    This just proves that creativity is not about the tools you have, but how you use it.
    Laurie Anderson is still the greatest avant-garde multimedia artist!
    She always was far ahead of our time.

      You can cite Roger Waters from the DSOTM recording interviews. He says that there.

    Laurie knew how to work it. Wish we had visionary, truly creative artists like her in today's 'music'....(sigh)

    I feel like she might be one of the most underrated sampled artists. I’ve personally had so much fun pulling samples from her work and making them into something new

    PIlotrcm - "How do they afford that kinda equipment" is the wrong question. Gear doesn't produce Laurie Anderson's output. Give her a $10 microphone and she'll put the RUclipsr with 10 x H3000's to shame.

  • @Aramanth
    @Aramanth 12 лет назад +14

    I think Laurie gets her money from concerts, record sales, art installations, and lectures. And I believe she has received art grants in the past as well.

  • @PhilAndersonOutside
    @PhilAndersonOutside 13 лет назад +5

    @PIlotrcm - For about $3k you could stuff a home studio filled with old gear from this era, no problem. A Korg M1 for example recently sold on Ebay for $300.
    In the 80s, Laurie's studio however was probably in excess of $1m. Her Synclavier alone was likely around $100k.

    • @YouzTube99
      @YouzTube99 6 лет назад

      @Phil Anderson:
      Korg offers M1 apps on a variety of platforms that include every option ever offered for the hardware and add options not available in any hardware configuration.
      And Arturia's Synclavier V VST was created in cooperation with Cameron Jones, one of the original programmers.

    In response to your question of how did Laurie Anderson get her dough for her gear....
    Dimples.

  • @PIlotrcm
    @PIlotrcm 13 лет назад +3

    Whats disturbing is not the fact that she has this kinda of equipment, it's that I've seen people on RUclips with more equipment that she has...how the hell they afford it is beyond me.

  • @Sjobeck7
    @Sjobeck7 12 лет назад +9

    She still had the Roland VP 330 Mk1 Vocoder Synth that she used so heavily on O Superman... Didn't see the Oberheim OBXa also from the same era however...
    I wonder, do you think she still has most of this gear?

    @rg2027x I think she breaks it down into smaller, simpler pieces, that in the end becomes a more complex unity. Music is not hard if you can pinpoint each part of it, individually.

    Is that a Korg M1 at around 0:16? The factory presets of the M1 are everywhere in The Ugly One with the Jewels.

    • @YouzTube99
      @YouzTube99 6 лет назад +1

      @sasarasa88:
      It is indeed! Very good eye. And thanks for bringing that album back onto my radar. Listening to it for the first time in many years.
      Interesting that you mention presets. Purists sneer at them but in the hands of an artist, any instrument can be put to good use.
