@@_frangipani_ nobody is saying she was perfect but at least there was someone in the world willing to look out for him. I mean her raising him properly took time away from her having her own kids.
My twin brother, Jason, passed away in August of 2020. This song is about Jonn's mother but it always reminds me of my brother. First time I watched this movie, my brother just got home from class and happened to catch the ending of this movie. He told me that his GF broke up with him. We were both crying watching this scene. My brother and I were extreme Beatles fans too. My brother was killed in a car accident due to a lady on drugs driving away from the police. I was in the car with him and I should've died as well. I'm not trying to compare the deaths my brother to John's mother. But its extremely hard not to feel so connected to John. Just to have somebody close to you just be gone so suddenly... I'm still trying to comprehend it.
Cynthia should've been in this film, she played a big part in John's life during this time in his life. She was there for him when his mum died, she comforted him and really cushioned his blows. I hate that she's forgotten in the history of John Lennon. "We used to take the mickey out of her, but John always said he fancied her. He called her Miss Prim. He was certainly always attracted to her from the first time he saw her in the canteen."- Thelma pickles "I hate the word, but posh best describes John's first impressions of Cynthia. He was clearly attracted to her but hid that behind a regular barrage of bad jokes about her. She was the most important person to him for a long time but John did not want to look weak to his peers, to be soppy over a girl." -Pauline Sutcliffe "One day, not long after we had first met Cyn, I was at Mendips with John and he told me that Cyn was coming from town on the bus. I was twelve then and I was looking forward to seeing her again, wondering what arty, studenty clothes she would be wearing. Mendips is right on the main road, which meant that you could see the bus stop if you looked through the upstairs windows, which is why John ran up and down the stairs to his bedroom whenever he thought he heard a bus engine. You could hear whether or not the bus stopped to let passengers on or off. When the bus did indeed deposit Cynthia on the pavement, John shouted ‘Yes!’ and then flung himself downstairs to watch for her coming through the gate. Then he sauntered through the kitchen, as if he didn’t even know she was coming and he was bumping into her in his own garden by sheer good luck! I couldn’t believe his cool. I loved it! Cynthia was dressed in black from head to toe, just like John. A couple of art students, in love and looking like art students…in love. It was tangible." -Julia Baird (John's sister)
Chantelle Adlington i love this sm! Tho i think this is film is before he met cynthia. But thank u for these wonderful quotes. It is really bad and sad how he treated her after the divorce but cyn always said she never stopped loving him which was pretty sweet.
As far as remember they met after he'd lost mum. Cuz I think in an interview she said she and John became close because they'd lost one their parents. That similarity (sad similarity) brought understanding between them. I might be wrong. But I'd like to go with my memory. I would definitely agree that she should been in this story cuz like you said she was with him in his ups and downs. Not talking a word about her in the movie which mainly included John's life before the Beatles is sad.
Chantelle Adlington i guess they focused more on johns life with mimi and julia rather than his life with the beatles because i think cyn is a very vital and important part in johns life in the beatles history already rather than his history with his family and stuff
Niranjana Menon yeah they did get to know each other in art school which is the time julia died. All of the pre beatles and hamburg movies do include cyn tho so i guess the tone of this movie gravitates more on the family side of john

Great movie. Great actor, one detail though Aaron has blue eyes BUT John Lennon had brown eyes. Aaron should have worn brown contact lenses in the movie.

For some reason, I wasn't expecting this part to be the ending... when Mother played i broke down.
Same reaction here. I didn’t expect it at all. And suddenly the song had a whole new meaning.
