I feel that all good people are reflected in Walter and if you did not "get" Walter's character chances are you have some darkness inside of you.

    • @JustAGuyWithThoughts

I KNOW that I have darkness inside of me, we all do, but I still LOVE this move and see heavy parallels. I have actively been working toward digital nomadism for a couple of years now and I am almost ready to start. One of my biggest hurdles is working security for 13 years has given me a very..... justifiably jaded..... outlook on people. This movie kind of encapsulates the perspective change I hope that slowmad travel will allow me to have, from dealing with the worst of humanity on a daily basis, to seeing some of the beauty of humanity and much much more of this world we live in.

This movie + Fight club + Treasure Planet => Setting you up for quite a life journey. "If you want to live you have no choice but to touch and be touched by the world."
Now im on my warriors journey, signing up for Boxing, getting out and knowing people, singing cadences whenever I run, yelling when I feel like it, and dressing Polish in Poland. Lifes looking up ill tell you. And honestly im not as afraid anymore of talking to random people about random things. Walter mitty really gave me that final piece of the puzzle that took 3 years to blossom.

Honestly, I think I relate the most to Walter Mitty than I have with any other film character. His awkwardness, quirks, and fear of the unknown are such relatable qualities in a character. That's why I think this film had such a strong impact on so many, simply because Walter isn't a superhero, or suave ladies man. He's just a normal guy!

This movie inspired our family to take an epic road trip across America. We were feeling stuck and we weren’t sure if we could make it happen. After watching this movie one night, we decided to just go for it. No regrets. It was amazing. Walter Mitty will always hold a special place in my heart.

    This movie saved my life
I was in a dark, dark place and felt my life was completely stagnant, nowhere to go. No path forward
I one day watched this movie on a whim and it spoke to me on a spiritual level. Told me something I needed to know
Fast forward some years or about 2 months ago. I finally left my toxic household, got an apartment with a trusted friend and actually have my own life. It's not easy, it hasn't been since day 1. But I truly believe I wouldn't have gotten here if Walter Mitty didn't tell me what I needed to that dark, dark winter evening:
"If you want your life, you need to take it for yourself. Take it and Step Out."
This movie saved me. I can never repay such a thing. But living independent as I am, taking it one day at a time. That's how I will repay that debt. No more being a scared little kid. Nothing but moving forward from now on

I recently rewatched this for the first time since I saw it when it released and I found a real beauty in it, both spiritual and visual, that I didnt have the first time I watched it. It really pushed me to get out of the house more and pursue the things that I've been wanting to do for the longest time. Started going back to the gym, taking trips downtown or out of town to shoot pictures, I decided to get started learning to shoot with 35mm film, and I'm so excited about all of it. I think from now on this movie will be my go-to whenever I'm down or depressed and need a push in the right direction.

Fun fact: the term ‘a Walter Mitty’ is given to people, in the military (who exaggerated their career) or people who lie about being in the military.
My father, a ex British military service man. Was very worried about me when I told him ‘my favourite film is Walter Mitty’, not knowing of the films existence. Lol

I am a Big fan of this movie. Just to add a comment. The colors blue and red are present the whole movie, because It is a representación of The Matrix movie. Blue colors are at first scenes at the office, train, buildings, etc and red colors are present when Walter is moving to the freedom looking for the film and himself.

    • @Olderaccount17
      @Olderaccount17 Год назад +7

Upon first reading this comment, I thought it was just another instance of someone looking waaaay too much into something. Maybe Stiller just wanted to move from cold colors to vibrant colors and they just happened to be the same two colors they use for the pills in The Matrix??
Then I was reminded that, when he lands in Greenland, he asks for a rental car and they only have a red one and a blue one, and he takes the red one, and I was like "Daaaang!"

This movie has that inspiring essence dialed up all the way to 11
It genuinely makes you want to go out and see the world. I've never seen a movie that holds the marvelous depiction of natural beauty of places like Iceland, Greenland and etc. Those countries are Absolutely gorgeous. The first time I ever sat my foot at Reykjavik it was completely a unique experience. There weren't many people in the town I had been to, was just a bar and a few houses (less than 20) around and a port. The food, the weather, the people, the experience. Walter Mitty captures it all.
The critics were too dumb expecting something completely different like a comedy skit from this movie, but Ben Stiller knocked it Outta the park in both characterisation and cinematography+direction.

I’d say its a therapy session for introverts who live life in a thought loop of what could’ve been.

I love this film. I think the most powerful thing for me in this film is how he lives his life in his mind that isn’t reality. I feel that this represents our culture and collective identity. We live in our projections about past, future, and personal attachments that are to do with our conditioning. I find that often we are trapped in our minds until we are confronted with change and are forced take a chance. Or we take a chance ourselves.

I loved the original story as a kid, (59 now) and still have the old readers digest book that I found it in. "Coal to Newcastle?" I also remember watching the Danny Kaye? movie with my grandfather, who I grew up with. It's a true timeless intergenerational story, and I love what Ben made out of it. I never tire of watching the scene of Sean beckoning in the photo, and the montage that follows. Well done, those men. Thank you for the clip. All the best.

I've watched this movie an absurd number of times, to the point where I can identify all of the foibles and contradictions within it. For example, if Sean O'Connell took photos of the Chilean deckhands, where did he develop his film? Did he suffer a gun wound to his abdomen on the boat? How did he get the developed film into the mail for Walter? When Walter or his colleague opened the film canister, was it obvious that image 25 had been removed, separating the negative roll into two pieces? Also, man-threatening sharks do not swim within 1000 miles of where Walter enters the Atlantic. And the train Walter misses at the beginning, while daydreaming? Which makes him late for work? That train runs every five minutes. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely LOVE this movie. I love the way, when Walter goes out into the world, the world is waiting to welcome him. I love the way the men he meets seek connection with him, as Facebook Friends or other ways of reaching him to stay in touch. And the way Todd empathizes with him in the airport. And don't get me started on the cinematography or soundtrack. I've been to Iceland three times since I first saw this movie, and I'd be happy to watch it again today.

I like this movie too because it has a good story and characters, but it also aims higher and tries to inspire people. Sometimes, it is a little too obvious that it is trying to inspire you, but it still works. There is another movie that also tries to inspire people called "Hector and the Search for Happiness." It is not as good, but it also aims higher than most movies.

It was a great adaptation of Thurber’s Mitty, but there’s something about the Danny Kaye version that I like more. Cinematically, the Stiller version is better, even the story. But the original version, at least to me, really love and it’s so stinking old. Having said all that though, I love how in Stiller’s version he himself is a negative asset manager. It’s a great flick and proves it’s point of living your life to its fullest, without fear.

its quite amuzing and i think the director did a great job, but the story and acting is a bit cheesy most of the time. It has this cheap feelgood vibes to it. I think this is due to the soundtrackt, hollywood sitcom tipe of diologue and the "holsome" moralistic undertone in the humor and overal plot. But thanks for your take, i almost forgot about this movie.
