One of the most oddly elegant villains to ever exist. Can't help but love the Penguin, Batman wouldn't be the same without our favourite beak Villain, he's like the Doctor Octopus of Batman.

If Batman were a costumed crime fighter in Victorian England during the 19th Century, his main enemy would have been Oswald Cobblepot (AKA The Penquin), and not The Joker. The Penquin is a villain that would adapt well to England in the 1800s.
Lurvy1963 Funny, in the 60's Riddler was closer to being the main villain due to his popularity.

@@rolyngeorges7315 Gotham Penguin is from Gotham but his mom is from Hungary or former Y(J)ugoslavia. And the other Penguins family trees is from Newcastle England. It depends also on the universe of Penguin.

Amazing tribute to an amazing villain!
I feel I can really identify with Penguin, especially in the 'Penguin: Pain and Prejudice' comic book miniseries (Awesome miniseries, I highly recommend it for all fans of Mr. Cobblepot). I know what it's like to strive to be treated with respect and even just basic compassion, only to be mistreated just for being different (In his case for his physical appearance, in my case for the fact that I have learning disabilities) and long at times for revenge against those who did it to me. I see in Penguin a glimpse of the kind of cruel, lonely person I could have ended up becoming like if I didn't have my faith to help me learn to let go of my anger.
Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot was born in 1983, the fourth child of Stanley and Esther Cobblepot. The Cobblepots were a wealthy family that had lived in Gotham since it's very founding. A dynasty of industrialists and politicians. Oswald's life was one of privilege and hardship. While Esther was a kind loving woman who doted on her children, Stanley Cobblepot was a cruel man who constantly scrutinized everything his youngest son did and was disgusted with his close relationship with his mother, going so far as to believe Oswald was sexually attracted to Esther. Stanley even encouraged the three elder Cobblepot boys, Jason, Robert, and William, to abuse their little brother. These incidents included them publicly humiliating him, locking him in a closet, and even killing an animal that a nine-year-old Oswald had taken a liking to. Sometimes, Oswald would sit in his room crying and he would hear his parents arguing about him and sometimes he would listen to Stanley sadistically having sex with Esther. School was no different. The children would always find something to tease Oswald about and they would always find the cruelest ways to abuse him. Oswald would become a violent child, once pushing a girl who had teased him off the slide, causing her to break her leg. After that incident, Stanley had Oswald sent to an exclusive boarding school, where he was even further alienated from his family and his peers. Oswald would go on to graduate from the school and attended college were he earned a degree in business. Oswald returned to Gotham and set a series of events into place that resulted in the deaths of Stanley, Jason, Robert, and William while also amassing an emense criminal enterprise consisting of a city wide illegal gambling ring, unlicensed fighting tournaments, racketeering, extortion, weapons trafficking, and smuggling as well as the establishment of an enormous intelligence Network to keep him informed of the ongoings in the city. Sometime after this Oswald suffered an injury resulting in an infraction in his quadriceps muscle, forcing him to walk with a cane. The limp combined with Oswald's pointed nose, average height(5'6), skinny figure, and his habit of wearing fine clothing earn Oswald the moniker of Penguin. Oswald would also purchase a high-end nightclub, and after adding a few enclosed pools and an Arctic decor, renamed it the Iceberg Lounge using it as his base of operations. In public, Oswald is a compassionate and well respected businessman and socialite. But in truth, Oswald is a complete sadist who enjoys inflicting gross pain and suffering on others, even going so far as to build a hidden, state of the art torture chamber in his Mansion.
