I have been wanting to learn to quilt for a long time. I finally decided to go for it and I found Melanie's tutorials and sat and watched all 5 segments of how to make your first quilt in one sitting. The next day I fired up the computer and went to Melanie's channel. I noticed something about a memorial page and assumed one of her parents had passed. When I realized it was HER, I was shocked. I watched Robert's documentary and cried through the whole thing. I made a promise to myself to continue to go to her tutorials which is what I did today and subsequently completed my first quilt top. I will continue to watch her videos as a tribute to this truly wonderful woman.
Thanks, Robert for keeping these up and I hope you and the kids are doing well.

So sad. I just found out tonight while watching this video that she does of cancer a little over a year ago. I am so sorry. She has been helping me via RUclips make a fidget quilt for my mom who has vascular dementia. Melanie is so easy to listen to and I have learned so much from her. Prayers of comfort for her sweet family!

Alisa Malone sorry for the loss of your mum. What a lovely gift she has left you though, I hope you get to do them. I would recommend going to a patchwork shop local to you to do a class. They usually do UFO classes (unfinished objects) you get to finish your quilt and get to meet some lovely new friends. I started a class over 12 years ago and still at the same one. Once you are finished your mum will be making you nice and warm each time you use it, she is still with you in your heart. Take care Jodie Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

It’s such a genuinely beautiful thing to finish your mother’s work. I’m working on my mothers unfinished knitted blanket and its been a joy to do it for her. She gave me permission before she died earlier this year. So her last gift to me was to bring me back to knitting and learn all over again. You’ll be experiencing the same and I wish you happiness with it.

This is my first quilt of an enormous size for my queen bed. I wanted it to hang over the sides., so the measurements are : 112 across the top and bottom and 120 length from top to bottom. I call my quilt a block quilt. the squares are 5x5 or (5x6) The squares were a gift from a quilt club in Florida (a group of my friends that wants me to have to do). I measured the top and it measured 95 inches across. I have been watching all of the you tube sessions of yours. They are the greatest I have ever experienced listening to and watching. Thanks for the tutorial sessions.

Thank you so much! Almost no one explains this process with details, and I’m so happy that it can be done with things that I can easily find (like the safety pins), since the few other tutorials I found were very intimidating and use materials not available in my country (like glue spray or iron-on batting). Now I’m really excited to start my first quilt since this is the step I was the most afraid of. Once again, thanks!

Hi Melanie! Thank you for these tutorials for beginners like me, I didn’t have a clue on the what materials to use for the batting so this really helps! I do have a question about the backing. When choosing a backing, should I pick a heavier weight cotton then the top? Thank you….waiting on your reply 💖💖💖
