound for pound up against a Dread, or maybe even a Victory
It would make sense to me that they'd be similar in size to an ISD. I got the impression that they were disassembling ISDs and using the enginenetc on new New Republic ships. Hence when Hera asked about the SSD engine saying " the new republic isnt building anything that big" (or something similar I only watched the episodes once)
The Ghost doesnt land in the new ship, it lands in Home one. The new ship can be seen in the background of that hangar scene. Or there are several ship of that class in the area.
This ship definitely feels like it took inspiration from Mon Cal and Quarren vessels, like the MC30 (as you said) and the Recusant-class, but it feels far more standardized for traditional military roles. It certainly feels like the New Republic's version of maybe the Victory-class Star Destroyer. I would say their answer to the Arquitens but it feels much larger than that. The other ship that it immediately reminded me of was the Providence, between its relative scaling, the external tower not being the bridge, and the bridge being on the front, as well as the side hangers.
Personally I really like how they fused together the design languages of basically every previous main faction: republic -> the recessed flanks similar to the Venator c.i.s. -> the faux bridge with the real one up front (a favourite feature of mine of the c.i.s.) empire -> the "trench" along the front portion rebel alliance -> the multiple hangars and the mon calamari inspired aesthetic overall a solid design, can't wait to see more
It’s just an MC30c…….. 🤔 I don’t get why people are calling it a new ship. They only shot it from close distances so it looks bigger than it was. At least from the scale I’ve seen them in Star Wars Armada which is a Disney canon game. Has their name on the box. And it’s almost as big as Home One and or MC80 Liberty class Star and battle cruisers. The game has many ships scaled differently to fit the table top, but I am pretty sure it’s just a plain MC30c 🤷♂️
Speaking of shipyards, I really wanna see Kuat during the height of the empire, with the massive KDY Ring around the planet, dreadnoughts in various stages of construction, hundreds of ISDs scattered around the outer edge docked to it and suddenly, the Eclipse SSD shoots into frame after completing its lightspeed trials, leaving only one test remaining. It’s miniature Death Star laser.
Thanks for the ad. I needed that for years. I have a whole world I have been drawing and makong since 6th grade. I'm 28 now. This world anvil gonna save me so much time.
I get the sense that these things are heavy cruisers made by using Imperial materials/technology to build Mon Calamari designs. They have good hangers for fighter support or other modular uses, but can probably still outgun the majority of active threats in the galaxy at this time. A fully-functional ISD probably outmatches it, but those are few and far between. Seems like a good design.
Although I doubt it, I really hope you see a space battle with fleets in Ahsoka between Thrawn with several Star Destroyers and Syndulla with these new New Republic battleships. I mean...it's all well and good that they want to bring Thrawn back, but even he can't do much without a fleet.
*_In that Thrawn trilogy from the '90's: isn't this the same model that they found in "that pocket of space"? 600 ships the Rebels/Leia found there, hidden by...um...I forget, but they were abandoned and parked there; so the Rebels now got 600 new full-functioning ships for their war._*
This has one of my favourite features in SW ships. Partially exposed hull. You see it in the Escort Frigate, Assault Frigate, the old canon MC30 or some of the CIS ships. Not completely uncovered (having some armour on the fragile bits is useful after all) but aside from the sleek armour, it leaves gaps that show the gribbly bits inside and gives it more character than a ship that is covered all around (like the MC75 for example.) I think this ship has a very good balance of the features even as the "shell" parts are covering/protecting everything that enemies can see when it is approaching them head on and the more vulnerable parts are accessible only if you manage to get behind or flank the ship.
The MC30c is canonically 380 meters in length making it 3.5 times shorter than Home One. It has 16 medium turbolasers and 32 medium laser cannons (in 16 twin turrets). I think that Eck visually found all 16 twin laser cannon turrets. I will guess that the turbolasers probably are in the middle of the ship’s height at the sides as broadside cannons since we see that a lot in Mon Calamari design.
MC30c also canonically has no hangars. This ship is visibly substantially longer than 380m. From the shot of one next to what looks to be a CR90, I'd say this new cruiser is somewhere between 600 and 900m long.
@@johnmarshall9604 that would make it a good replacement for the MC-75 and a good counter to the Victory Class. Honestly if they reveal the name of the ship, it would be nice if it was the “MC30A” or something like that. That make it so that there were different variants with different sizes since not all Mon Cala ships were made alike.
@@Dingusdoofus I tend to think of the MC number roughly representing power plant output, with a letter designation for standardised warship designs. Given the size, I'd expect this to be something like MC-60b. I'd expect it to be a medium cruiser, and a successor to a late war MC-60a, which might have been in service by Endor but unsuited for peacetime use.
I love this ship. It feels very fitting for a victorious but demilitarising New Republic; a light to medium cruiser/carrier built for patrols. It feels like a logical progression of a lot of rebellion design stuff. Taking what worked and discarding unnecessary things, along with downsizing everything. And using imperial parts would definitely make sense. You could probably get 2 of these cruisers for every Star Destroyer. I also like that it doesn't seem like it's ridiculously overpowered like some Legends ships, though I may be disproven on that later.
What I think is interesting is there’s a comment, in one of the episodes, about the ships using engines and parts from Imperial Tech. With the clear treachery allowing hyperspace drives to end up in the Eye of Scion, one wonders if a backdoor has been put into these new ships allowing them to be disabled remotely somehow.
It does give big MC30 vibes though with the only canonical appearance so far being in Victory's Price it could be possible it's a design based off the MC30 with the 30c being the frigate we know and this being a new enlarged variant of the 30
It could be new in the sense that it was created under the name of the new republic for the new republic at a shipyard. The other ships are from the alliance fleet and other factions during the war. But this ship could have been made in the new republic era
this ship definitely looks like a mc30 only the mc 30 was a light cruiser/torpedo frigate the one in Asoka appears to be on a much bigger scale its cool to see it in live action instead of being confined to star wars armada and concept art
I believe the ship itself is named the Vesper--it's mentioned in the holonet call between Hera and the Republic leadership council when going over how Elsbeth was liberated from captivity.
Also for what we see of the shipyard. Corellia has always had orbital yards that are dotted around the planet with different configurations, as opposed to the ring dockyard that surrounds planets like Kuat. Along with the factor that quite a bit of the manufacturing is also spread throughout the system. At least in legends content. All three inhabited planets wanting to stay more pristine and less industrialized than many manufacturing worlds/systems.
Curious to see them in action. And curious what the spec on these ships was. Are they make-work for Corellia, putting the Star Destroyer parts to use before someone can do something nefarious with them, border patrol? Before Thrawn shows up, I don't remember the New Republic having much in the way of threats requiring a capital ship to handle, forget a good dozen or more of them.
i would have just taken 2 imperial star destroyers, placed all the weapons and censors and comunications, shielding and energy production onto 1. removed the bottom hangar and placed 2 hangars on the sides where there are those cool cut outs, removed the tall bridge part (thus keeping the bridge smaller and less of a target, then shields could be even better distributed) and TRIPPLED the point defence weaponry (btw, the reactor and power plants go where the bottom 2 hangars were) then taken the now stripped down star destroyer and bridge, scrapped them into 2 half mile long carriers for star fighters, and boom. u have a patrol fleet with a capital ship that can deal with fighters AND capital ships, as well as 2 star ships that can transport troops to the ground as well as carry star fighters. pair the 2 carriers with 2 victory classes each and you have a formidable and well protected fleet for the price of say 6 isd, but tripple the capabilities!!! edit: so that is 2 carriers, 4 victory classes, and 1 unamed ship maybe ill call it the Alloy since its an amalgam of 2 ships idk
My prediction right now is that these are the functional story equivalents of the “heli-carriers” in “Winter Soldier”. They kind of tipped their hand with the repeated emphasis on former Imperials throughout the New Republic. “Long live the Empire!” might as well be “Hail Hydra!” When Thrawn returns, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of these ships suddenly turn on their comrades. Hell, it’s probably secretly referred to behind the scenes as the “Dreadnought” class, Thrawn’s secret fleet in waiting. It’s how I would end season 1 anyway.
Home one could also hold a Lambda Shuttle in those hangars and there is no way a 1300m Home One could fit a lambda there.. i think calculating with the Lambda heigh it was closer to 3500m
also i dont think that this is moncala design, purely beacuse it lacks the oval shapes. I dont think that Filoni would brake MonCalamari style and culture just for shit n giggles.
Kinda reminds me of the Nebulon B, especially with those exposed areas. It makes the ship look poorly defended and incomplete, much like the Nebulon B. I would love a scene of two of these showing up and disabling an ISD, something to show these ships as an effective weapon against the old Imperial assets still in use by the various warlords. Showing how effective these ships are with some convincing wins will make Thrawn all the more impressive when he uses some bold, unstoppable plan to defeat a small fleet of them. That's basic booking right there.
I feel like it's a priority class they've looked at. Like, we know the New Republic will continue to use Mon Calamari ships and they themselves fit into capital ship tier classification, and I think this is the NR attempt to get that middle ground Cruiser sized vessel for the fleet. Also seems to have a respectable hanger capacity too.
With those hangars holding approximately 2 squadrons of fighters I think this puts the ship in the Frigate range. Maybe a Heavy Frigate, but capable of acting as a picket using it's fighters to extend it's detection range and capabilitites.
Just looks like a re imagined Corona-Class Frigate . And the ship in the early years would be a casual carrier as most all fighters would be still stationed on planet bound rapid response fire bases
seems someone on the defense force, Possibly Leia managed to convince Mothma to at least create some light cruisers or frigates to help stave off large pirate ships, and any substantial imperial remnent attacks. Glad I wasn't the only one stoked to see some new ship designs. I think this was designed by the Mon Calla and Quarren. the shape of the MC 80 and the observation platform on the back similar to the Providence Cruiser. Though I will stan for the Venator till my last days
I seem to remember most rebel officers carrying them on hoth and endor, just not in a ship or on base. Same as the imperials in endors shield bunker, they're busy doing desk work
With the fin at the bottom back section. Looks more like an upgraded Dauntless Class. In the lore I think the dauntless was the second most used cruiser by rebels. If I remember the mc30c was an attack frigate used in packs of 3-4 because they had weak hulls. Maybe this is a hybrid of the 2. Dauntless shell with its reenforced hull redesigned to be like the mc30 with hangers. Taking the best of both ships into one.
I would put them somewhere between a heavy frigate and a light cruiser, possibly cruiser sized but frigate armed. They do seem to be heavily reliant on fighters rather than guns reflecting Rebel methodology. Do seem to have a relatively small crew complement to its size though, a MC-80 size ship would have had enough security personnel to put up a longer fight against two Jedi and you would have expected strongpoints throughout the ship. Other thing im surprised you didnt touch on was the external damage visible in the second episode, they say the Jedi scuttled the ship but there are big blastmarks on the outer hull like it was ambushed by a warship after the Jedi had taken the bridge and got the prisoner off.
Cool video. I have another theory about New Republic ships. It all started because it felt wrong to me that Hera just "stole" the Home 1 to Ackbar. But then i realised that the New Republic should have a new huge capial ship by the time Ahsoka is: the Dawn of Tranquility aka the Raddus of ep VIII (check the Wookiepedia page for that). So my idea is that Ackbar is now leading that new ship, leaving Hera the Home 1 and its fleet. We also see the Home 1 hangars having T-65 X wings, the New Republic should have alredy implemented T-70 X wings by now, so my theory is they're using those just on some new capital ships (like the Dawn of Tranquility) and not using those on older ships and their fleets. We also know that Outer Rim ouposts are still using T-65 (The Mandalorian 3) so they're probably using old stuff to control the outer rim? We know that the Resistance uses T-70 X wings, considered old of by the time of the sequels, having served the New Republic for more than 2 decades (wookiepedia page for that too). This is just my personal idea, i would love to discuss about that 😆
When I first saw it I thought it was an mc30 and was surprised no one was mentioning but thank you for the video made me realise that it might be inspired by it instead
In regards to ISDs being scrapped, the metal that makes up the ships would've been repurposed for other things that aren't military. I'm not an expert in metallurgy.

Any new ship is an interesting one to me, Eck.
I dont have much going on
same tbh
@@EckhartsLadderyou literally just had your third child
@@Theology.101if you've been ever been a parent or carer you'll know that outside of caring for a kid you have no energy for anything else so pretty sure that's what Eck meant 😂
I like the design really much. A smaller, more streamlined Cruiser, whose role is as a mainstate warship of the New Republic. In comparision to Warhawk, that is a heavy warship, designed to destroy capital ships, this one is more of a fire support ship, smaller, faster and with starfighter capability.
Mix of mini mc85, mc30 and gr75
That’s also not The Ghost
he said the ghost was in home one
This ship definitely feels like it took inspiration from Mon Cal and Quarren vessels, like the MC30 (as you said) and the Recusant-class, but it feels far more standardized for traditional military roles. It certainly feels like the New Republic's version of maybe the Victory-class Star Destroyer. I would say their answer to the Arquitens but it feels much larger than that.
The other ship that it immediately reminded me of was the Providence, between its relative scaling, the external tower not being the bridge, and the bridge being on the front, as well as the side hangers.
Personally I really like how they fused together the design languages of basically every previous main faction:
republic -> the recessed flanks similar to the Venator
c.i.s. -> the faux bridge with the real one up front (a favourite feature of mine of the c.i.s.)
empire -> the "trench" along the front portion
rebel alliance -> the multiple hangars and the mon calamari inspired aesthetic
overall a solid design, can't wait to see more
So we aren't going to mention the amazing structural weakness between the main hull and the engine just like the Nebulon B in a way
I'm fairly sure it is at least based off of the MC30 design, but is scaled up to be more of a mainline ship
That’s what I thought
@@randyferry8306 it looks WAY too similar to not at least be inspired by it. Though the size difference is a bit of a problem.
Well the MC-30 and this both trace their origins back to earlier designs ( I think Joe Johnston's) of Mon Cal ships way back for the original trilogy
@@captin3149 yes I know, thats why I'm so convinced its based off of it.
Video content aside, you still have one of the *BEST* outros...
Hey eckhart you should keep that ship in the intro for further videos as it looks smooth as hell aswell as music over it
Agreed
Looks like an MC 30, feels like a Majestic-class heavy cruiser.
Ahsoka's ship in the hangar wasn't the ghost, it was one of the Jedi/Republic ships they used in the clonewars
Okay but you clearly missed that The Ghost was in there, right about where The Falcon once sat.
This is not an Ecks problem, you need to go back.
Idk if you missed it but the ships entrance is basically the same as the opening of a new hope and the first look at a star sestroyer
Supposedly, the Empire built 25,000 star destroyers. I would use them as is. Rebranding is cheaper than rebuilding.
Although I doubt it, I really hope you see a space battle with fleets in Ahsoka between Thrawn with several Star Destroyers and Syndulla with these new New Republic battleships. I mean...it's all well and good that they want to bring Thrawn back, but even he can't do much without a fleet.
Tiinie, little bridge on top that thing is big!
5:12 Is that your washing machine going off? @EckhartsLadder
It almost looks like a separatist Droid battleship but with a full shell and not just half of one
my first thought, during the opening sequence of the first episode, was: "eckhart's going to be loving this". 😁
The intro crawl was actually really dope. I hope you use it a few more times
Maybe even everytime you talk about Ahsoka
I'm thinking the second bridge could be for the Air Wing?
I think its normally the opposite when star wars puts that much thought into it
5:12 your laundry is done, Mr. Eckharts
Based on the visuals I had assumed it was a rethought MC30 that seems to have gone from fast attack Frigate to heavy Destroyer.
5:11 Bro’s laundry cycle finished
What I think is interesting is there’s a comment, in one of the episodes, about the ships using engines and parts from Imperial Tech. With the clear treachery allowing hyperspace drives to end up in the Eye of Scion, one wonders if a backdoor has been put into these new ships allowing them to be disabled remotely somehow.
It does give big MC30 vibes though with the only canonical appearance so far being in Victory's Price it could be possible it's a design based off the MC30 with the 30c being the frigate we know and this being a new enlarged variant of the 30
Dude, World Anvil is amazing. I'd never have been able to write my campaign without it.
Your channel is so fun, very thankful to have found it! You rock.
It reminds me of an MC30 from empire at war
I too, agree with the assessment that these are being rebuilt from old Star Destroyers. That side trench is a very Star Destroyer design cue.
I love that they are sticking with Round/MC style ships for the New Republic.
I know that laundry machine sound😂 5:12-5:14... I thought my laundry was done for a second.
I'm sitting at work, well focused on something, and hear that sound in the background. I look up, only to be perplexed as to where the dryer was.
It really looks like a capital or cruiser type of the mc30 torpedo boat
Home one could also hold a Lambda Shuttle in those hangars and there is no way a 1300m Home One could fit a lambda there.. i think calculating with the Lambda heigh it was closer to 3500m
the spire on the back, could be a throwback to the Star Destroyer shield generator spheres
also i dont think that this is moncala design, purely beacuse it lacks the oval shapes. I dont think that Filoni would brake MonCalamari style and culture just for shit n giggles.
it looks more like nebulon-b style, and nebulon was made in Kuat Drive Yards.
I immediately clocked it as an MC30 mon calamari frigate which is my all time favorites rebellion/new republic star ship
Great eye for detail. I look forward to see more information about all the new ships in the streaming shows.
When I saw the nose of this ship enter the frame there in the beginning, my thoughts were like "Is this Star Trek Voyager or something?"
My favorite part was at 5:10 where your washer/dryer finished
It kinda looks like how Zahn described his Dreadnaughts, with the Clamshell design.
5:10 Don't forget to get your laundry!
5:13 woah my washing machine is done!!!
This needs to be added to thrawns revenge under the Starhawk and MC75 tab thingy. I love this
Really like the design, reminds me of Separatist ship run by droid in CLone Wars, always loved them
New info has came out about it in an early released book
It’s called the defender class cruiser and it’s a km long
With those hangars holding approximately 2 squadrons of fighters I think this puts the ship in the Frigate range.
Been praying for some good New Republic Fleet content for so long. This feels like a dream
It's gonna be sweet to see them in action against Thrawn.
When I first saw the ship I was hyped on the eckharts review for it
5:11 your washing is ready to be hung out
seems someone on the defense force, Possibly Leia managed to convince Mothma to at least create some light cruisers or frigates to help stave off large pirate ships, and any substantial imperial remnent attacks. Glad I wasn't the only one stoked to see some new ship designs. I think this was designed by the Mon Calla and Quarren. the shape of the MC 80 and the observation platform on the back similar to the Providence Cruiser.
Though I will stan for the Venator till my last days
That is a GR-75 blown up and mated to an MC80
It's like a mix of a Venator and a Mon Cala Rebel ship.
5:11 Someone's laundry is done.
Anyone ever wonder why, on a time of war, no officers on either side, wore pistols but yet now, in peace time, it's commonplace?
I would call them the MC-82b Support Cruiser.
A ship designed to support larger vessels like the MC-80 and StarHawk heavy Cruiser
I'm glad they're finally doing more to distinguish the New Republic from the Rebel Alliance.
