  • 50 years ago the Rolling Stones mid-1973 were the biggest band in the world, just one year on from magnificent Exile On Main Street album, about to release Goats Head Soup. Knocking on 30, Mick Jagger at his laconic best in this compelling interview with Whispering Bob Harris in Berlin, fully aware of his audience and sporting true rock-star status.

Whispering Bob always brings the best out of big names in his interviews, he’s got a great mannerism very easy going, same can be said of Jagger always respectful to his interviewers.

MJ is an original genius. Lennon, McCartney, Bowie, Bolan, Dylan and Townsend are rightly recognised as great songwriters or poets but MJ is often seen as merely a star performer. He's all that totally but also a truly great songwriter too. He's like Nijinsky or Valentino. Amazing man. Good to see BH too

How some people see them before him especially bolan and Townsend is a great big joke no Jagger no Bowie and Beatles still wearing suits

Ever the charming businessman is Mr Jagger. He was so direct then, very open to discuss his and Keith’s abilities to write solo albums. I couldn’t imagine many ‘frontmen’ being as mature, ever. Fifty years down the track, they are still going strong with new, young fans and totally different generations of young people. Great to see.

Even though he still makes sense, because he's a) highly intelligent b) highly controlling, this is the most 'off-duty', ie, a bit out of it, I've ever seen with Jagger. Maybe the one that set the agenda for the next 45 years!

Ahead of Bowie Lennon and others in genuis stakes and how he changed music and culture. People forget hiw rebellious and dangerous he wasseen in the 60s amd 70s and was the first in so many things. Made lennon look like alf garnet least McCartney was a bit of a rebel. Jagger if died in 79 would be seen as ghe king which is pathetic. Best rock n roll writer ever
